John, it was a pleasure having you join us. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Stop in simply for an appetizer and a craft cocktail sometime, we are gradually becoming much more than just an anniversary destination! Until next time! Cheers, Marc Vatsend GM
I really enjoyed how attentive the staff was to my experience. Always asking if I was being taken care of. From the front desk to the servers. They all did fantastic work and had great attitudes. I also like how the place is fancy but not snob-fancy. The prices are reasonable and no one makes you feel out of place in this environment. They treat you the same, with respect, and as a paying customer. Thanks!
Absolutely amazing ambiance, food, and staff. We had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back for dinner and to try brunch!
beautiful grounds, staff and food. Fully enjoyed our Sunday brunch!
Deb was a great server, pleasant personality, efficient, and attentive. The escargot was wonderful and the bouillabaisse was well balanced and tasty and the birthday flaming banana Foster was very good
Thank you for your review! And happy belated birthday btw, glad to see you enjoyed the our banana gateau!
We usually love coming to La Caille, but this experience ruined me for life and I may not ever go back. It’s very expensive and so we are quite limited in how often we can go. I expect La Caille to be a world-class experience but I’ve had better service at Chick-fil-A. It took at hour after we got seated to finally order some food. Drinks and bread took a good 45 minutes to show up and the drinks were ill prepared. It took another 30-45 minutes for the appetizer to show up, but our waitress didn’t offer any more bread or something to compensate for the excessive wait time. Additionally, our waitress disappeared for long periods of time after each time she came to the table (in excess of 20 minutes at some points). We had to ask another waiter to refill our water. Our waitress just kept telling us how understaffed they were, which I don’t understand because La Caille is by reservation only - limit the number of reservations. Our total time there was 3 hours and 45 minutes and another 10 minutes for Valet to retrieve the car. The cherry on top was a little heart next to the additional gratuity line after we were already automatically charged 20% for gratuity.
Hi Carl! I deeply apologize about your long wait to get sat on Saturday evening. I see your 9 top was split up 5-6 ways, but all the ticket times look up and up on my end, so please give me a call, and we can discuss. Deb is a great server, and does a fantastic job for us here. I intentionally took 46% fewer covers, due to covid, so if anything we were overstaffed for the covers, so I'd love to hear more. Give me a call or stop in for tea sometime. Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend GM801-942-1751
Wonderful ambience. Peaceful and quiet. Good spaced seating.
Thank you for your kind review! We appreciate it in these challenging times, it especially means a lot to us! Cheers, Marc Vatsend GM
Great ambience and fantastic food, loved the attention to detail!
Thank you for the great review Bob! We look forward to seeing you again soon! Cheers, Marc Vatsend GM
The seating was very close, considering Covid .
I barely had 2 feet distance between table.
Good afternoon, I understand your concerns. We are doing our best to spread out seating as much as possible. Although we've have some very busy days, I do have some other options available. Please feel free to contact me before your next visit, and I'm more than happy to do our best at more private option. We do take public health very seriously and our masking up, disinfecting every table, and hand washing like crazy. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend GM
The food was pretty good- several of the entrees were absolutely tiny. The filet was perfectly cooked and unique in its presentation.. The desserts were all disappointing- we ordered 3 different desserts. The cheese appetizer was amazing. Bread to start was high quality. I feel like as fancy and expensive as the experience is everything needs to be perfect. Most things were better than average but sometimes it would be nice to have a chicken as a dinner choice and chocolate cake or ice cream or pie as a dessert choice. Overall fun experience but the price is about 25% high
Matt, I'm sorry to hear the desserts did not hit the mark for you. I agree, everything does need to be perfect, call ahead next time, and we'll create the dessert of your preference. Your right, you can never go wrong with chocolate. I'm sure we'll have chicken again at some point in the year, right now chef has gone with duck, which is delicious, but that Mary's Organic chicken I'm sure will make an appearance again soon. Until next time, Warm Regards and thank you for your feedback, Marc
We were at the restaurant for two hours, we were eating for about 20 minutes of those two hours, just waiting for our food. The thing that took the longest was the French onion soup. I’m not sure why it takes an hour and a half to make French onion soup… We like this restaurant, it is fun but the food honestly is not that good for the price and the food took forever. Our server was very nice and apologetic but we will probably not go back.
