Server was amazing
Best short rib nachos in the city
We came here for a birthday dinner with 11 people and our time was AMAZING! We can’t stop raving about it! The service was great for our large group. We all decided to do the chef tasting menu and LOVED it! It made the meal and night so much easier! They just kept bringing out one amazing dish after another. Our favorite things were the fish tacos and the slow braised beef!! So so good. And the margaritas were great. The presentation of the food was great, loved the atmosphere of the restaurant.
I took a friend of my for the first time to La Calaca Feliz. I was excited to take her there because I always loved the guac, the tacos and the margaritas. Unfortunately, this time around La Calaca Feliz did not hold up to their quality of food. The Margaritas were not inspiring, we both had the Lychee Margarita, which to me tasted more like juice with some tequila and a lychee at the bottom, and its presentation was not inspiring at all. We ordered the traditional guacamole, which fortunately was the only thing that's still delicious! As entrees we ordered the baja fish and carnitas tacos. Now, the way the baja fish taco was served, it looked more like a hot dog than a taco, the sauces was the only thing that made this taco taste somewhat decent. The carnitas taco was not good at all. It had a lot of onions, and the meat that was served on them seemed to be the left over from a previous meal. The meat was crunchy and no shredded, and it lacked flavor. I
Our server was great and very attentive, and the food and drinks were just as good as I remembered from a few years ago.
Best tacos ever had! Very knowledgable staff
Food was excellent. The meal was coursed perfectly & Our server was fabulous.
Great ambiance! Delicious carnitas tacos and the guacamole was excellent. Went on a Thursday night with a friend and am glad I made a reservation because it was full in there! Happy hour lasts until 7, which is also a plus!
Amazing! The Mexican shrimp and grits was terrific, as well as the mole sauce. Service was terrific as well!
Our server seemed to be stoned... it was unbelievable... we were without water, and she forgot to place our order... coming back to the table and asking did you order?... terrible service and poor flow of the time we spent there... it was embarrassing as It was business meal... not that it would have been tolerable otherwise...
If you just want tacos and/or enchiladas and enjoy a noisy atmosphere and a quick meal, then this place will work for you. If you want a leisurely meal and a place to enjoy quiet conversation then stay away! As far as the food goes, we were disappointed with what we ordered - a duck confit flatbread, a seafood enchilada (the best thing we ate) and then lamb barbacoa taquitos, which came out coolish. We complained, and we were offered dessert on the house, (which was a nice gesture), but we declined as the damage was done.
Amazing Mexican food (and this from a Mexican reviewer), with great drink options (virgin Margaritas available!). The staff is always very friendly and the food is consistently delicious.
Best nachos in fairmount
It was well choreographed as we chose the chef tasting. Only complaint was that as a group for five the table was tight with all the plates and servings. Yet overall the service was adequate.
A favorite neighborhood Mexican spot!
We had a lovely dinner La Calaca Feliz! The food, the atmosphere and the service were flawless. Thanks to the kitchen for their yummy selections, we can’t wait to come back!
Best guacamole and I’ve had a lot in my life! The service was great especially to my 2 young kids. Do yourself a favor and get a margarita!
The food is excellent. Extremely tasty, even my picky boyfriend was satisfied. Good portion sizes. Fantastic drinks. I highly recommend the elotes Loco and the chili margarita. I deducted points only because it has limited seating space, and the tables are very close together. But I do feel the food and friendly staff more than make up for the squeeze.
Great food, great service. Can't complain.
All of our food was excellent. I will mention the guacamole because it was the best I've ever had! Period. and I have eaten a lot of guac at a lot of restaurants. The house margarita was delicious and very bargain priced at $7.50 for a generous glass. The cauliflower tacos: awesome.
The service was friendly but there were things that disappointed: it was hard to get our server's attention to get more drinks. I think this was because the place was packed with a lot of groups, including a lot of kids, and was quite loud. I don't know if that's typical on a Saturday night at 7:00, by the time we left at 9:00, it was much quieter. Another complaint is they brought our entrees only a few minutes after the guacomole we had ordered as an appetizer.
