La Bise was one of our top dining experiences. The service was perfect. Every dish was delectable with beautiful and creative presentation. The lobster appetizer paired perfectly with the pineapple. The pork belly was crisp and melted in your mouth. The salmon coulibiac was amazing - the puff pasty was flaky and buttery, the herbed riced accentuated the tender salmon. I can’t say enough about the chicken. It is prepared sous vide to start and then seared and was the most tender, flavorful chicken I’ve ever tasted. I never order chicken but I’ll be ordering it the next time we go. And there will definitely be a next time.
Absolutely amazing! Beautiful dining room, delicious food, attentive service.
This was our second visit to la Bose since June. Each time everything was excellent. The Dover sole was delicious as was the coulibiac salmon. We especially enjoyed the creative salad classique and the gougeres.
Every dishes we ordered was delicious. Quality of the food was outstanding. Oh and the dessert, coffee souffle, a must try.
Dinner at La Bise feels special. From the moment you enter and are welcomed to the beautiful dining room, you know it will be different and wonderful. The service is impeccable from beginning to end. Most importantly, the Chef is creating fabulously delicious dishes from the pork belly appetizer to the Salad Classique with perfectly ripe figs to the breads and butter, including a delightful tomato creation. We both loved our entrées, including a delectable Dover sole that was perfectly seared and gently wrapped around a shrimp mousseline that complimented the fish to perfection. The King Salmon in puff pastry was fabulous and cooked to perfection. Desserts are equally wonderful including the authentic Paris Brest and chocolate coconut tart. The French press coffee was a perfect conclusion. The wine list is excellent and fun to explore with La Bise’s sommelier. Enjoy a wonderfully special evening in Paris any night of the week.
The setting is now and has always been my one of favorites in DC. Ashook did it again! He took his beloved Oval Room from years gone by and reinvented it into a true touch of Paris. The fennel, fig and greens salad was not only delicious, the presentation was extraordinary! The sole was perfectly cooked and stuffed with spinach in a sauce that was light and perfectly complimented the fish. We even made a big deal over the butter—tomato and herb! I wanted to put it in my purse! Congratulations to the La Bise team. This is truly fantastic.
The food was badly over salted and luke warm. Very disappointing.
Wonderful food and terrific service. Dinner here was a real treat and the chef BLENDS the food with real care. I look forward to returning.
Certainly one of the very best French restaurants on the planet!
Beautiful food, wine, service
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The presentation was very nice and the flavors exquisite. Service was good but could better. Highly recommend!
I love to try new restaurants and do it often, however I have never taken the time to write a review. The food at La Bise was some of the best I have ever had. The steak tartare was absolutely the best I have ever had and the salmon was wonderful. This was an excellent experience from start to finish. If I lived in DC, I would be a regular here
La Bise is an exceptional restaurant with amazing food and a great ambiance. I can’t wait to go back!
Pork loin was not evenly cooked and raw inside. Steak was presented as medium to medium rare but was rare. Avocado appetizer was superb. Risotto was excellent. Texture of cheesecake was odd.
Great restaurant. Service is warm and friendly, the food outstanding. Portions are perfectly sized. The wine list is short but choice. My only complaint--and it isn't much of one--is that I wish the menu were longer so we go often and explore just how good the kitchen is.
Flawless French- style food and superb value.
La Bise has become a go-to for a delicious and delightful evening. Perfection!
A perfect night at a perfect restaurant. When I used open table I requested outside seating, but our forever wrong weather men predicted rain. I called and changed to inside. The night was perfect weather. Upon arrival I asked if we could eat outside and it “was no problem.” I thought we were in Paris, with a beautiful table, umbrellas, and surrounded by gorgeous flowers. We ordered a Manhattan and a Bombay Safire martini. Both were perfect. As an appetizer I had squid, cooked perfectly and tender to the fork. My partner had pork belly which was like melted butter, and said it was beyond excellent. For mains, I ordered the halibut dusted with crumbs (the kind escape me) and my partner ordered duck breast, medium rare. Perfectly done. A gratis slice of birthday cake for my partner and I had the Carmel tart. We finished with the impossible to get anywhere a HOT (temp) cappuccinos
The service was top notch notwithstanding the trouble finding restaurant staff.
