It was the most eventful dining experience I had in CLT and I had someone delivered me the wrong entrée somewhere else when I was dining by myself. "Eventful" is probably not what one wants at an establishment called La Belle Helene.
I got to the restaurant 21 minutes early because I got hungry. The hostess paused and had to look for a table for just long enough to make me feel like my early presence was unwelcome. She also had to ask me whether I was waiting for someone when my reservation was only for one person.
I had to go to the restroom after I got to my table. When I came back, I waited probably 10 minutes before a waiter who doesn't usually work my table brought me water. The waiter was probably then told that he had to cover my table because he was waiter for the rest of the night (poor guy was already managing a birthday party with 8 or so people before I even set foot in there.
Then the food runner brought me both my chilled shrimp cocktail and my hot escargot at the same time. I suppose this December's weather has been hot and cold randomly, so it made a lot of sense.
Finally, when I was about to leave, I asked the hostess whether they validate the parking deck from across the street. The hostess referred me to the valet outside (unusual setup, because as fate would have it, the valet was away locating someone's card when I had to leave). The valet then told me usually the hostess does the validation (now that is just blatantly poor management).
Food was really good though.
Awesome brunch! Can’t wait to revisit for dinner!
Hannah was a great waitress!
This is such a beautiful place and we’re fortunate to have such a nice restaurant in Charlotte. Food and service were great!
Full restaurant due to performance of The Nutcracker at the Belk Theater. Thus, noises environment but able to converse with table mates. The escargot app had minimal garlic butter. The small sea bass filet took 1 hr to arrive and the skin was done but wrinkled. The white wine sauce was tasty, but too many pearl onions compared to other vegetables medley. The French cream cheese, raspberry dessert, in the form of the nutcracker mouse was delightful with a cup of black coffee. Server Quinn, “the Beatles MIGHTY” was terrific and training Jessica who also was terrific.
A beautiful place, very good service. A limited menu however and portions were small to moderate. Good French cuisine.
Very limited menu. Some servers presented themselves as annoyed or irritated when asked questions about the menu. Messed up quite a few times and offered no apologies or anything. Wasn’t terrible but expected more. Felt like a bother to ask for the server and also like my money wasn’t spent on things I actually wanted since it was mainly salads and sandwiches.
I went for lunch with my daughter in law and her mother. It is still the most beautiful restaurant in Charlotte and I want to love it. Yet every time I go(3 times since reopening) the food just doesn't equal the ambience.
2 salads were ordered yesterday and there was only iceberg lettuce in the bowl and very little of that. The Croque Monsieur was not sufficiently warm and the ham was very dry.
The service was friendly and helpful. I will go back one more time and hope for better.
Two of us received our food while the third person in our group waited several minutes to receive theirs. The crepes we ordered to start came after we had finished our meal. My daughter asked for jam which came after she had eaten her meal but we were still charged for it. Service was extremely slow. The atmosphere is amazing but be prepared to wait
For the price the food was not great. Several of the dishes were obviously frozen. The bread was very hard. The only thing would definitely recommend is the stack of crêpes and French onion soup.
Wonderful ambience, food was amazing and the service superb. Will definitely come back! Brunch was a hit!
Loved the ambiance, the food and the service. One of the best restaurants overall in Charlotte. My only suggestion is that they dim the lights at dinner time. It was very bright. Last time I was there I heard someone suggesting the same and they said that they had forgotten to do so. But it was very bright this time too.
Easy to book and Easy to get to. Lovely staff. Simple lunch menu but good food. Love the decor!
Lovely and delicious!
My family and I went for the Thanksgiving pre-fixe dinner. The ambiance is great and the place is beautiful. Staff was working very hard. However, we were sat 30 minutes late. Because of this, we were one of the last tables there and felt like we were eating while staff was cleaning around us. There were only 2/3 options for each course which was fine, but, they were out of one dish for each course so we didn’t even have a choice. We wouldn’t have went for a pre fixe experience if that was going to be the case. Would like go back because of the kind service and beautiful environment, but hesitant because of this experience. It’s much to pricey to not get what you paid for…
Thanksgiving Fixed Price Meal. Overall a bit disappointed. Nearly hour wait even with reservation. Late in evening, out of several things. No soup. Salad was just leaves/dressing. Turkey meal wasn’t a lot for value. All lukewarm white meat. (Menu said white/dark). Service was the only aspect that shined and appreciate them working a holiday.