This Fairmount spot is a true gem, with impeccable service and great food. Best guacamole in Philly!
La Calaca Feliz is one of my favorite go-to restaurants. Decent area to park, great food, great people, great happy hour margaritas!
Great Mexican! We were there with another couple and ordered the fundido and brussel sprouts app for the table. Everyone was very happy with the portion for four people to share. The apps were delicious. The drinks were good, they have a great selection. Our entrees were also tasty. I had the crab enchiladas, they were well done but there were a lot of items that looked interesting on the menu so I would try something different. My husband is veg and loved the cauliflower tacos. My small only complaint is that we couldn't get a drink at the bar while we were waiting in the very narrow passageway for our table. (The bartenders weren't really paying attention to us and were also busy.) I highly recco this restaurant!
This is our go-to spot in the neighborhood, and our first choice for anyone who comes to visit. Our standard favorites (baja fish tacos!) are always delicious, and every time we branch out (crispy pig ears, duck tlayuda) we are impressed with the delightful combination of flavors in each dish. Super friendly neighborhood feel to the space, with an adventurous menu that feels anything but local.
It was fair. Food portions small and everonevin our party left something on their plate. Dessert was good. It was okay - not fabulous, not horrible just ok.
Unfortunately the chicken enchiladas where unsatisfactory. The chicken was dry and over cooked. The serving size small for the price of the meal.
Really good food, but a little over-priced. Will come back, but only during happy hour.
Overall good experience. Very fast and efficient! A little bit of a tight squeeze in the dining area, but definitely will go back to try more on the menu!
Wait staff were kind and not too intrusive. Food was a good value.
Delightful spot with excellent Mexican cuisine (including the best guacamole in town) and exceptionally attentive and thoughtful service. Now adding it to the regular rotation.
Outstanding dinner with excellent service (Matt) in nice setting. We have been to La Calaca Felice before, but this dinner was exceptional. Good house margarita and draft beer selections. There are vegetarian and vegan selections on the menu (although they are not marked). Don't miss the cauliflower tacos--subtle and delicious--so much better than what you might imagine. Lovely squash soup with hominy, generously sized and delicious salad with fried garbanzo beans to add a bit of protein, and a beautifully presented entree of grain-filled, mole smothered, enchiladas. Asked for a quiet table and they were very thoughtful in their response.
Solid food. Solid chef. Drink menu could use sprucing. Decor could use updating. Service was prompt and friendly.
Food and service were very good, and the place itself is lovely. We really enjoyed ourselves and will return soon.
La Calaca Feliz is the original "Feliz" restaurant that now includes branches in Manayunk, Ft. Washington and Horsham. All of them feature, fresh ingredients, creative menus and delicious food. It also helps to have friendly, knowledgeable and attentive service.
Although begging for more space, this local Mexican will be on your "Be Back" list. Enjoy!
My husband and I met friends for dinner and Fairmount is a great place to meet because there’s parking. I loved the atmosphere. We were greeted by everyone we encountered on staff as we walked in, which was so nice. Monday nights there are special Margaritas, so we enjoyed one with pomegranate and hibiscus!
We started with the Brussels sprouts tlayuda (like a pizza). Amazing! We also loved the chips and guacamole. Both were very fresh. I had the black bass for my entree, which was incredible. I know I’ll be craving it again soon.
The service was excellent. We were well taken care of, and it was a delightful evening. Highly recommend. Can’t wait to return!
Food was absolutely delish!! Perfect example of a neighborhood gem!
The food is excellent and the wait staff are fantastic. My one qualm is that the dining area is incredibly echoey and noisy. I don’t know what they can do to solve this but it’s worth mentioning. My wife and I actually prefer sitting at the bar which is an unequivocally good experience.
Fun place close to the Art Museum interesting and very good food
La Calaca Feliz is a very good restaurant. The menu is just excellent with a great variety but at the same time authentic mexican cuisine. I highly recommend the elote loco and the enchiladas by far my favorites. Great service too. Highly recommend it.
