Out of town family visit. We really enjoyed ourselves!
We had a rough start this time. We have been at this restaurant MANY times and always been very good. Tonight, I had requested a tale near the window since we were celebrating a special occasion and instead we were seated the farthest from the window possible and next to the kitchen. That stunk! Seriously!
Next, our waiter was totally overwhelmed. He was working a ton of tables and we actually had to ask him for a word and told him we were really struggling to have a good time. I don't think he actually took our order for 45 min and only after we said we needed to order. He said they were training new people and he was working a lot of tables. No excuse even though understandable. Poor management - training shouldn't be happening on a very busy night. It was so loud and our waiter was hard to flag down on the many times we felt we had to. Refill water, more drinks, new plates, no spoons to serve with when they delivered entrees. We actually had to get up to get serving spoons ourselves.
This all really KILLED a special night so if you are trying to celebrate and impress someone, go elsewhere - why run the risk of a bad experience.
Our waiter got better after we had to sort of call him out on sub par service but that should have never EVER been necessary.
La Costanera serves good quality Peruvian food. The Lomo Saltado was hyper tender and tasty. The Grilled Octopus was out of this world. Tender, well seasoned, crisp outside charbroiled. We were a bit disappointed with the Ceviche mixto: Good flavors but very big pieces of seafood. Usually smaller pieces capture more of the marinade flavors. The Pisco sour were spot on. The decor, with the ocean outside (better for lunch or early dinner to enjoy the view) was very pleasant. Tables are not too close to each other and the high ceiling makes for a nice atmosphere. The decor is "cottage like". Not upscale but nice and clean. Service was good, a bit hectic (some dishes arriving late, others super fast) but very pleasant and friendly. The experience is a bit pricey, so I would put a medium value, even though this place has a lot to offer. Overall very happy with my first experience, will return and recommend.
The view is great from the restaurant, but the quality of the food there is declining. That is disappointing.
Extraodinary spot with a well known view through large glass windows, an excellent service and a sleek Peruvian food always fresh and inventive.
A must go from SF to SV... beautiful place and a food the world is discovering and want more of... each bite ;)
We love that place!
Our waitress was awesome , didn’t catch her name she was pregnant and very attentive and made sure my fiancé and I were good . The food and drinks were delicious
Perfect. Everything was wonderful.
Awesome food. Very tasty. Every person in my party of six was very happy with their meal. We had great sunset view and the service was fantastic! Our waiter Alex was super friendly and had great recommendations. I will definitely be back.
The views were amazing. We saw sunset during our dinner. The waitress was good and efficient. Food came extremely fast— almost too fast. The ceviche was good, but the spareribs were just so so. Entrees were all fine but not spectacular. For a special occasion, because of the location and the views, it is worth the drive.
Excellent food and a great view
Food was excellent but the experience was very poor. The night before my visit to La Costanera,
I received a phone call from the restaurant asking if it was alright to place me in the downstairs dining room due to a private event in the main (upper) dining room. I agreed but wasn't told it would be a wedding reception with a DJ playing music FULL BLAST, with everyone in attendance dancing and singing. As the main room acts as the balcony of the lower room, there really wasn't a way to escape the noise and my family gave upt talking to each other after several failed attempts at conversation as a result the high volume upstairs. In the future, this restaurant should only rent out the entire place and not try to make a quick buck off of bringing unwitting diners into the chaos of a "private event".
Food was great! Service was great. Food is a bit over priced and the chairs Are hard plastic and uncomfortable. For more upscale food the ambiance could be tweaked by comfortable chairs.
Excellent and creative dishes. Large portions.
Amazing food & very considerate staff. We were a group of vegetarians and the chef substituted most of the meat recipes with mushroom & vegetables for us. Very good flavors & breath taking sunset view.
Overpriced, blaring hot sun in eyes for the entire time we dined - they desperately need some sun shades on the floor to ceiling windows. Disorganized very young staff , long wait for drinks at bar as only one bartender for bar and entire restaurant. Too many people doing nothing... servers and front people, all extremely young and inexperienced. Fake friendly server who painfully tries to upsell, and it’s obnoxious. Very overpriced bad cocktails with very little alcohol, long waits for everything. Reservation made far in advance on Opentable with birthday noted and window requested, but ignored. After waiting very long for food, wrong order brought out. Long wait for correct one while my husband , whose birthday it was, had to either eat without me or let his meal get cold. No offer to comp anything for the inconvenience. Not even a glass of wine. Asked for bread and was charged $6 for 3 pieces.