Kellen, I'm so sorry to hear about your long wait time. My standard for 2nd and 3rd courses vary slightly, but either way, 10-12 minutes is my set standard times (from firing the ticket) to receiving the 2nd course. Sounds like there was an issue elsewhere that I need to look into. 1.5 hrs exceeds my 12 minute standard, so please give me a call with more specifics that I might dig into. I look forward to a "do-over". Until then, Happy New Year and Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend GM 801.942.1751
I felt like the tables were too close to each other.
Toni, thank you so much for joining us and for your feed back. Next time in, please reach out to me directly and I'll do my best to find you a more secluded spot away from the action. Our alpen globes for rent on the property are a wonderful option as well for a completely private experience. Look forward to seeing you again soon. Cheers, Marc Vatsend GM 801.942.1751
Thank you for the wonderful feedback, we truly appreciate it! Until next time, Cheers, Marc Vatsend GM
We went to La Caille for a family dinner that included grandparents and kids. Our server, Meg, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and the restaurant as well as very kind. We had an amazing dinner from the fabulous warm 7 grain bread through the main course ending with scrumptious desserts. We will be back to enjoy the menu again!
Ivy, thank you so much for joining us! Yes, we think Meg is pretty amazing too. It warms my soul to see families enjoying multigenerational family dinners! We hope it becomes a tradition. Happy New Year and until next time! Cheers, Marc Vatsend GM
New Years Eve set menu was brilliant. They had so many staff members taking care of us. Rob our server was spot on knowledgeable. The paired wines arrived at the exact time the course was served and of course the property was gorgeous.
Happy New Year!! I'm so grateful and honored that you chose to celebrate this special evening with us at La Caille! I'll share your feedback with both Chef and Rob, it's much appreciated! We look forward to seeing you again for another wine dinner soon TBD! Until then, Cheers! Marc Vatsend GM
Food beter than in the past—really great!!! Everything else the usual perfection!
Miss Barbara, I can not speak of the past, as I'm a brand new manager, but I will say that Chef Billy is on fire right now, and amongst the best that I've had the pleasure of working with in California, Hawaii, and now Utah. His passion and invigoration is inspiring to the entire team. We are making daily strides towards daily excellence. We look forward to having you enjoy and experience the transformation as it unfolds. Until next time! Warm Regards and Happy New Year! Marc Vatsend GM
Absolutely amazing, staff is phenomenal. Can't wait to back again.
Amy, we can't wait to have you back again! Until next time, Cheers! Marc Vatsend GM
Food is pricey but worth it. Plan time to walk the gardens and enjoy the property.
Jane, thank you for your feedback. I have some exciting things down the pipe that will appeal not only the special occasion guests, but also those every week Wednesday guests, looking for a good craft cocktail, lite bite, with an apres ski vibe. Wish I could share more......all in good time! In the meantime, stop back in for a wine flight and charcuterie, I'd love to chat. Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend GM
Where do I even begin ?! The entire dining experience was AWFUL. Our server. Poor guy. Needs to quit and do something else. Anything else. He didn’t have a clue what he was doing.
Drinks for 4 of us took 35 minutes to be served which included a $9 beer with no chilled glass. Appetizers took another 20 minutes after waiting for drinks. Our charcuterie board for $35 was lacking any real substance. Our mussels were served with no serving spoon, extra plates or bowls for shells. We had to ask for bread.
Our salad - soup course was even worse. I have a nut allergy and asked for my salad to be nut free. Guess what I got … salad. With nuts. Plus more nuts that weren’t in the description. I didn’t touch the salad and sent it back. Guess what .. the new salad came back with the same nuts I sent back. Upon our server clearing this course a knife went flying across one of our people’s shirts. The server at this point could do nothing right except apologize. Our dinner course was the best. We were served a bouillabaisse we did not order. Twice. Our filet mignon was supposed to be medium- rare but was served medium-well. The filet wasn’t eaten.
The server never came back between courses to check on our food or if we were happy with anything. After telling him the filet was awful he disappeared. Never offered us dessert but came back with the check. I think at this point he was so defeated he wanted the train wreck to end. Needless to say on our $350 bill we left no tip. At first I was mortified to not but then after replaying the entire awful experience I didn’t. Again. He needs to find any other job. Btw… where was the manager ?! No where to be found. Shame on him.
