The original La Belle Helene wasn't able to recover from the pandemic, but was fortunately resurrected with a new ownership team. Overall ambiance and service is terrific. The menu is modified from the original setup, but is still varied and delicious.
Waited 45 minutes despite having a reservation. Underseasoned food. Ambience was great though
Welcome and. Bar we’re both great. The service we received at our table was quite poor. Waiter was inattentive and after our food order was placed, he disappeared until we asked him for the check.
Food was great but the service was lacking a bit. The restaurant ambiance was great along with the food.
Brunch was amazing!
New brunch menu was delicious and perfectly executed.
What a lovely meal/experience! This was our first time dining here. Friendly, knowledgeable server, Kaitlyn. Great selection, delicious food. Beautiful restaurant!
From The hostess to Jessica our server the experience was excellent. We ate the shared duck meal and the pinot noir recommended by Jessica was perfect. Finished with your lemon desert and a cappuccino and decaf tea.
Start to finish A+
The duck for 2 was superb and the service was great!
Reservation was smooth. Host greeted us at station. Our table was in a semicircular booth, a better choice and we appreciate it. Service: We were called "guys" 13 times during the evening. "Guys" is the way to enforce the most informal social interaction. It is graceless, genderless, and without status. We are not clients, customers, guests, we are guys. One of us was a female, most certainly ineligible to be a guy. I asked the server about the number of "guys" interactions and she mumbled an excuse and continued the pattern. The "French" style was lacking. The bread plates were mismatched, one with the La Belle Helene logo on the front and mark from a French porcelainerie on the back. The rest of the china was simple white from China. Were they working through the last bits of the original tableware? A French bistro or restaurant is known by its bread and house wine. The bread offered was two small cheese puffs. No french bread. I ordered a French Crémant sparkling bottle. The server brought it and asked me how to pronounce the name. I asked it there was a sommelier and she said yes but not working this evening. The sommelier must educate the house staff about the house selections (Crémant was one) as house wines are how to judge the business. The sommelier can handle the rest of the list, if he were working. Server admitted she knew nothing about wine. This is a sommelier failure. The menu has some French language failures. For example my dessert choice was listed as a petit gateaux. This suggests that there are more than one gateau (cake). The server explained this was a single as I was sure it was. I had the duck confit. It was not well served by being held on the pass line under heat lamps. I could see seven more under the lamps from my seat, waiting. My partner had Boeuf Bourguignon, her favorite. We agreed that if there was wine in the preparation it had disappeared some time ago. Cloth napkins and kraft paper table covering gave an awkward clash.
When friend asked about a wine to buy after waitress talked to manager the response back to us was to Google it.
We loved our first time at this restaurant. We had the escargot and steak tartare as appetizers which were fantastic
The duck was really good
The service was very slow, the room was very loud, the wine was stale, the food gave me a stomach ache.
Amazing. Everything was beautiful and tasteful.
Used to go to this restaurant all the time - it was enjoyable. Having purchased by another operator, this restaurant has lost the food and service that made the old restaurant enjoyable.
Waited about 20 minutes for a bottle of champagne. The overall experience took all of the fun out of the evening. Very average food and poor service. The gougers which used to be a delightful cheesy, warm treat, treat were cold, unappetizing and, oozed some kind of cheese? The hair at the bottom of my salad was a real treat too!
Nothing better than paying for service and getting both inexperience and attitude from different folks serving us. Will not go back.
We dined at La Belle Helen during restaurant week and had a great experience! The service was on the slower side, but the restaurant was packed so we were understanding. The drinks are strong and the food is delicious. Make sure to wear light clothes - it was hot in there!
I never usually write a review but this restaurant definitely deserves it ! This restaurant was excellent! My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant as French cuisine (Bistro type) is one of our favorites . We’re originally from the Washington DC area and have a couple of favorites there but didn’t have any go to restaurants here until now! We decided to try La Belle Helene for Queen’s Feast and we were happy we did. The ambiance was beautiful. The hostesses were very friendly. Our waiter (I wish I could remember his name) was Excellent! He was very nice and professional and never did we have to wait long for anything even as busy as he was. Finally the food was delicious! We can’t wait to go back !
Service was excellent! Cocktails excellent!! Tomato Bisque, Steak Frite, Beef Tartare, Cheese Puffs delicious!I love Escargot & was very disappointed. No butter & garlice that I usually dip the bread in. Also the put some type of little biscuit on top that was dry & tought. I got the Sea Bass & did not like the flavor. I loved the artichokes in the dish but did not pair well with the Sea Bass. I will try this restaurant again but will not order the things I did not like.
