La Calaca Feliz
La Calaca received 3 Bells from Philadelphia Inquirer food critic Craig Laban who stated, "Calaca has helped push the dial forward a few more clicks on the evolution of contemporary Mexican cooking in this town".
yummy food, great service + happy hour specials!
The food and drinks were great. Service was friendly and atmosphere was welcoming.
Always good food and drinks but tables too close together
I love all the Feliz restaurants. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is friendly and warm. I go whenever I can!
Bacon and Fig guacamole was amazing
A neighborhood favorite. Never disappoints.
A good selection of tasty food combined with efficient, friendly service.
bartenders consistently NICE and EFFICIENT. DRINKS are really good... food is really good! the happy hour food quality is better than many restaurants... get there!
Food: awesome. Drinks: awesome. Bartender Marciano: awesome.
Best place in the area to grab some delicious, fresh food before heading to Eastern State Penitentiary for some Halloween fun! Oh, and those spicy margaritas? To DIE for (no pun intended).
As always the food and service at this restaurant was excellent.
Tried this restaurant one a Tuesday night. It was packed they seemed to be understaffed but our waiter was excellent. The food was ok. Tried the carne asada tacos as they sounded like something different chili apple butter and popcorn topping. The popcorn made no sense I was hoping it was an unexpected pairing that was really good but it was just plain bland popcorn on a taco. Not sure who approved this item. Outside of that the guacamole and salsa verde were really yummy. Maybe my dish was just a miss.
I come here every year when "Terror behind the Walls." The food is always amazing and the prices, esp. during happy hour are reasonable. The service is a little neglecting, but we weren't in a rush, so not a big deal.
Seated by open door to patio, was pretty chilly
.. server was super nice and competent but obviously weeded (busy af).. floor seemed a touch understaffed and our server had outside AND inside tables. Not always a good look for having eyes on guests needs.
Food was outstanding, the mushroom tacos are banging. Will def go again! maybe I'll avoid the busiest times
AMAZING FOOD, great service. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. If your visiting the Terror behind the Walls at the State Prison this is the place to stop and grab dinner before. Free parking and only a block away. Thank you for making our date night a great one. We will return for sure.
Love the food! Went with a group of six and everyone loved their meals! We had reservations for 7:00 and it took a half hour for our table to be ready. They so sweetly covered appetizers for us—truly was a nice touch. I love coming here for happy hour and dinner did not disappoint!
Great mushroom tacos and spicy margaritas. The guacamole is very tasty, too. The tables are big enough to hold more than a few plates and drinks. There’s a gluten-free chocolate cake at the end of you’re up for it.
Always great food
This was one of our favorite restaurants but this time the tasting menu was a joke, the guacamole was so salty it was awful, the service was horrible , and a twenty percent tip was automatically added for a party of six . Awful experience- we will not be returning. It’s a sad thing because it used to excellent and it is not anymore .
Everything we ordered was tasteless and over salted. We've here quite a few times and to some of the other locaitons of this brand restaurant and have had a good experience in the past. This time was absolutely awful.
Would not recommend.
La Calaca Feliz was a wonderful dining experience ! It’s a busy time of year with Eastern state terror behind the walls down the street. The staff was knowledgeable efficient and I’m still dreaming about the short rib tacos !
Great food, service, and ambiance.
We love the food- our fav Mexican spot. Very happy atmosphere.
For this visit it was clear that our waiter was not happy that we brought 3 kids :/
Great Tex-Mex restaurant with a happening vibe. Our server was very attentive, the food was delicious and we had a mix of diners including two vegetarians. Everyone was happy with their entrees. We all enjoyed the guacamole and I had the baja fish tacos. Others had the elotes, the corn flatbread, and tacos. The margaritas were also great. My only complaint was that it was VERY loud. We had a hard time hearing each other and we were in a corner.
Enjoyed dinner here. Waitress was a little on the reserved side and seemed as if she was not comfortable with her position. Food was great.
Not what I remembered or expected unfortunately.
The dinner special, shrimp tacos, were AMAZING! And both margaritas were delicious! Will definitely be back very soon!
The food is above average in presentation and taste. When we first visited we thought the restaurant was too pricey for the neighborhood, but it seems to be on the cusp, about average for the mid-high end of Fairmount eateries. Our waitress was a transferee from the Manayunk site and she delivered very personable, outstanding service.
The food and service were wonderful. We'll definitely be back!
Always like going to a comfortable neighborhood restaurant on a week night. La Calaca Feliz has wonderful Mexican food with friendly service. It fits the ‘happy place’ bill.
Food & Drinks were GREAT! A little too noisy on that Saturday Evening (for me)!
We love the food and energy at this neighborhood restaurant. The tacos are creative and delicious. And the Garcia margarita on the rocks always hits the spot! If you love mole, you will be a happy diner here.
The guacamole was just okay. Service was attentive and prompt. The sirloin was tough and fatty. The mahi mahi was tasty. But all in all, not a memorable experience. The AC felt like it was barely working and it was a beastly hot day. Wouldn't rush back but serves as an okay neighborhood spot.
We enjoyed our visit to La Calaca Feliz. The food was very good, as was the service. We had a group of 12 and would recommend the restaurant for large groups. The only suggestion, especially on a day as warm as when we visited, is to request for the room to be kept colder - several members of our group complained about the warm temperature inside.
We always enjoy our time at La Calaca Feliz. We love the food and drinks! Our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. I have Celiac Disease and they are good about letting me know what is GF. Tortilla chips are fried in dedicated GF frier, which is another reason why we go here over other Mexican places around.
The portions were not that great, but tasted pretty good. Just a little underwhelming.
Short Rib Nachos were very good and the Black Bass was outstanding.
Delicious and amazing. This place is so consistently good!!
Really great. Everything comes together so nicely here. It would be even better to see vegetarian and vegan options more prominently displayed. This is not a complaint but a hope :)
Great food as always. Eating in the courtyard is always so pleasant. Cushions on the teal chairs would be a plus.