Good morning Melissa, It sounds like we missed the mark last night. I do apologize that I couldn't make it over to your table, as I was responding to a fire on the porch. Chef did look at the returned filet and was happy with the warm red center. Mise place, steps of service, and allergies, however, we do take extremely seriously. These are certainly not my standards for service, I'd love to chat, and make it right. Warm Regards, & Happy Holiday's! Marc Vatsend General Manager 801-942-1751
Great evening. We want more amuse-bouche!
Maybe, I'll consider a mignardises at the end of the meal! Thank you for joining us, and happy holidays! Marc Vatsend General Manager
Exceptional as always. Decorated for the season the ambiance was perfect the food delicious with tasty experiences. Last but not least the staff and service fit the evening with their polite attentiveness.
Steven, Thank you for joining us! May you have a wonderful, safe, and festive holiday season! All the best and Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend General Manager
LOOK UP DIRECTIONS ON APPLE OR GOOGLE MAPS!! The link on Open Table takes you close, but to a nearby residential area.
The ride into this manor is breath taking. It’s like being dropped into a fairy land.
The manor itself is also amazing with the art on the walls and murals, the exposed Timbers and stone walls.
The chef’s offering was DEVINE!! The mushroom appetizer was quite paltry but tasty even though they forgot to deliver the potatoe crisps with it. The escargot was prepared perfectly. My sons Ossso Boca was perfections. My salmon dish was misleading in that the ingredients are lists, but what is No know it the salmon is not topped with or stuffed with lump crab, a tablespoon ( possibly generous ok my description) is blended in with the MOUND of potatoes served under the salmon. The potatoes were to tasteless to try to eat.
My son finished off the meal with a banana bread on toon which he thoroughly enjoyed. The service throughout was impeccable!!
I'm so glad that you found us, despite google! My menu changes frequently, due to sourcing fresh, seasonal, local offerings, and google's menu's are often a bit off. Yes, the Robuchon potatoes are as pure as white snow, in a Bob Ross whiskey fashion of heavenly white clouds. The only noticeable flavor should be butter.....lots of butter, but silky as satin sheets. I am so happy to see you enjoyed most everything else. Best ragards & Happy Holidays! Marc Vatsend General Manager
The food and the ambience are top notch, but you pay for what you get; Dinner for 2 cost us just short of 300 dollars, and neither my wife nor I drink alcohol. The cuisine is predominantly French, and, according to our server, the chef changes the menu almost daily. Best Lobster Bisque I’ve ever had. The service was both friendly and professional, and our server was quite knowledgeable about the menu. Touring the Chateau and the grounds provides additional value to the overall experience, especially during the holidays when Christmas lights and holiday decorations are tastefully arranged throughout the Chateau and the grounds. I would compare an evening at La Caille to having an exceptional meal while simultaneously touring either Biltmore or Hearst Castle, albeit on a much smaller scale. We will definitely return to La Caille, but we lack the means to be regulars at an establishment like this. For us, La Caille is best for special occaisions.
Good Morning Pantagruel, I wanted to let you know that we also have a wine tasting room downstairs, which we offer lite bites and wine for a more frequent reason to visit! There's also some exciting things happening down the road, for the every day experience. Look forward to seeing you again soon! Happy Holidays! Marc Vatsend General Manager
La Caille has the best staff and the best food! The atmosphere is perfect, and the grounds are beautiful! I had the best birthday ever here
Happy Belated Birthday Aaron! Humbled and grateful that you chose us to celebrate with. Happy Holidays! Marc Vatsend General Manager
We've been eating at La Caillle for a few years now and the last couple of years have really been amazing. For a while we had thought about retiring this restaurant from our list because we just didn't feel it was up to the standards for the price charged, but they have definitely turned it around. This was an amazing meal with amazing service.