Made a reservation over 1 month in advance for Thanksgiving meal. Arrived on time for reservation and had to wait 30 minutes for table. Hostess stated that people were staying longer than expected and that we could have seat at bar and get drink. We sat at bar for 15 minutes before we could even get a drink. Seemed like the were accepting walk ins off the street and prioritizing them before people with reservations. Food was mediocre, service was poor. Would not recommend.
Food was tasty and well prepared. This was Thanksgiving dinner and it was filled with traditional foods. There were also less traditional and vegetarian options. They were very busy and I think somewhat over-estimated their capacity; had a couple of hiccups in seating and service. Also requested a separate tip for the kitchen, which I found odd. But overall, can be recommended.
Corinne S. was the best! Food, service and atmosphere also wonderful. It’s a joy to be able to have an audible conversation in a lovely restaurant.
The food is fantastic and the service is superb. Yes the food is overpriced. However the ambience and the taste of the food pretty much justifies it.
It was Thanksgiving... service was slow due to bar; wine parings were not timely with courses. Some courses were excellent first and third. Main dishes were ok. sides were cold, porcetta was overly fatty. gnocchi was average.
Do not bring medically fragile people to this restaurant. Thanksgiving was our second time at La Belle Helene, and it was (understandably) not as good as the first time. The plants need watering, and the flower arrangements were thin and sad. Make or break? No. Indicative of struggling? Yes. We came 30 minutes before our reservation, and said we could wait or not, as suited them. We were politely and quickly seated. Then ignored. One of the front house staff took pity on us and brought us water and took our drink order. We had the soup and also the salad. Outstanding. We had the porchetta and also the turkey. Loved both. Loved our pre meal cocktails, loved the wine. After dinner we had The Delphi (smoked bourbon) that was the worst I've ever had. Yuck. Pure butane. I ordered the $12 sparkling wine and was served and charged for the $25 champagne. Dessert was just ok. There was no sending anything back or getting anything adjusted, it was honestly all they could do to get us served. That being said, we still tipped generously AND tipped the kitchen separately. Go with the program, people. You have to recognize that these people are working on a holiday for you, so pony up and be grateful. If I don't go back, it would be because not only are they not enforcing the mask mandate, there isn't even a sign posted. Almost no masks on customers, less than half of the staff masked. Unbelievable as we approach 800K dead in this country. I don't expect to encounter covid denying in a high end establishment. When you don't enforce the mask mandate, I wonder if you enforce Health Dept rules at all.
Very disrespectful of the staff, customers, and city.
Excellent restaurant if you want to spend a good time for a special celebration.
The decor is very pretty, we loved the long bar. We really appreciated that they were open for Thanksgiving, but ran into a few hiccups. Our server was nice, but we didn't see him much and the service was slow. This is most likely the cause of reservation issues later in the day. We all ordered the turkey dinner, but my plate had sour turkey on it. It tasted as though the turkey had gone bad and would have made me sick if I continued eating it. This was very odd since everyone else's turkey at the table was fine (although flavorless). Regardless, I had to send mine back for a replacement. We felt the temperature of the food was almost cold. The gravy was flavorful but very watery. The pureed potatoes were congealed on the plate and must have been there for a long while. The rolls, salad, mushroom soup and green beans were good. The pumpkin pound cake was really pretty but not very tasty. Not even sure how it could be considered a pound cake. We enjoyed the pecan dessert, very delicious. Overall, we were not impressed (especially for the price) and most likely won't be back.
It was Thanksgiving so the restaurant was busy but the food was mediocre at best and the service was subpar for a restaurant that charges these prices. The turkey portion was small and, for one of us, it was the first carving, so lots of skin, not that much meat. Sides were cold so the mashed potatoes became hard. Desserts were really bad. Flavorless and seemed not fresh. One seemed to be a deconstructed pecan pie that simply didn't work. We had to ask more than 3 times for the wine to be served. Each time the server apologized and promised she would get right on it but she didn't. I watched. She never approached the bar.
