La Carnita-John St
Located in the financial district is La Carnita’s South Central location in a beautiful two-story heritage building. The upstairs makes for an engaging venue, seating 55 guests with its own bar.
The food was not representative of traditional Mexican cuisine. The queso fundido, especially, was not even close to the real dish.
We were sitting at a table near a window and it was freezing. We asked to move to a free table and were told it was reserved so we ended up sitting at the bar.
Great place to go before the game ... $5 tecates on special very fresh ingredients... loved that the tacos were sold in singles which allowed us to try more than a few different kinds ... really enjoyed the Cali salad our server Kayleigh was friendly and attentive ... fun atmosphere
Great staff and amazing unique tacos - signature drinks are definitely worth a try!
Incredible food and drinks. Highly recommended. Can’t wait to try more
Always a great pick for tacos and mexican cuisine. Has such a fun and lively atmosphere on weekends!
This is our fourth time here but this time we tried the new menu and it was fantastic! Food is always fresh and absolutely delicious!!
Great service and great experience overall.
Everything was fantastic. Service was absolutely amazing...such nice people. Go there now! Go there often!
Our tacos and mango were great, but I didn't think the service was good (other than the person bringing refills of water). When my friend and I weren't ready to order right away, the waitress just ignored us for the rest of the time we were there. We probably would have ordered another drink or a dessert, but the waitress never asked.
The server paid us little to no attention and was unable to list any of the drinks or ingredients aside from tequila. I asked what the liquor in the sangria was and they couldn’t clarify, and when my friend ordered a bar rail drink they looked very confused. The atmosphere was awesome but our server’s distance and cluelessness really put a damper on the experience, maybe they were new. The chips appetizer was amazing and the build-your-own tacos were yummy but not presented well. I’d go again but not spend anything on alcohol, not worth it!
Great food, great service!
La Carnita came highly recommended by a local. Being from Texas we were skeptical, but everything was unique and fantastic!
Great evening, good food, great atmosphere. This is my second time here, and didn’t disappoint. It’s good for large groups as well as small. Relatively easy to get s reservation
Best guac I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot! Tacos were good too (a bit spicy for me). Margarita drink was amazing, split pitcher with friends. Overall good restaurant, would come back for sure :)
The food was really good! The servers were attentive at the start and then just disappeared. As well better training should be had regarding food restrictions or allergies. If I order vegan or dairy free tacos I likely don't want them served on the same platter as non vegan ones. As well some lighting would be nice
Food is always amazing, great atmosphere and service is usually great!
The only positive thing I can say was the hostess who’s very helpful in getting table ready for us.
This was the first time eating at La Carnita on John Street. The food was amazing. The service was incredible as well. Will definitely be going back.
Great place to eat with even better vibes ! Would highly recommend this place to go and eat with friends family or new people your meeting!
Taco heaven . Tasty tacos, great cocktails. Love being able to order one taco at a time.
Requested upstairs seating. Was told no one was being seated upstairs. Kept seeing different parties coming up and down the stairs.
Server was rude. Also waited half an hour just to get the bill and pay
A bit louder than usual, but that's mostly due to NYE attendees starting the fun early. Always great food, smiling service and affordable prices, meaning I'll come back again, and again, and again!
Great food, service was acceptable, but overall a great place to celebrate the holiday season! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something a little more adventurous. The tacos we had were excellent. Some of the best I've had in the city. The Who Shot Me? and Margarita were also excellent. Only complaint would be the speed of service, but on a busy Friday night during the holidays, I can totally understand why.
Fun spot. Ate lunch pre theatre. Food was delicious and great service. Only con was music was a little loud with explicit language (especially for lunch time, we were dining with our 3 children). That being said, would still recommend going. Not cheap though, Lunch for the 5 of us was $130
Food was cold. It came out within a minute of ordering which implies it wasn’t fresh but rather reheated. Service was atrocious. I still had food on my plate as they were trying to take it away. The server hovered until the last bite was in my mouth and promptly took my plate (as the food went into my mouth). We had to get our own utensils and clearing the table was more urgent than allowing us to collect our coats and bags.
This was an ideal venue and meal for the whole family. We all love Mexican food and the teens also appreciated the trendy atmosphere. John St location was perfect for us. The food was superlative, from apps to dessert. Service was pleasant and mostly prompt. Seating was comfortable and decor was interesting without overwhelming the food. Definitely recommended and we will be returning for sure.
Quick bite before a Leaf game.
La carnita used to be my favorite restaurant until i did a large party reso and then my view of the restaurant completley changed. La carnita is not suited for large party events. They do not offer separate bills and would like each person to calculate their bill and put partial paymenta towards the final bill. The food comes scattered so its up to the customer to remember what they ordered rather then the server. It takes very long for the food to cook and when it did come it was cold and bland.
The service was okay but the manager in the beginning was very very rude and stern with regulations it was after my sister had a chat with her in regards to ther service we recieved that she had a change of heart. Before that we wouldnt catch her even coming to our table to check up on us since she was frequently chatting with her friends often. Over all i would never ever do a large party at la carnita again.
Really tasty food and a good venue for a day to day meal out 😊
Amazing ambiance and vibe, great for a cocktail or two. The tacos were ok, but not as good as some other taco restaurants. Especially considering the price.
Too dark, too loud, food was "meh", toilet was a mess.....and NO COFFEE? Yikes.....
Was hoping to eat authentic Mexican...
But just looking around I could see who your audience is....and that is not me.
The food was amazing!! The music was a little loud; combined with conversations in a ‘live’ room made it difficult to hear the servers. The prix fix menu was perfect for our team lunch.
Loved the food. Service was great. Mexican street corn was amazzzzing
Music playlist was on point but bit too loud. Also there should be a door to block the cold air from outside - people left it open for long periods and it got very cold
Wwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too loud. Lots of people were having a good time, but if you want to have a conversation with the person you are with sir riiiiiiight next to you:). Notwithstanding that the food was awesome and our server was AWESOME.
Food was substandard, tacos were tasteless. Mediocre at best
It was my first time and was superb! Food, service, vibes all together were very enjoyable!
Great food and great service, always.
Great food our server was pushy trying to finish us quickly and the place wasn't packed
