La Carnita-John St
Located in the financial district is La Carnita’s South Central location in a beautiful two-story heritage building. The upstairs makes for an engaging venue, seating 55 guests with its own bar.
the tacos are amazing!
Please turn down the music at lunch sittings.
Service was anemic and the music was ridiculously loud. Food was great.
Food was great but, service was non-existent. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to go back.
Overall great place! Tacos are made with attention to flavour and detail and it shows the kitchen care about the food they serve.
Music was a bit loud, but a minor issue that didn’t take away from the overall experience too much
:) great tacos!
Meeting up with friends to talk and laugh over tacos? This is your place. On a first date or meeting with a client? I recommend going elsewhere as the music volume would ensure your neighbouring tables can hear everything you're shouting at each other.
Service was slow. Drinks were slow. Food was alright. Not sure I would go back.
Issue with the food . The server was argumentative and condescending .
The food here is amazing! Absolutely delicious!
Good quality and worth the money.
However, the service was a little poor and slow. It was hard to get some one's attention for assistance. We waited a while for the server to come take our order, then waited a while for them to come back and ask where the food was and then waited again for the food to come out.
The music was extremely loud for a lunch time as well. Good music but way too loud for the hour.
Excellent food. Would definitely go there again. Gets quite busy after 12pm. Best time to go is at 11:30am.
The food was fantastic! Loved the atmosphere! Would highly recommend this place and would return again.
The service was great. I highly recommend the nachos.
Tried the carnita and spicy mushroom taco - both were great. Good sangria! Also chips with trio dips - guac was OK but have had better. Bathroom was a bit nasty. We've been before and loved it as well, but can only give 4 stars based on bathroom :)
Amazing ! Best Mexican in Toronto hands down.. get the shrimp, steak and fried chicken taco! Churros are amazing.. as well as the rose margaritas
Everything was excellent, unfortunately from London and can’t enjoy it more often.
Awesome food, best tacos I had in a long while and those churros... amazing.
Great food, restaurant was a bit too loud to have a conversation.
Wonderful selections for vegans to eat at and non vegans!
I liked this place just thought we got unlucky with our server. He seemed over it. Otherwise it was good
Best meal and drinks that I’ve had in Toronto. 10/10
Absolutely loved the chips and corn! Can’t wait to go again!!!!
We enjoyed the ambiance of this place. Very casual, easy-going and the noise level is a bit loud but not too loud. Food was fantastic and service was great.
Always a great place for lunch or dinner. Food is delicious and service is outstanding. Don’t forget to buy the kitchen a beer!
The food was atrocious.
Atmosphere was great, food was good, service was mediocre from our server- she seemed annoyed with her job. Also arrived and told the hostess I had an open table reservation- she sat us, and then as we were finishing our meals I had gotten a notification that we “missed our reservation”. I mentioned it to the hostess and she just shrugged her shoulders and said she erased it?
Well, the food is great, but what is with the gangster rap dropping N bombs at a volume so loud you can't even hear yourself think? This was at 4pm in the afternoon, with the music blaring such positive lyrics about some guy ing another guys * then shooting him with his gun, with a bunch of N bombs to go around - is this supposed to be an enriching cultural experience? The music (if you could call it that) became worse and worse. Could not wait to leave.
It was just. OK. Wouldn’t return
Very good food, amazing value for lunch special
Great food, great staff, perfect spot for food after a show.
My favourite restaurant in the city. Never disappoints!
Received appetizers after the tacos ??? They brought extra tacos that we didn’t order and forgot a couple. Waitress did not split bill correctly.
Dinner after a play with family
Table wasn't ready when we arrived so we sat at the bar and had a drink and some chips and dips. Service was great. Had to remind host we were waiting for a table. Once reminded, we were sat right away. Took over 10 minutes for a server to touch base with us after we sat down.
Food is good, not traditional Mexican but tasty.
Good spot for lunch good food dessert was amazing had the key lime pie popsicle a must
Delicious! Went back again because it was so good!
My experience at La Carnita was absolutely terrible. I have been to other locations and was expecting to have a great evening filled with great food and service, as I have experienced before. We ordered guacamole and nachos, the dish came out with a wonderful piece of hair as the centre piece of the guac. I addressed it to the waiter, he responds unapologetically “ yup that’s a hair” and continues to the kitchen to bring us a new plate. We receive our new hairless version of the dish and of course at this point are paranoid and quite frankly disgusted. The rest of our food comes out and was hairless and delicious! Then comes the bill... Usually, if the dish violates health code I expect the restaurant to automatically take it off the cheque, which is what I have always experienced in the past. Not in this situation. I address the fact that I don’t want to pay for it to which the waiter responds “... but I brought you a new one”, I then explain that it still ruined it for us and we ate barely any guacamole because we were just honestly disgusted. He respond, “maybe you should have told me you didn’t want it” - I did... just without a hair thanks. And it concludes with him saying,“how cute so you ate around the imaginary hair”. Overall loved the attitude... not. Will not be going back and do not recommend!
We absolutely LOVE La Carnita! What an amazing restaurant, with a great vibe, amazing food and perfect and friendly service from the staff. The corn is a must try, along with the cod tacos! Delicious! We will be back! An amazing first few months in Toronto, this made it 100x better! Compliments to the Kitchen - From one Chef to another! Kirby (England, UK) and Anthony (South Australia)
This place was amazing. I will be back. The food was flavourful and just the right amount. The atmosphere felt authentic and fun. I had to seek out my own cutlery but it was the lunch rush and everything else was amazing.
The key lime popsicle is a must try.