Bryan, thank you so much for the feedback. We've been putting a lot of love into things lately and are only in the baby stages still, but over the next 6 months, you will most definitely notice some huge strides towards becoming one of the best restaurants in Utah. This much I can promise you. Happy New Year, and I look forward to seeing you again soon! Cheers, Marc Vatsend GM
Hi Timothy, We appreciate your kind review. Happy Holidays and may you have a wonderful new year! Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend General Manager
Rob is the best! He was so kind and took care of us on our special night ! Thank you 😊
Ashley, Agreed, Rob is the man. I'm so happy that we hit the mark with on this special night! I do remember you two, and it was a pleasure having you in. I look forward to seeing you both again! Happy Holidays and Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend General Manager
Service was beyond slow. Food was very overpriced and was marginal. It was a special birthday and nothing was done at all to celebrate-nothing. The best part of the experience was the ambiance and the waitress was good. Will not be back.
Mr Wine pro, I'm so sorry that we missed the mark, and happy belated birthday btw!! I'm constantly looking for ways to improve. We offer a beautiful Cup cake Carousel with House made Cupcakes by our Pastry Chef Alli for guests to purchase and take with. We do our best to make every guest feel special, and I humbly apologize that you did not receive that VIP treatment. I do wish you a most happy holiday season! Stop in for a wine tasting sometime, I'd love to make it right. Marc Vatsend GM
Took our daughter for dinner to celebrate her 16th birthday. The service and food were excellent. The restaurant was busier than we expected and a little noisy, but we had a great time. The wine sampler was excellent!
Good morning Natalia, Thank you so much for your kind review! And happy belated to you daughter! I hope she had a wonderful time! Yes, surprisingly, even with all that has been going on, we have been extraordinarily busy. Next time give me a call ahead of time, I'll see if I can't find a quiet nook for you somewhere. I'm glad that you enjoyed our La Caille wine! All the Best, Marc Vatsend GM 801-942-1751
I would very much recommend La Caille Restaurant to all my friends.
Curt, thank you so much for your kind review. I would not only love to see you again, but all your friends as well! Happy Holidays and Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend GM
Food was very disappointing. I ordered the duck and it was served raw with a lovely layer of cold fat. Service by Meg was exceptional. Interiors were blah… I remember the good old days of La Caille… old country French chateaux… very disappointed ☹️
Cathleen, Thank you for taking your time to express your concern about the duck. I'm so sorry we didn't have the opportunity to make it right during your visit. I'm constantly looking for ways to improve, and the massive renovation happening right now is reflective of our desire to not only bring back the old country chateau, but also to far exceed it's glory days into new un-chartered waters. I'd love to chat, stop in for tea sometime, we'll try the duck again and we'll talk. Marc Vatsend GM
We had a wonderful Sunday Brunch at La Caille and they food, service at restaurant atmosphere were perfect. The room where we ate was quiet and cozy with beautiful views of the back terrace area. The food was perfect and all 7 of the guests left full of great food and the holiday spirit. Highly recommend for a gathering of friends or family for a special occasion.
Chris, I'm thrilled to see you enjoyed brunch. This is actually one area that I want to put a lot of love, time, and attention into over the next year, so expect it to get even better! Happy Holidays and Warm Regards, Marc Vatsend GM
Gorgeous!! Everything was amazing as usual
Thank you so much for the gracious review. I hope to constantly get better and exceed "amazing" on your next visit! Happy Holidays and Warm Regards, All the best! Marc Vatsend GM
Christmas brunch has become a favorite family tradition. So much fun and a beautiful location with delicious food.
Service was weak and it was cold by the window. My wife liked her duck breast entree bit my salmon was so dry it was almost inedible. Setting it on top of bland mashed potatoes didn’t make it haute cuisine.
Great place for a special occasion dinner with family or friends or a business dinner with good clients.
A disaster really. Service was poor and uninspired. A bit of server education goes a long way… they should try it. Party of 5 sat at a table meant for 4. Main brought to table prior to first course. Osso Buco was bland. Filet ordered medium rare? No, medium plus for you! French onion soup… just sad. Zero crystal wine glasses to be found, unless you want to drink out of a stemless tumbler. Nope!
Service seemed to be performed by a bunch of new hires. Very unprofessional and confused. Bussers didn’t know what to take and when. After 1.5 hours, we still didn’t have appetizers. When we said we needed to be done by 2.5 or 3 hours, we were told it’s a relaxed dining experience. Relaxed is great, usually that means you are eating the whole time with breaks in between. Waiting 1.5 hours for the first course is just a slow. Disappointing. Great food once it arrived.
