La Carnita- College
In the heart of Little Italy, we opened our very first “Westside” La Carnita. This location includes a small but sunny patio, spots to people watch from, and comfortable booths for groups. Though Little Italy is home to many great spots, from here La Carnita was able to quickly become a Toronto staple. By offering an irresistible menu of delicious tacos, tostadas, and sharing plates, while creating a vibrant atmosphere over Westside has remained the place to be for the past 5 years.
Very good Mexican food and fast service. Very friendly atmosphere!
Overall I don’t think I’ll be coming back. Even though we had a reservation it was quite a wait to be seated and we were not offered any apology or acknowledgement for this. We have eaten at many La Carnita restaurants throughout the city, the food at this location was unnecessarily spicy. The service continued to be quite lacklustre throughout the rest of our meal.
Good restaurant for Mexican cuisine. Reasonable pricing. Ambience is more for a younger crowd as we found it a bit loud (over 50 ).
I would recommend one of the other locations I have been to but not college street. We stood in the restaurant for 12 minutes before anyone even talked to us. There were definitely employees there but not one person smiled or even said hello. Tacos were great but our corn was extremely burnt and dry.
First visit was great this being our 2nd was very dissapointing. The menu got smaller the food was hard and overcooked. Would like to give it another try but also wish there tacos were authentic and corn based just like Mexico.
To be honest, it was okay. Not fantastic, but good. One thing that shocked us was our nachos appetizer. We were surprised that a place like this would serve nachos with what can be best described at gas station cheese sauce. It was pretty bad. Not saying we’d never go back, but I am saying that we would never order the nachos again!
Everything was great except the low tables were hard to get my knees under.
Great ambiance. Great food. Good service. Our dessert didn't arrive after 15 minutes; the server came to apologize ... and when she finally delivered the dessert five minutes later, she said, "apologies again, we will not be charging you for dessert." We thought that was a very nice touch. We would definitely go again.
Service was very slow. Server took 20 minutes to greet us. He clearly had too many tables because he was running around like crazy. When he finally came over there was no apology for taking so long he just wanted to get our orders down quick and go to the next table. The food was great but the service was very poor.
It seemed understaffed for the amount of people there, but our waiter was quite helpful
Took until my 3rd beer order to get something that wasn't flat, warm or out of stock. They were able to do individual bills which was nice for a party of 5.
I made a lunch reservation for myself and two friends. They had only limited time, due to having to get back to work so I called that morning to make sure they were open for lunch and was told yes.
We arrived and the hostess told us they could only serve drinks because several staff did not show up.
We then had to find another restaurant in a hurry.
They could have called me to tell me. They had my number!
Good food as far as Mexican tacos go
Noise level too high for any type of conversation
For that reason won’t return
Tacos were ready good. But guacamole was just OK. Try avoid ordering their appetizers... we came for their Tuesday special but when we arrived (7:30pm) we were told it’s sold out. Kinda ridiculous that they keep doing this every Tuesday.
This place is FAR too loud. It is ridiculous. I like the food a lot but I will not be going back unless I’m eating alone and have earplugs with me. Service was slow but the staff we quite pleasant.
Took a long time to get drink orders or even water but besides that the food is amazing.
La Carnita is fun and has a laid back atmoshpere. The service at College St is very good. The food is consistent and comes out fast. Always enjoy their cocktail list. "Who Shot YA" is a delicious cocktail.
We were looking for a more sophisticated experience. Too loud and too many tattoos.
Love la carnita. Just disappointed at how much they were sold out of on the menu. Otherwise it’s our fav place
Delicious tacos. Couldn’t pick a bad one if you tried! Corn was outstanding as well. Music was very loud though (and not my particular taste) but we were seated under the speaker - perhaps it is not as loud elsewhere. Service was great. Will definitely visit again.
Todo rico, lo único malo es que las tortillas estaban frías.
I made a reservation for my birthday. Asked to be seated on the patio and was told to wait. The patio ended up be given to someone else instead. The manager did apologize for the confusion. I had a great time, for a lot of my friends it was their first time there so I’m glad the food was delicious and the service was fast and polite.
Too loud, food was ok but it had been better before.
Everything was perfect, my tacos were incredible! We tried the chorizo quesadilla which was very good only wish that it was bigger. They had a deal on sangria, Sunday’s for $25.00 which tasted so good and it was very refreshing. We ate outside on a beautiful day. Service was prompt, food came out quickly. Can’t wait to go back
I went to La Carnita 2 nights in a row. First night, food was excellent. Second night, I ordered exactly what I had on night #1 and the food was much much spicier to the point where I couldn't eat it. Very surprised at this second experience given my first experience. Not sure I would go back or recommend La Carnita because of the inconsistency of the food. There was no offer to replace food after I told wait staff that it was too hot.
Love the food but the music is just too loud! Can’t even have a conversation.
Amazing Mexican food! A must try! Get the Avocado and Mango salad and Tuna Ceviche
Food was amazing but the tables were very close together, when you stood up your butt would graze the other person’s table when you were trying to get out. The music is also incredibly loud. My significant other is half deaf and we couldn’t carry out a conversation over the music and other people trying to talk over it. Great food but if you are claustrophobic and can’t handle loud music it is not a great place to go.
The food was great overall we find it unreasonable the staff cannot split the bills for party’s if over 6 people. Also we ended up paying extra because we paid half in cash and others paid by debit. The restaurant needs to change their policy regarding this. Surely management can find a way to sufficiently calculate bills and split it.
Birthday Dinner! Ambiance Food Service! All amazing
I always have an amazing time at La Carnita and I always look forward to the amazing food!
Thank you for everything!!
We've been to La Carnita before (all the locations) and have always had a great time, however, this past weekend was a terrible experience. Our food took an hr to arrive and although after the hr wait one of the wait staff apologized for the delay (not our waitress of course), there was no reason given as to why it took so long. The waitress totally ignored us during our wait and wouldn't even make eye contact because she knew we were waiting. The same thing happened to the two tables beside us. When the food arrived at our neighbour's table it was the wrong order. Our food tasted great but it also could've been because we were starving by the time it got to us! Also we had the bill dropped off and it took another 20 minutes for the machine to come to our table so we could actually leave.
I wouldn't go back to that location any time soon and will not hesitate to tell friends about our experience.
The service was amazing! Food was delicious. Only thing I have to say is that the music was a bit too loud, we had to yell to hear eachother. But that’s expected on a Friday night!
It was just too loud for a dining experience. This made it very difficult to not only talk but get the attention of the staff. We had to help ourselves to share plates and cutlery before the food got cold.
Loud in the back. Tried to sit in the front but we were only 3 and it was for 4. Kind of inflexible in that department.
Otherwise great food, nice service and totally awesome margaritas!
I loved it as always, food was great, service was great but a little too loud
I really want to give La Carnita a 5 star rating. The food is always great, and ambiance is great. Brought my friends who have been dying to go and was their first time. The hostess was really nice and seated us as soon as we walked in. But the service from the waitress was horrible. Had to ask if we could order a drink, had to ask if we could order food, no help with the menu as to what would be good sharing. Just interest in taking my order than actually engaging and making this a good client experience. I’ll go back again because the food is awesome, hopefully I just get a more engaged server next time!
Food is amazing! My service was awesome, a bit too loud but it’s fine
WAY too loud. Server brought salads held up against her chest. Male server wore cut off shorts that were way too short. Not a pleasant experience, sorry.
