About La Boca

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF TAPAS!

Opened in 2006 by 8 time James Beard Award Nominee, Chef James Campbell Caruso.
La Boca has the feel of a lively European wine bar, featuring an extensive selection of carefully chosen Mediterranean and South American wines. Knowledgeable and animated staff graciously guide customers to the perfect wine to complement their meals. La Boca also prides itself on being an ambassador of Spanish sherry culture, transporting its guests to Cadiz in the crisp cool flavors of Fino, or the deep fig-essence of a Pedro Ximenez.

Full to capacity almost every night since its opening, La Boca has been a hit with both locals and the world travelers that visit Santa Fe. La Boca has earned numerous awards both local and national, including the Santa Fe Reporter’s “Restaurant of the Year,” and the International Wine and Food Society’s “Award of Excellence.”

We love to start our annual visit to Santa Fe at La Boca. We see locals and visitors enjoying the food and wine. The menu always includes creative combinations of ingredients and excellent presentation of typical Spanish tapas. When we tried the same dishes at another Spanish restaurant in SF, we were disappointed. In this visit, the only dish that disappointed included some Brussel sprouts that were not quite cooked enough for our taste. Our waitress was helpful with wine suggestions and also knew when to suggest that two orders of something were appropriate for four people. When we first arrived, we were told we'd been seated in the sister restaurant, La Taberna, but when we asked to stay in this quieter, no-live-music place, she found a place for us, which we appreciated, wanting to introduce friends to the place we know and love. We will likely return before our week is up.

A very nice atmosphere and excellent service. (Sorry, you are asking for too much by forcing your customers to write a lengthy review. One sentence should have covered it. Now it's getting to be a school girls task and a bother.

Everything from the bruschetta and shrimp in olive oil as well as service was excellent. The paella, however, was mediocre at best. No saffron or taste to it. For a Spanish restaurant this is very disappointing. Go to Spain, learn how to cook it well, then come back and offer it to the customers.

We loved this restaurant. When we are back in Santa Fe, we will definitely visit again. Wished we had something like this in OKC.

We visited La Boca for New Year's Eve, which just happened to be also our wedding anniversary. As you'd expect on a night like that, it was a packed house. The service was great and the food matched. We'll definitely be dining there again.

Ate here on New Year’s Eve, and they had us seated at the bar. It was early (5:45), but they had already run out of Sangria (?!!). So, I was seriously considering leaving to go elsewhere, but the bartender came up with some concoction that made a decent substitute for sangria, so we stayed. The tapas were good (we ordered bruschetta and dates), but we’ve had better paella (lots of tomato and paprika, not much other flavor, and the mussels were gritty!). There were some gentlemen playing flamenco when we arrived, but it was towards the end of their set, and we left just before they started again. Overall, if the bartender hadn’t gone above and beyond, it would have been a disappointing night (and not very good way to ring out the old year!)

Whereas the food and selections were impressive, the bread served both initially and with the sandwich was disappointing. There are several bakeries in Santa Fe that offer much better quality bread, specifically the Sage Bake House for example. We strongly recommend that you consider up-grading the quality of the bread served.

Anniversary night and we got moved to the sister restaurant where there was loud music so not much of a romantic night.

Disappointed we didn't get to eat in the restaurant we made the reservation for.

Ordered several taps and a bottle of wine. Some of the items were pretty good, but the lamp chops should be an embarrassment to the place. They were taste but small, and 3 chops for $38 was ridiculous. I don't mind paying for what I want, but La Boca felt me feeling ripped off.

La Boca was recommended by our culinary tour guide, so we decided to give it a try. The food was superb. Two of us had the paella, which was delicious. The other diner had 2 tapas, both of which he loved. The service was excellent, friendly, but not intrusive. We'd definitely recommend and go back there.

My wife and I always include a dinner at La Boca when we visit Santa Fe. It has been one of our favorite dining experiences for years. During our most recent visit it was unfortunately obvious that, despite memorable food, the service continues to trend downward. Either management is not paying attention to what is happening on the floor or La Boca's popularity is beginning to get the best of them.

