La Canela, which translates to ‘Cinnamon’, was opened in winter of 2007 as a sister restaurant to La Flor de la Canela. The food we offer is a combination of authentic Peruvian cuisine and old family recipes.
At La Canela, we strive to provide delicious food that was made to order and made from scratch.
La Canela came recommended from several Peruvian friends. We were a party of 4. Two of us had lots of experience with Peruvian cuisine and two had never tried it before. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, sharing seafood, chicken and beef plates. While all the dishes we ordered were excellent, the Seco stood out as being extra special. We'll have to come back and try the other half of the menu.
It was ok.... La Alimeña is cheaper and better!
Always terrific! Ceviche and salad for a light lunch on a hot day: perfect! Service was outstanding as usual. We thoroughly enjoy coming to this testy.
I went there twice the same week. The first time with a colleague who was attending a conference with me. We both loved it do much we decided to go back with a larger group of friends and colleagues the following day. Excellent food, very typical Peruvian. And the service was superb.
Everything was good!! The hostess lady was very accommodating, and Rebeca our waitress was soo nice. We didn’t have to wait for the food that long. The portions were good and everything was well cooked and delicious!! The only downsize was the lightning is very poor. Too dim for my liking and some of the spots in the restaurant were too dark. But despite that we really enjoyed our date night!!! We had so much fun!! A truly Peruvian gem in the heart of Rockville!!! My husband loved it too and we agreed on making La Canela our Peruvian spot for date nights!!
Been there four times and everything time has been wonderful. Great food and excellent service. The restaurant is beautiful and very relaxing. I live a hour away and will gladly drive to la canela time and time again. Trust me you won't be disappointed😊
While a hidden gem from the outside, the inside of La Canela takes you straight to Peru where you are treated to an authentic, home-made dining experience and exposed to other aspects of Peruvian culture such as the music and architecture. Definitely somewhere to be for a special occasion. The service and menu selection are exquisite and diverse. All in all, a first class dining experience.
We had a wonderful family meal a La Canela. Our server was excellent, offering great suggestions and explanations of dishes. Our group of three adults and two school aged boys all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food.
2 people. Only problem is appetizer and main dish came together when we had requested separate
A lot of choices of gluten-free dishes. All food was delicious
Food was amazing. We had the beef with fries and basmati rice with peppers and onions. The house margarita is excellent and the pasta with chicken was good although very rich. Tres leche desert is exceptional.
Very good food at reasonable prices. Also, authentic Peruvian food with some standard fare options available. Attention is superb. Good wine selection too.
Excellent food and service. Authentic up scale Peruvian food. Make sure to try the trout and short ribs.
Continues to be my absolute favorite restaurant in Rockville
The food is delicious, the portion are perfect, and the service was friendly and prompt.
Delicious food and great service. It’s the perfect place for an evening out with friends!
We dined at La Canela in celebration of my husband’s birthday. The food and drinks were good, but the service was a bit slow. Still not enough to make us not go back, we enjoy the food here and look forward to our next visit
The ribs and yucca are big enough for a meal... Still, I had to add a side of tacu tacu—- yum!
My husband enjoyed the lamb and we both loved the crab croquettes!
Seemed short staffed making the service slow, although our waiter was very friendly and helpful.
Portions are very large. Best restaurant I have been to in ages based on the quality of the food. The short ribs excellent, and the fresh cerviche absolutely the best and plentiful for two!
Look forward to going back.
This is definitely one of the best restaurants in the DMV! The food is outstanding, atmosphere is beautiful, and service is great! You can tell they use high quality ingredients! If you haven’t been here, you’re missing out!
My wife is Peruvian and we are fans of the cuisine (been to every top restaurant in Lima multiple times) great. La Canela was the first Peruvian place in DC area we visited, and at the time it seemed ok. We came back this weekend and it was not great. It might not have been any worse than last time we came here. But since Pisco y Nazca opened in downtown DC, La Canela has nothing to offer. The tiradito was overcooked (chemically, that is), the anticucho de corazon was too thinly sliced and also overcooked, the maracuya (passion fruit) sour was just bad. Not coming here again...
This is one of the best restaurants in town. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great everything. I highly recommend it.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We are glad you enjoyed La Canela and your dining experience with us! Thank you for your review, we hope to see you again soon!
First visit, a very nice surprise. Excellent food and service.
The place is beautiful, and the service and food were excellent. The food reminded us of our dinner in Lima. Also, since my husband is a wheelchair user, seating is often an issue in a restaurant but here the assigned table was perfect - neither next to the entrance nor in a tight corner. We will be back.
Wonderful place the beef, the cheese and meat balls, the wine and the three leche cake. Very tasty and great and friendly service
Wonderful, family-owned Peruvian restaurant in Rockville Town Center. My husband and I had a wonderful meal with terrific, attentive staff. The patatas bravas and ceviche are not to be missed.
Best ceviche I’ve ever had!!
Returned for a second time after an awesome experience about a month ago. Second time was just as great! Alexis was gracious, attentive and patient! Will definitely keep dining here!
Very nice ambiance and delicious food!
No one else was there
I would recommend this place! It was a great spot for a first date but I was bummed that the restaurant closes at 9. My date and I were rushed out because it was closing. The food was incredible though!
Excellent place for lunch and dinner !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice place in Rockville town center - great and authentic food, delicate dining environment, plus friendly staff. Definitely will recommend it to others.
Great food! Wonderful recommendations from our waitress Lilly! Will definitely be back.
Absolutely fantastic! We all loved everything about it! We will keep going back!
Delicious food. Great service. Will definitely return.
Nice surprise in Rockville Town Center. We had a window table near the bar. Easy to hear each other. Great service with a full explanation of the Peruvian dishes on the menu. Excellent value for a delightful evening and delicious meal.
The service was great but the menu was limited and the food was not good. I ordered the ribs and it was dried out and tasteless. Needless to say we won’t be visiting this place again.
Ceviche was great. Our server was very enthusiastic and attentive. I enjoyed my pisco sour. Fish was a bit salty. Really liked the ambiance.
Went for Valentine’s day. They had a reduced simplified menu. No tiraditos, no tacu tacus. Very limited options. We got a bad table for two, next to the bar in the middle of traffic of waiters and customers. Felt like best days of this place are behind. Don t know if I will return.
