I don’t write too many reviews, but just want to give it a go this time. I came out to La Constanera for a New Year’s Eve dinner and first thing I noticed was parking there is pretty hard to come by, I don’t know is it because it was New Year’s Eve but the parking lot was full and there was a line of cars waiting for parking. When I walked inside, I was greeted and taken to my table without a wait thumbs up for that! The plates and utensils I noticed were clean (just wanted to make a note of that) our server was awesome, the food was good. One of the best ceviches I’ve had in my life and I eat a lot of ceviche.
There was only one small thing that bothered me when I was paying the bill, I got the bill and I noticed that they overcharged me for the taxes. $188 bill and they charged me $20.30 for taxes which is right around 11%. Taxes in Montara CA is 8.75%. Maybe it can be an additional health code tax or something but the receipt did not specify.
Overall I would say La Constanera is a good restaurant to try if you love small plates (appetizers) very tasty.
Great location! The food was wonderful! Ordered a few appetizers, some drinks, entrees and dessert. The meal as a whole did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable when we asked for suggestions.
Unfortunately dinner was too late so we missed the sunset view. Very open space, not too loud or quiet, great for any kind of get together, plenty of parking. We ate on the upper level but checked out the downstairs which would be a great space for a private event.
Our meal at La Costanera was very good. The two of us shared everything. As appetizers, we chose the Tuna Tartare (great presentation, fresh tuna flavor, overall wonderful), the Causas (unusual and delicious potato presentation), and the Pulpo de Parilla (great flavor from the grill, served with Peruvian purple potatoes and another sauce). For entrees we shared the Churrasco and the seasonal gnocchi with lobster. The steak was a perfectly cooked medium rare, with a great sear. The gnocchi were tender, with a delicious sauce and a wonderful, fresh lobster flavor. For dessert, we chose the Coconut Panna Cotta and the Churros. The Panna Cotta was flavorful, but not as smooth texture-wise as I would hope. The Churros also had a good flavor, but were a little greasy and lacked the nice, crisp exterior. The desserts were the only (slight) misstep of the evening, and why the food gets 4 instead of 5 stars.
The service was warm and inviting, and we were made to feel welcome and at home. Also, it's worth mentioning that the dishes generally came with a side of fresh plantain or potato chips, which added to the meal.
I definitely recommend La Costanera for special occasions or any evening you'd like something a little different.
While the ambiance is nothing to get excited about, the food is absolutely amazing! The flavors and the sauces are out of this world. Who knew that pisco and inca cola could be used in such creative ways? Fabulous taste bud titillation! And while I rated the noise level as quiet, that is only because there were very few people in the restaurant the night we were there. When the restaurant has a lot more guests, I suspect the acoustics might be questionable. But looking past all of that, the food is worth it!!
Everything was great! We got there at 5pm and the crowds gathered quickly and the restaurant was packed. Totally understandable: the food was outstanding we had empanadas and lomo saltado, a great glass of wine and of course a Pisces sour to start our meal.
The noise level is high, but the lounge had a special occasion and they added to the overpowering din of the place.
Still we highly recommend the place if you like authentic Peruvian food.
All the food tasted delicious but my mom who ate the swordfish and suspiro limeño, became sick in the middle of the night... not much else to say but she was better afterwards. Also, put a note to be sat against the balcony, nearest the window, and that we were celebrating a birthday, yet they did not save us a table nearest the window and when I asked to be sat at an open table in that area they said it was reserved for another party... so I wonder how they were able to secure a table there.
Our server, Alex, was wonderful. He explained the menu to great detail and was so attentive. We went in the evening, so we didn’t see the sunset, but I could imagine it would look fantastic. Overall a wonderful dining experience. Would highly recommend going there.
great food. good views. parking is a bit of a challenge - bring the suv. when there's a crowd, it's loud and tough (table spacing) to get from the table to the bathroom. lots of people go there for great food and a wonderful sunset. but I found the later you wait after sunset, the better the ambiance. regardless, we will return.
The seafood was amazing! The service unfortunately left a bit to be desired. It was obvious that our server was overwhelmed by the crowd and had difficulty servicing her assigned tables. We waited a long time for water and had to flag someone down to get it. We expected better service from a place like this. I will emphasize that the food was amazing.
Everything was superb including food and service. The price wasn't too bad considering the food presentation and quality is excellent. The only less than positive was we went downstairs to have dessert and a dessert drink and we found it a little cold. It would help to have a fireplace or one of those "fake" fireplaces.
The food is fresh and very well presented. I would say it's good to very good, but too spicy for my taste, but that's me. While the views are outstanding, the early nights of the season are taking that away and you are left with a noisy, big room full of chatter, almost like a cafeteria due to poor lighting and cheap chairs. I would definitely give it another try between May and July when the views are there for the whole meal. The Quinoa flan was absolutely delicious.
Our waitress was friendly, but none of the 3 ladies working at the reception desk said goodbye to us or the people ahead of us as we left. They were busy talking together. Little detail, but this is not a fast food restaurant.
The food was vibrant, fun and the flavors were exceptional. Great for getting small plates and sharing the unusual flavors. The brandy sour drink was excellent. Great vegetarian options and lots for the adventurous eaters as well. Excellent service. We went two nights in a row and enjoyed the left overs on day three. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Great cocktail selections and interesting. I had the Pisco Sour and my wife had the Green Lantern. Both were delicious. For appetizers we had the ceviche trio and all were fantastic with just the right amount of citrus and heat. The Lomo Saltado and Seafood Paella were tasty and perfectly cooked. Our server was knowledgeable about Peruvian food and made great suggestions. We finished with alfajores that were the best I've ever had. Parking was the only challenge but worth the effort.
THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD.
WE HAD BEEN A NUMBER OF TIMES FOR DINNER, PRIOR TO SATURDAY'S DINNER. THIS TIME SERVICE WAS VERY LACKING AND FOR A SATURDAY NIGHT, GROSSLY UNDERSTAFFED. WE HAD TO REQUEST WATER GLASSES FOR 2 OF OUR GUESTS, AND THEN HAD TO REQUEST WATER DURING THE MEAL. AND I HAD TO KEEP FLAGGING DOWN OUR WAITER.
VERY DISAPPOINTED AND I DON'T CARE TO RETURN ANY TIME SOON CONSIDERING THE COST OF THE MEAL.

I booked the table 1x month ahead, asking for a window seat. but didn't get it eventually. after my neighbor table complained to the waitress same thing, then I know that the reservation desk seems never read the notes. I bet everyone is asking for window seat only, that's why they don't read those notes.
One of the best all-around dining experiences we’ve had. Possibly no finer a combination of ocean view (stunning sunset)
and quality cuisine. Peruvian (seafood, especially) specialties were outstanding.
What really stood out: the ahi tuna tartare, the purple Peruvian mashed potato’s, the perfectly cooked salmon entree with Tomato-onion cooked in vinegar sauce, the spinach mushroom empanada and the traditional piscina sours. The sunset was so spectacular that it seemed like half the staff took a moment to step out on the terrace a snap a few photos. Tremendous evening out.
Hostesses were worthless boneheads. Waitress was rude, and needs to be educated on how to serve people, unless the attitude is the issue, in which case manager needs to get rid of her and the worthless hostess boneheads. They didn’t honor my special request when I made a reservation a week in advance for my anniversary. I made a simple request for a table by the windows but instead, they put us in the middle at a shaky table, despite the fact that there was still one table available by the windows. We did not even bother staying for food, because we were disgusted with how dirty and smelly the place was, and such poor service. Place was dirty and poorly managed. For such a unique location, this place was a complete disappointment.