La Boca is a staple in the Santa Fe dining scene. Spanish tapas, Spanish tapas and a fun atmosphere makes for a delicious and fun evening. We have been here several times and have thoroughly enjoyed each time. Some favorites include the grilled artichokes with goat cheese, the stuffed piquillo peppers, the bacon wrapped dates, and the flat iron steak. Finish with a glass of PX Sherry or late harvest Malbec.

La Boca always was one of my favorite restaurants, because they used to offer great vegetarian/vegan options. Now it is very limited. No more Hummus which is a good protein source for people who prefer a plant-based diet. However even the last Hummus they had on their menu (no longer available) was made with butter (a dairy product). They offer to adjust their meals, but you really don’t know exactly what you will be getting. I had an eggplant dish (similar to Baba Ganoush) which was okay, not outstanding.
The menu online is the old menu, not the current one. If you are a Vegan or mostly on a plant based diet I can no longer recommend La Boca.

La Boca for dinner - amazing Spanish tapas! Opened in 2006 by 8-time James Beard Award Nominee, Chef James Campbell Caruso. We shared the Jamon Serrano ham from the sierra, dry cured Spanish ham ~ imported; Manchego Sheep's milk cheese from la Mancha region of Spain, Membrillo; Bacon Wrapped Dates Stuffed with marcona almond, cabrales dipping sauce and pomegranate molasses; Moroccan lamb stew with tomatoes, figs, olives and Israeli couscous salad; Romero Farms Beet Salad with pickled onions, citrus, toasted pepitas, pomegranate seeds, queso Leonora and citrus pomegranate glaze; Arroz Cremosa with crab, Idiazabal, red peppers and parsley oil; Tacos de la Boca with sautéed wild caught shrimp and morcilla, mango cucumber salad and pimenton agri-dulce. Service is excellent, room is pretty and not noisy despite being packed and we had such a great Spanish guitarist playing amazing music. What a treat!

My husband and I had dinner there recently with another couple. We were seated in the restaurant down the alley. There was a couple playing VERY loud live music just next to our table. This made it hard for us to hear each other talk. We found the food okay, nothing special.

Food as always was excellent. Service was painfully slow without any explanation or apology, and we arrived well in advance of the later arriving crowd. We ordered 5 shared small plates. The first arrived fairly soon; the second arrived after a noticeable delay; plates 3 and 4 arrived together more than 30 minutes later. Our waitress did not seem concerned or even aware that we were waiting an unacceptable period of time. Food deliveries seemed to be coming from the kitchen with regularity so we assume the problem was an inattentive and disorganized server. The couple next to us arrived 15 minutes after we did and departed 15 minutes before us; they had a different server. We have dined at LaBoca perhaps 20 times and have never had a service problem before this visit; we hope it was an anomaly and will not occur again.

La Boca HAD been a top notch in my book. I simply love the cozy feel and the buzzing ambiance, not to mention the fabulous food. But here's what they did.
I booked 2 days ahead of time for a 7:15 pm reservation on a Saturday for 4 people at La Boca. We were treating another couple to dinner and they were from out of state (we live in Albuquerque). La Boca called me on the phone Friday, the day before, to confirm. But when we showed up Saturday, the hostess assertively stated "we have you seated at La Boca Taverna, the location just behind here." She was so direct and matter-of-fact that before I could even register what they had done, we had walked around the block to the back side, to a completely DIFFERENT restaurant, simply named - La Boca Taverna.
Sure they share the same kitchen, but come on. The atmosphere is a huge part of a restaurant's appeal. This other restaurant was nearly empty (I think there were 6 other people there) and it was a bit cold. I had eaten there before, and it is perfectly fine but it is NOT the La Boca that you call 3 days ahead of time to book!
I didn't want to make a scene, but if I had to do it again .... I would have made a scene. I would have pushed back when we were told our table was not even in THIS restaurant.
I felt duped.
And I later realized that the hostess was firm with me because she was moving us quickly. And once she realized we were fine with moving, she told me that next time I book online, I need to specify in the notes to the restaurant that I want to be in the La Boca main restaurant.

Sorry, La Boca. This is bad form.