We also felt rushed through the meal. The next course arrived before we were finished with the previous one and they were constantly trying to take our plates before we were finished.
I had been to this restaurant under previous ownership. Don't think I'll be back. Unfortunate because the dining room is beautiful.
Beautiful space. The food was very good! We went for the Thanksgiving Prix Fixe menu and enjoyed it. We definitely have to come back and try the actual menu.
We found it very odd the mask mandate is not enforced in this restaurant. Most servers and patrons were without masks. That said, food was very good. Server was very nice but also very busy.
Our waitress, Whitney L. was a complete joy. She was on point, friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
The escargot appetizer was dry and disappointing. HOWEVER, hands down the duck l'orange for 2 was the was the best we've ever had. Mom and I are about to crush the leftovers here in our hotel room!
The pecan ice cream dessert was so good that I lack the words to describe how excellent it tasted in our mouths. Splendid... Perfect... Orgasmic?! Worth every penny.
We enjoyed three courses a few wines and the Thanksgiving parade moving by the windows. It was almost magical.
Good take on a Paris Bistro with a modern twist, very well done lovely atmosphere, good food and service.
Great for a date or celebration, they have celebration rooms that look lovely too, certainly worth the visit.
Coffee was cold. Waitress was helpful and attentive but we had to wait on everything that was out of her control. We could recommend if they fix the problems
We were very early for reservation, they let us sit at bar. Server offered to let us order there. Food was delicious, service excellent. Highly recommended.
We were enroute to a different place and realized that the wait was unreasonable. I opened the Open Table app, and realized that La Belle was nearby with a reservation that was available within a few minutes. What a delightful serendipity! Everything about our brunch was perfect - the service, the ambience, the food, and especially the little touches like the warm madeleines with my mimosa and the macaroon with my coffee. We are already planning our next trip to Charlotte, and La Belle is definitely on the agenda.
Thanks, Bess! Looking forward to having you back in again soon.
Had to wait for regular coffee to be brewed. Was not asked for refill.
Understand that it was busy. The tomato soup was very good. Could use smaller portion options.
Restaurant was very beautiful. Very busy.
I was disappointed in the dish I ordered. I had the Croque Monsieur. It was all thick bread and a very little thin slice of ham with heavy cream sauce on top. No sides with any dish. I ordered a side of hash browns that was a small triangle of brick hard potatoes. The service was good. It was a surprise Birthday brunch for 6. I paid $300 total. I will not be back. The bill also asks for tip for kitchen too (optional).
Not worth hype and price.
Excellent quality of food and service. Great coffee as well!
I am not sure if there is any value to making a reservation. We made a reservation far ahead of time and specified it was for a birthday. We arrived a few minutes before our scheduled reservation time and we were told that it would be a few minutes. After 45 minutes of watching other groups get seated who arrived later we began to remind the hostess that we were still waiting. We finally were seated one hour after our reservation time. The hostess was perfunctorily apologetic and promised that a manager would be by to talk to us. No manager ever appeared and there was no indication that anybody was aware that we were celebrating a birthday.
It was twenty five more minutes before a server appeared. In the interim we had not even been offered water. We had to flag down somebody to get the candle on our table lit. The server was new but she was personable and she tried hard despite struggling to open a bottle of wine.
On average, the food was ok, but the appetizer, which should have been warm had parts that were ice cold and parts that burned your mouth. My fish was excellent but my wife’s duck was a disappointment. By the time we got to dessert, the items we wanted were sold out so we passed on dessert. We probably will not return.
The service was horrible from having to wait an unreasonable amount of time for our table to an even more unreasonable amount of time for our food. The taste of the food was mediocre. Very disappointed and will not be going back.
After arriving 5 min before reservation we were seated immediately. Then 15 minutes before someone arrived at the table. When she did, she indicated she would just start us out and server would follow shortly. We then saw her interact with said server who just shrugged and indicated to her he was “too busy.” When she did return she did a great job. In fact she saved us from just getting up and leaving.
My friends ordered the quiche and I enjoyed the fruit crepes.
All of us were so pleased with the food.
The decor and ambiance were special
