La Bande, in San Francisco Proper’s restored 1908 flatiron on Market Street, is a Cal-Med aperitif and tapas bar on the ground floor adjacent to Villon restaurant-bar, with both an inspired indoor space and outdoor patio. The outdoor space is reminiscent of a European cafe and much like the rooftop bar, Charmaine’s, celebrates the hotel’s Market Street location.

La Bande focuses on gourmet tapas and Galician conservas inspired by the Mediterranean coast, the streets of Barcelona and La Boqueria Market, curated and prepared by acclaimed Executive Chef Jason Fox, as well as craft aperitif cocktails and a vermouth program by BVHospitality, notable old-world wines, European draft beers and a retail section boasting a selection of imported European goods. The food is great here - amazing attention to detail, and really thoughtful presentation. I love the interior design as well, with the beautiful green tile; it makes you feel like you've stepped into a secret hideaway.

La Bande is very loud but very well located for a show at the Orpheum. We had a 5:45 reservation and just barely made the 7:30 show because the service was so slow. The food was quite good, especially the bread (from Arsicault) and the crispy potatoes. Like life, this place has some good points and some not-so-good points.

We went before attending theater at the Orpheum. The only issue is walking through a square that is mainly populated with the unhoused, so getting there is scenic… Once at the restaurant, you don’t even realize where you are and the ambience and food were excellent!! It’s Tapas so 4 of us got to sample a bunch of items! Everything was delicious!! Would definitely go back before or after theater.

The food was creative and fresh. Drinks also. Perfect for a pre-show dinner and really enjoyed El Menu del Dia. The chefs tapas selections were generous and varied. My favorite were the gambas. Also enjoyed the Negroni on draft and the Spanish wine from my favorite region, Ribera del Duero. Definitely will return and share with friends.

Excellent service, can’t remember The tall gentleman’s name. New cocktails were great, appreciated the new additions. Beans soup, new veggie stew sand squid was good. Bread fabulous from local baker!!

We always enjoy tapas. We enjoyed our dinner, but found the portions to be small, including the wine pours. We also would have like more vegetable offerings.

Hands down the best garlic shrimp I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of shrimp in my life. It was so fresh, salted to perfection, cooked just long enough and out to our table hot. The bread is outstanding, tuna belly the bomb, crispy potatoes excellent. Loved the squash and sunchoke although not the star of the night. The iberico ham was good, but not my favorite dish. Service was speedy and attentive. We went before a show at the Warfield and would go back

We had reservations right when they opened- so we got there 5 minutes early- could not determine where the entrance was- (It was blocked by metal half walls and tall plants- no signage at all- so we walked around the building to the entrance to the hotel lobby- the door person came out and said there was no entrance from within the hotel and to walk further around and enter through Charmaine’s entrance. The door person at the Charmaine’s line and entrance said to walk aroun the build and would ‘see the entrance’. walked around again, got back to the lobby, who finally let us in and led us down long hallway to the entrance from within the hotel..ugh- needless to say, this colored our initial opinion. I mean how hard is it to educate your employees with the correct info/directions? and to have signage? AMbiance cute outdoors, super kind server, most of the items(tapas) were good, the homemade garlic aioli and hot sauce were amazing- some were a miss- the pork shoulder and beans(like soup-not shareable)the potatoes were boring

La Bande is a tapas restaurant in the Proper Hotel on Market St. It's about a block from the Civic Center BART station and a block and a half from the Golden Gate Theatre, a perfect venue for a light dinner before a show. The Garlic Shrimp is my favorite. My husband really likes the white beans and pork shoulder. They have an excellent selection of wines, beer, and mixed drinks.

Good place to drink. Do not eat here if you have an appetite. Very overpriced for the amount of food given. You know they are serving appetizers but the amount on the plates are a joke. a Bread dish is brought to your table first. This is definitely needed or you will be stopping off to eat later.

We enjoyed several tasty plates before walking to the theater. We dined on nice garlic grilled prawns, cod croquettes , truffled ham & grilled cheese, with just the right amount of truffle flavor. Dessert was a shared dish of light crispy chocolate Miguelitos .

Wife and I looking for a spot to eat after a flight from the mid-west time zone. We were looking for a happy hour special and tried using Open Tables filters to find a special. Landed on La Bande. It was in an area of town we were a little concerned about but it’s on the outskirts and was okay. The food was great.
