La Calaca Feliz Ratings and Reviews
Outstanding dinner with excellent service (Matt) in nice setting. We have been to La Calaca Felice before, but this dinner was exceptional. Good house margarita and draft beer selections. There are vegetarian and vegan selections on the menu (although they are not marked). Don't miss the cauliflower tacos--subtle and delicious--so much better than what you might imagine. Lovely squash soup with hominy, generously sized and delicious salad with fried garbanzo beans to add a bit of protein, and a beautifully presented entree of grain-filled, mole smothered, enchiladas. Asked for a quiet table and they were very thoughtful in their response.
La Calaca Feliz is the original "Feliz" restaurant that now includes branches in Manayunk, Ft. Washington and Horsham. All of them feature, fresh ingredients, creative menus and delicious food. It also helps to have friendly, knowledgeable and attentive service.
Although begging for more space, this local Mexican will be on your "Be Back" list. Enjoy!
My husband and I met friends for dinner and Fairmount is a great place to meet because there’s parking. I loved the atmosphere. We were greeted by everyone we encountered on staff as we walked in, which was so nice. Monday nights there are special Margaritas, so we enjoyed one with pomegranate and hibiscus!
We started with the Brussels sprouts tlayuda (like a pizza). Amazing! We also loved the chips and guacamole. Both were very fresh. I had the black bass for my entree, which was incredible. I know I’ll be craving it again soon.
The service was excellent. We were well taken care of, and it was a delightful evening. Highly recommend. Can’t wait to return!
The food is excellent and the wait staff are fantastic. My one qualm is that the dining area is incredibly echoey and noisy. I don’t know what they can do to solve this but it’s worth mentioning. My wife and I actually prefer sitting at the bar which is an unequivocally good experience.
La Calaca was a great place for dinner with a group of girlfriends. We celebrated a birthday there and the server was nice enough to hold a cake we brought, and slice it for us as well. The server was very attentive and even checked in on our drinks right before happy hour ended.
Parking was complicated with Eastern State Penit. "Terror Behind the Walls" and we ended up being 20 minutes late for our reservation. We called and they were very accommodating of our delay. We let the waitress know we only had about 45 minutes to eat before our event and they had us out in 30 minutes without feeling rushed. Good food, good service.
Had a great anniversary dinner! Thanks The pork was delicious and crispy. My wife had the special which was fish tacos , she loved them. Both dinner's came with a beer, which was cool.
We also had the brussel sprout pizza? with bacon. My wife wants the recipe!
Great atmosphere and food ! Only complaint is I made the restervation almost two weeks in advance.. and when we got there there were not a lot of people in the place.. it would have been nice to not be seated in the very back corner of the restaurant with no view of the outside patio area.. we were kinda crunches between the fireplace and door... really really really small space. Would have been nice to have been placed in a better spot. Over all I would totally go back, food, atmosphere and service was great.
What killed it for us was very poor service. The manager did change out the server and that improved everything. Food was very good but value was low. 3 tacos, 2 margaritas and an order of Guacamole = $50+ there are too many good Mexican places with more authentic for less. Better value elsewhere.
Six of us came for dinner and it was all delicious. Guacamole and chips were outstanding. We ordered the regular one and the other one had pumpkin...delicious. It was taco tuesday so we ordered tacos and beer (special for $12). all the tacos were yummy. We also ordered black beans and rice and fried plantains. Loved it all!!!! Nice size portions also.
The food was delicious. We had nachos, baha fish tacos and the special brisket tacos. Love it all. The house margiritas were spot on. The waiter Kyle was super friendly and knowledgeable about all the menu items. Gave great recommendations. All of the staff were nice and welcoming Can't wait to go again!
Went here for the first time based on positive reviews for the Fairmount area. Liked the place. Food was fresh and tasty. Tequila selection very deep. Atmosphere bustling and youthful.....fun overall. Not a place for serious dining or folks who are seeking a quiet atmosphere. Would go back.
What a great meal we had! Family from out of town needed to be taken someplace relaxing with good food. We picked a winner. The special taco of the evening was excellent, but more importantly, the service was outstanding. We had wanted to sit on the patio, but the hostess explained on the phone it was a first come situation. When we arrived, a table had been held for us! Later, when the left over guacamole I asked to take home hadn't come to us, we asked the waitress about it. The kitchen made a new batch for us. What service! This has always been a fun and delicious place for us...but now it moves to the top of the our list!