The food is good but I don’t know how they can stay in business with such bad service and such an uncomfortable setting.
Great ocean views from the top dining room. Food outstanding! Service was great except the server was a little spacey. Highly recommend.
The food is very good and unique, ethnic flavor is a big feature. The service staff is very friendly and genuinely helpful--our waiter was particularly good. The restaurant does have a fairly high noise level and might consider a little baffling/muting as there seems to be nothing but hard surfaces all over. At times holding a normal conversation was an effort.
Fantastic food, service, drinks, and an amazing ocean view as well. Would highly recommend
Welcoming entrance and friendly from the waiter to well described recommendations.
This is my favorite place. Authentic cuisine and great atmoshere.
Special birthday dinner with amazing ocean views and delicious food! Pisco sours were fabulous!
Service was wonderful. Highly recommended
Always a great experience
Views, food, and service great, but there were some hiccups due to a wedding party that reserved the bar/lounge area that evening.
Very loud when we were there because a wedding was going on so it was hard to hear. The food was ok, but nothing spectacular. Go for the view and expect to pay a premium for it.
As on previous visits, the food was very well conceived and prepared. Service was slow but considerate. What was unsupportable was that an exceptionally loud wedding party was being hosted on the lower level which was so persistently and overwhelmingly loud that even a shouted conversation was impossible. It is unforgivable that the restaurant would even attempt to function in this dual mode, nevermind without disclosing the conflict in advance to prospective patrons. There was no attempt to mitigate the matter and no offer of compensation. Our own modest festive occasion was ruined and I’m furious that the operation simply shrugged their shoulders with no effort to compensate in ANY way. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone again and have no intention of returning.
The food was good. We loved about 1/2 the items we ordered, and liked the rest. My husband is Peruvian, so he has very high standards, and he liked it a bit less than I did. The portions are VERY small. The presentation was amazing though. The service was pretty good- took about 25 minutes to get the bill and pay, but the rest of the dinner was pretty quick. There happened to be a wedding that night so it was extremely loud, and their DJ keep shushing us, which was annoying and somewhat ruined the atmosphere for me. I rated the value at 3 stars because of the amount of food we got, but mostly not being able to easily enjoy a discussion because of the noise level. I would recommend it because the appetizers and dessert were fantastic, and its a beautiful place- the interior is well decorated and the view is amazing!
Wonderful! Food, Service, and Ambiance. Our server and busser were amazing!
The best place to eat and watch sunset
The ceviche was so fresh and yummy . Everything was good
La Parada in Walnut Creek is one of my favorite restaurants and when I realized that Chef Altamirano has a seafront restaurant 10 minutes from my parents' house that I never even realized existed, I was more than thrilled. The meal was spectacular, the view was seriously amazing. The only warning is that this is not a quick meal. It was a 2.5 hour ordeal - from entering to paying bill. The appetizers came really fast and then we waited about 1 hour before the actual meal arrived. After 45 minutes, I had to ask an employee if they had forgotten about us but luckily with the view, the wait really did not seem so unbearable. (Anywhere else I prob would have gone nuts.)
Location is the best, especially for watching the sunset! Atmosphere is fun. We really enjoyed the food and beer but they were expensive.
Great food. Service perfect.
Unreal view, delicious food, wonderful service...dont drive by, its the best stop we made our while trip.
We have gone to La Costanera many times and always enjoy the food. In the past, the service has been fine, but this last time the service was abysmal. Not clear whether this is a one-off event or they are desperately short of good wait staff.
Amazing place. Nothing beats the sunset view! The food was very good as well as drinks. Dessert was amazing. The sauces are splendid. Worth every penny.
We had a fabulous meal, sharing different dishes. Our service was excellent and there is a wonderful lively ambiance.
Great service and ambiance. Food is good but a bit pricey - specially if you have a couple of the Pisco sours which are good but very weak. Although it is a bit pricey I will come back for all the positives. Do recommend.
Birthday dinner. Very nice! 4 of us shared multiple small dishes which more than filled us up!
We had 12 for a birthday dinner and it was terrific. The service was excellent and every single guest raved about the food.
Loved almost everything about it, however, it was very loud.