You could sense the excellence walking through the door. Collin was professional and friendly adding to the experience. Had the QF menu starting with the pork pate, pickled green tomato, and fresh brown seeded, horseradish country mustard with 3 toasts. The garlic butter 1/2 chicken was juicy and tasty with sauteed spinach and perfect creamy French Mash with accompanying au jus. The chefs accompanying wine selection, chardonnay, Bordeaux and after dinner liquor were perfect. Dessert of a pre-prepared apple tartlette lost its crispness. The final bills for 3 couples each needed explanation/correction.
Very disappointed. The waiter was extremely rude, spilled my champagne all over the table and didn’t apologize or clean it up. The steak was awful- a cheap gristly cut like stew meat. The food improperly Seasoned. Was not French by any means. I expected better from new owners but prefer the old owners and staff.
This place was awesome, the food was good, and Rudy our server was great!
Restaurant is beautiful - waitstaff is new and service was very slow. 10 mins or more for a glass of wine.
$125 seafood tower was “ok”. Contained Raw shrimp.
Meals were very good except spinach which had large chucks of garlic and was inedible
Not sure about extra tip line for kitchen staff. We ended up leaving probably about a 35% tip combined. My guess is the waitstaff will get lesser tips as some struggle with overall tip amount and what to leave.
We visited this restaurant before Covid and the mgmt change - and sorry to say it was better than. I am however aware that many restaurants are struggling with sufficient staff and training.
Still beautiful location. Service was good and they were very busy on Saturday night. However food was mediocre at best. We both had the restaurant menu selecting different items but nothing more than you find at a chain restaurant- except for the price.
We had an awesome evening with our friends. We all enjoyed the food & the service!
Lovely ambience. Steak was rough. Dessert needed to be slightly warmed.
The food was okay at best compared to other nice restaurants. The server barely spoke with us but it is restaurant week so I get that they would be very busy. The hostesses were really nice though. The ambience and the way the restaurant looks was fantastic though.
beautiful atmosphere, pleasant, professional, personable waitress...I think her name was Michelle. My husband loved the experience, the food, a d the wine paring. will come back with friends.
Delicious and lovely atmosphere
We went during restaurant week and ordered off of the restaurant week menu. Food was fresh and delicious. Francesca was our server and did an excellent job of helping us with our selections and explaining the wine when it arrived. It was noisy in the restaurant but we were able to easily carry on a conversation at the table giving it a pleasant bustling atmosphere.
It was an enjoyable evening, but the service wasn’t up to standards for the price point.
Excellent food...will go again. Great date night restaurant
Great place for any occasion. Can’t wait to go back with family.
A great meal and evening. We will be back and even hoping to host a holiday party.
The music was way too loud (Friday, July 23 during dinner). Sometimes difficult to hear the other folks at our four-top. Also difficult to hear our server. One of the joys of dining with friends is being able to have a conversation without raising your voice.
And if you're going to play music why not feature French performers like Edith Piaf or others? A restaurant as classy as La Belle Helene needs classy background music, not the grating noise we were subjected to.
We probably will recommend La Belle Helene to friends but we'll warn them about the music. If the noise level is as bad as it was Friday night we'll have to consider other options for dining.
Great Service, Good Food! Fun Evening!
It is evident that everyone was working as a team. Everyone was so personable - especially the young woman working as the restroom attendant. She is a keeper!! So polite and easy to talk to - Wish I had been able to tip her. Even though it was Restaurant Week we never felt rushed. Thank you!
It was perfect in everything
In my opinion, it's the most beautiful restaurant in Charlotte. You almost feel like you're in Paris. The food is classic French, which is very well done. Service is top-notch.
Ate here during restaurant week. Terrific food, great service, a tad noisy but that's because they were full! We will be back!
We went during restaurant week, so I know things were hectic. The food was decent, but we paid for the enhanced wine pairing, and each glass always arrived just as we were finishing the course- which kind of defeated the purpose. I think we’d go again and give them another chance, but not during restaurant week.
Made a reservation 20 days in advance and still waited 57 minutes for a table. The restaurant seemed overbooked (management issue) and understaffed. Our waiter never spoke to us except to take our order. I will not return as there are too many wonderful clt restaurants to be paying $$$ for poor customer service and experience.
