La Chaire Restaurant at Chateau La Chaire
Very quiet, we were the only guests for afternoon tea but it was a Monday afternoon.
I was invited to bring my elderly dogs in to sit with us, which helped us relax - apart from their snoring!
Small point but it would be nice to get a voice at the end of the phone when calling to book a table - it is either 'book your table on-line or leave a message and we will call back'. My note on the reservation requested that we didn't have cucumber sandwiches please (there were none) but it had not been picked up by reception.
I do not want these minor niggles to take away in any way the attentive service of our waitress and the sandwiches and lemon posset in particular were delicious. Chateau La Chaire is an absolute haven from Coronavirus, Donald Trump and storms with relaxing interior design to match the peace of the place.
Can recommend the set menu for Sunday lunch. Top quality food nicely presented in nice surroundings. Excellent value for money
Exceptional meal; great company and quiet xx The staff are loyal and they obviously enjoy working together and at the hotel/restuarant
Excellent lunch and all three of us were made to feel very welcome. Thoroughly recommend the hotel to guests who want a quiet place to relax and unwind. Coming from Gloucestershire and now living in Jersey we know some of the hotels in the County and have found all of them havens and that goes back many years. No doubt see you again before Xmas!!!!
As always food served to perfection and by lovely staff! Would highly recommend!
Fabulous night with friends we will definitely be coming back again soon, thank you x
We were fortunate to have booked for lunch on a day of glorious weather in mid September. We took the opportunity to eat at an outside table. The setting was superb. So quiet and peaceful as we dined. The staff were very engaging and friendly. The food was excellent and good value for money. What a great start to our weekend break in Jersey. We will return.
Severely disappointing. We've been going to your restaurant sporadically 40+ years and always knew it was excellent. Last year we went and were also disappointed but not quite to the same extent. We had assumed it was because it was chef's day off. Even so, we were in no hurry to repeat the experience; only because we had been given two vouchers did we return. The service was helpful and pleasant. The setting, as always, comfortable. But the kitchen! Admittedly, the starter and sorbet were good. However, the main course for both of us was unacceptable for a restaurant of your standing. The bass, clearly, overcooked. Possibly it left the pan in time, though brown from more than a light frying, but by the time - which was inordinately long before reaching our table - had reduced it to a dry, unappetising 'wodge'. The pork had long since been part of a roast. It also was dry, smothered in gravy (the sort I associate with 'pub grub') and heavily peppered - another trick for covering flavour, not aromatic at all! The vegetables were lumpy carrots, what tasted like Findus peas, if fresh, too long in waiting, and 'roast' potatoes? Well, surely the sous chef should have seen the clearly green potato that had been 'roasted' sometime before. The rest had no evidence of crispness and just warm, as were all the vegetables. The meal tasted as though it had been pre-cooked and put under the salamander grill, then swathed in gravy. The manageress assured me all food was cooked there and then. No. We sat waiting long enough for the fish to cook, the pork rested and still time enough to leave all cooling. Even the plates were tepid. Had they forgotten our meals, and needed to stick the food under the grill? The service was glacially slow, throughout. As for the cost! I'm sorry for my friends who bought the voucher - and even more so, for the second one we still have. What a waste of their money! Have no fear, though, we shall be telling them not to use your hotel again.
Fantastic Staff and Food. Lovely dining room. Will go back next time I’m in Jersey
We are regular diners at the La Chaire Restaurant and have never had a less than exceptional experience. The food in terms of its presentation and taste are better than several Michelin starred restaurants I have frequented in the UK and the service is excellent without being over zealous. The menu is limited but sufficiently varied to cater for most tastes. Without doubt my favorite restaurant in Jersey by a very large margin.
The service was very slow although food deliciois
Such a lovely place - we have to keep going back to the place we went to on our honeymoon night
An outstanding lunch, presented very well and of the highest standard. Service was warm, friendly and very efficient. Ambience is unique to the Chateau whilst the cost is decent value. Highly recommended for Sunday lunch.
Excellent customer service from very friendly attentive staff and food was amazing. Floral bouquets on the table were a lovely touch for Mothering Sunday Lunch too.
Lovely afternoon tea in a beautiful and quiet room. Service was prompt and very good. Would recommend!
Wonderful ambience, great service and top quality food at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
I requested GF afternoon tea in advance, which was not prepared. They did manage to russle something up after a wait, but it wasn’t brilliant!
The waiting staff let it down somewhat. If you are not going to continue to serve the wine then place it where your guest are able to serve themselves. The cheese ordering was a drama that didn’t need to happen. The beef to be carved at your table clearly wasn’t and was over cooked to what was ordered. After dinner having drinks in the lounge was a car if having to go locate someone to take out order and serve and the same applied to obtaining the bill. The place appeared to close at 5 with no staff around and the music switched off. A real shame as beautiful hotel which could be so much more if you had the right staff that were also trained to a required standard.
We had a relaxing drink at the bar, then went though to the restaurant.
The food was fine but the portion sizes were very small, we left still hungry.
Two extremely small lamb chops are NOT a rack of lamb and served together with one small potato a small amount of mashed carrot and a small leak, our main course was the size of a starter.
Service was good but a little rushed, overall we was disappointed and felt it was not value for money.
We came home and had snacks.
Amazing!Service outstanding. Classy bar. Elegant Manor. Beautiful garden and village.
Service and food deteriorated as the meal went on.
Squid chewy, vegetables 5 minutes late, beef rare not med-rare as ordered, desserts were all disappointing quality, and waited 15 minutes for the bill.
Very poor quality food and service for it’s reputation.
We stayed as guests at the hotel, for breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner - but most dinner guests were locals. We loved the chateau, and the restaurant. The food is classically excellent and served by marvellous twinkle-eyed staff, in a beautiful setting. We dined on the terrace and in the dining room.
The service and ambience of the chateau was excellent. However, the food was very disappointing. The crab starter was tasty, however, the roasted monkfish was tough and had membrane attached. The creme brûlée was too sweet and sloppy. At £50 a head the whole experience was very disappointing.
Very relaxing environment. Thinking about a romantic night out with your partner? This is the place. My fiancé and I both thoroughly enjoyed our 3 course meals. All staff members were friendly and attentive. Would go back there again in the future.
One very small carrot and one challot! Described on Menu as root vegetables. Technically correct but certainly not what you pay for!
Had Sunday lunch and food was ok, not amazing, what did let it down was the service. There was only 4 tables in total when we were there and despite this the services was slow. Our main course came and after a couple of minutes we had to ask for the veg to be brought out which then took a couple more minutes, so by the time we started to eat it was cold.
Would I go back probable not.
The food and service was outstanding. Whilst I appreciate this is not their fault but the family who came with 3 boisterous, badly behaved children were awful! We wanted a quiet lunch and didn't get it! The food was great though as was the value.
Celebrated a birthday, the whole experience was great, service and food outstanding, we will return.
Always a great pleasure to dine there - the tranquility is especially important.
