La Carbonara Ratings and Reviews
In the city for Christmas with my two daughters and wanted to find a neighborhood cafe for a cozy holiday dinner. Made last minute reservations on Open Table and crossed my fingers. Santa Claus must have put us on the good list - Wonderful service, tasty food and fair prices. We felt like locals enjoying an exquisite evening. Our table was even beside the Christmas tree. What a great find!
We were warmly greeted by the hostess who was accommodating in assisting us with a table in a quiet corner. Miriam could not have been more delightful. In general, everyone was pleasant and efficient.
The food was delicious, with perfect seasoning in each and every dish. Fabulous olive oil for dipping warm, crusty bread.
Portions were generous, and my grilled calamari appetizer was generous enough to be a main dish.
When we mentioned one of was celebrating a special birthday, the staff came out with a dessert holding a lighted candle and sang birthday wishes to our friend. Lovely.
It's our first time at this restaurant, but we will return, and we'll tell our friends about our find!!
The food was good, not amazing. The octopus was slightly over cooked. The pasta was well cooked. The desserts were not made there and previously frozen.
The biggest problem is that they did not take Open Table gift cards even though they claim to on tha site. This would have been fine except the maitre d’ came to the table with his phone and the person from open table on the line. It was quite awkward. I spoke with open table who claimed that the restaurant has taken them in the past. Open table was gracious and apologetic and gave me credit plus. Th restaurant lied to me not to take the gift card, and the whole experience of having to explain to the maitre d’ that they have taken these in the past was annoying. It ruined the entire meal.
Very convenient to where we were staying, but would be worth going across town for. The gnocchi were about as close to perfect as possible, tender and tasty. The sauce was clean and bright. The salad was served in a crispy cheese bowl and was phenomenal and perfectly dressed. The only flaw was the eggplant was a bit tough. Otherwise, a beautiful meal. Go. Eat. Enjoy.
What a great service, they were very considerate, helpful and professional. Even asked if music was too loud since me and bf picked a table in the corner that was near the speakers.
The food was delicious, they were happy to adjust order too which is an extra plus.
Will definitely come back, very happy to find a place like this next to my home)
My wife & I attended an event in the area and looked ahead for a place to have dinner. La Carbonara was close by so we looked a table after reading so many top-notch reviews. We were still wary because we have experienced places with good reviews that were disappointing.
Well - we were so happy we found La Carbonara - cozy warm atmosphere, old world feeling, linen tablecloths and napkins. Our server was very warm and patient even though most tables were filled.
The food - I ordered the Lasagna Tradizionale and my wife ordered the Minestrone soup. I am Italian - grew up in an Italian household - I have had many many versions of Lasagna - including my own. The Lasagna at La Carbonara is beyond description. It has a meat sauce - I mean - a meat sauce - small meatballs - chunks of other meat - the noodles seem homemade - not like the store bought Ronzoni or even the ones that cook in the sauce. - and the sauce--------Fagedaboudit!
Even though the portion was just right for me (and I'm a pretty big eater) I was wishing I had more - It was too good to come to an end - so I toyed with the idea to maybe asking for a side of meat balls, but I did not and glad because the desert was also terrific - I had the Grandmother's cake - Lemony filling over a shortbread crust topped with pine nuts and powdered sugar.
Oh - my wife thoroughly enjoyed the Minestrone - she said it heart and substance -
I had to help her finish her slice of Grandmother's cake. On the way home we were thinking of what other events we can attend in the same area - but - hey - we'll take a taxi no matter where we go. This is a really top notch authentic Italian restaurant. And we are really food people.
Excellent food, widely varied menu including fabulous homemade pastas and great meat and fish entrees. Reasonable prices. Terrific, attentive service, beautiful room with tables nicely spaced. So why only four stars and not five? Well, the small bar at the front of the restaurant was populated by a few very loud people whose laughter and voices reverberated throughout the restaurant, which seemed to make an attempt to drown them out by turning up the volume of the music. The decor seems designed for quiet conversation, but that was impossible at the time I was there. I'm sure this was not typical and I'll definitely return -- I really like this restaurant -- but they need either to separate the bar from the dining room or cut barflies off when they've clearly had too much!
Overall, La Carbonara is consistent with quality of food and level of service with both being very good. I will say that I tried to use Opentable dining points and La Carbonara rejected the gift card even though it clearly stated the restarurant's name and address on it. Opentable reimbursed the points to me. It was embarrassing to say the least as I was treating friends to a dinner. Anyway, I would recommend La Carbonara for a casual, italian dinner.
There were fourteen of us, not quite an impromptu gathering, immediately welcomed and settled. And then the foods began to arrive, and each one was wonderful. Paired with the wine we chose, it just kept getting better and better. What was particularly special for us all was the attentive service, and the welcoming humor with which it was done. As for the desserts ... a stunning selection, nothing cloying, each terrific. And then, as if we hadn't had enough, we were served their signature cheese cake. Truly special and delicious and worth a bunch of !!!!!
i hope that this restaurant can improve its service. our food was not bad at all, but the service was remarkably poor. staff seemed disorganized and were slow to take orders. they were not always knowledgeable about the menu. every course was verrrrrry slow to arrive. the room seemed noisy and confused as customers looked around for their servers.
I've liked this restaurant for years although i don't get there often- This time it was for my sister's birthday and though we were the only ones there at the start, at the time we needed to leave they were getting busy and our waitress was over-burdened. She was wonderful and we thank the staff for everything but the hostess and other staff did not seem to be able to step in and help the waitstaff when things got busy right when we needed coffee and check (we had told them at the start we needed to leave in one hour and they acknowledged it). Still a very nice place and my guests said the bar drinks were good as well- Lovely end of summer meal.
I was disappointed at this visit and I have been here a few times before. The restaurant was very quiet hence, an undo amount of attention. However, the fish was not fresh, half portions of pasta are not available for an appetizer, and a change in pasta type is unnecessarily an additional charge. Flexibility and a waitstaff that will let you alone to enjoy your own company is warranted. Make a few changes and La Carbonara will be up to par again.
We had a wonderful time. The food was great and the ambiance was really nice. The service was a little slow and the tables are small, so it was a bit crowded with our bread, salad, and entree plates on the table at once. We used a Groupon which turned out to be an amazing deal. Overall, I would definitely return.