What a great night!
We were in DC and celebrating a birthday dinner. The general manager greeted us at our table. Every course was a work of art. We shared a salad and they even split it and presented each plate with attention to every detail. The fois and the duck breast brought back fond memories of the best times of my years in Paris. We were very impressed with everything.
Excellent service, food and ambiance. All in our party were extremely happy
Enjoyed our first visit at La Bise. We had a lovely outdoor table. Ambience was upscale. Service was outstanding and attentive. Food was excellent, especially the pork loin entree. Cocktails were well executed and the wine list was extensive.
Great food, great service, great wine. Everything perfect.
Food was mediocre- the waiter was rushing to kick us out and was very impatient.
You wouldn’t know this was a new restaurant. Service and food were both top notch. No kinks or growing pains here.
Excellent food and service and attractive ambience.
Entire evening spoiled by nearby table of noisy boozers making our own conversation almost impossible. Moving apparently not in the cards. Would go again in the hope that reasonable quiet is the norm.
Service was great minus the bar drinks that literally took 25 minutes to get each round to come to our table. We ordered desserts and after dinner drinks and out drinks came out way after our desserts for example. Food was great. Decor was amazing.
The Oval Room was one of my favorite restaurants in DC. La Bise opened in the same space. A big promise, which was kept and then some. What an amazing restaurant, worthy of any superlative. I cannot wait to come back.
Portions very small. The “challah” encrusted halibut had the tiniest bit of crust on one side, barely even knew it was there. Halibut over cooked. The gougeres were supposed to have this creamy cheese filling, there was maybe a 1/16 of a teaspoon of filling in each. The coffee sufflee was small so didn’t really have mouth feel of soufflé. Duck dish and squid very very small portion . Halibut portion was large. Overall very disappointing .
Absolutely lovely restaurant. Beautiful and delicious food, incredible, attentive and accommodating service, eclectic and reasonable wine list. Will add to the list of “must go” when ever in DC.
Great food and service! Every single aspect of our dinner was fantastic. The food and service were impeccable and I wish we had time to go back for another meal before we leave. Highly recommend!
Thanks also for the delicious Anniversary dessert.
A wonderful early dinner with friends prior to attending an Artists opening show. Great food and the sidewalk seating was very pleasant.
Fantastic food and service! Very enjoyable. Will definitely go back.
I enjoy going out with my mother and trying new places, and we were both very happy with our experience at La Bise. The ambience of the restaurant is great; it really feels like you are in a nice place -- it's clear from how it is set up that the people running it know what they are doing. The wine list was a very manageable size, but well-organized, with a good diversity of selections, and very reasonable pricing. It does not try to do too much, and nearly every item I would have considered ordering. The dinner menu is likewise good, with very nice selections available, and considering the location and overall pricing in the DC market, it was very, very reasonably priced for what we had. The dishes themselves were artful and very good. The only real complaints I could offer were that a few of the dishes had too much salt, a common failing, and I wasn't thrilled with the dessert offerings. I am likely kind of a jerk about this, but I was really hoping for a Creme Brulee! Service was very nice and professional throughout, and they clearly care about the success of their restaurant. Bottom line: for a great three course meal, in a nice space with good service, we walked away for about $125/person after tax. To me, that is a steal in this market. A very big thumbs-up for La Bise.
Great food and attentive service
La Bise provides a welcoming and soothing patio ambience and sophisticated cooking, as well as excellent service. The main courses are outstanding. Portions are a bit small, particularly on the appetizer menu. This time, the first course (tuna crudo) was overwhelmed with soy and ginger sauce, nothing at all subtle.
But I recommend La Bise.
The pork dish was a big letdown
Unique food presentation, with French food with some Indian influence. Dessert was particularly interesting and good.
Had great expectations.. Beautiful outdoor ambiance. Took 90 minutes to get our main course, which was luke warm when it arrived Surly waiter, didn't to think we were worthy of serving. Read other reviews. Hope other diners had a better experience.
Superb food, beautiful wines, excellent service, jovial atmosphere. We will return!
Everything was first rate - it’s a lovely menu, executed well.
Service was attentive but not overly.
Great spot h fun or a relaxing evening
