The chef at the hibachi table gave us his whoa is me story while he was cooking for us. He made our meals and was gone. It was the most depressing experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant.
Kyoto is always a hit! Great sushi, good prices...the original Scottsdale sushi restaurant.
We had an outstanding dinner at the cooking table!!
Everything was perfect.. NY steak, Chicken, Filet Mignon and steak and lobster!
Celebrated my son’s birthday, and he loved it!!
Absolutely awful, awful experience. Came here with 14 people for a birthday. We were not put at the same table, food was salty and expensive, our reservation was at 7:30 and didn’t leave until 10:30! Manager was incompetent and useless. NEVER coming back!
Food is great. Service was great. Had an incident that was quickly rectified. Will be back for sure!
For a birthday dinner, the entire experience felt rushed and lacked any personal flare. Food was good, but the tapanyaki portion lasted maybe 10min with 8 people at the table while other tables seemed to get the full half hour or so show!
Although we went for Teppanyaki, my wife ended up ordering off the menu. For some reason they decided to bring my wife her meal before I, and anyone else at the table received their salads. I would not go back.
Great food! Everything was prepared perfectly. Fantastic service and friendly staff.
Only one teppanyaki chef was working and the host did not combine any parties to help accommodate him. They also over served a man at the bar and attempted to kick him out as we were leaving. It was very uncomfortable. Do yourself a favor and dine anywhere else.
Fun atmosphere and the food was delicious!!
Food was Delicious and the service was excellent
Loud loud and loud. Sake bombs, and chef banging the metal on the metal hood. They cleaned 3 grills at the same time. The smoke was hanging in the air like fog. I don’t think the hoods worked well. Needless to say, it got hot. Our server was fantastic though. The only saving grace. Some of the sushi mishmash was good. Fried rice was hard. Szechuan shrimp was good. Pork in the pork ramen was good.
Great experience, food was fantastic a little noisy but that’s ok, will be back many times!!
Sushi rolls and yellowtail sashimi were excellent! Hostess and waiters could use some training. Keep up the good work with the food!
Chef and waitresses were not friendly. We were half way though the first course before drinks were even brought out. Chef hit us twice with greece from the table.
We were celebrating Father’s Day with our two sons at my husband’s favorite place needless to say our food orders were all mixed up and the food was not up to parr? The chef was coming for two different families at the same table and was all confused on the food? The taste was just not there this time? Is sad due to this is our favorite place and we were celebrating. And it was extremely hot in there like no air was on?
Great sushi but watered-down cocktails.
We had a 7:30 pm reservation. We were seated at the habachi table waited up to 9:30 pm and still hadn’t been served salad and soup. We walked out and they gave us a 50 percent discount. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you like waiting hours for mediocre food.
What a complete disappointment. We made reservations for 6:30 pm at a Teppanyaki table. We were seated promptly but then waited over an hour for someone to come to the table. They had a completely full restaurant and only 1 table chef that was traveling table to table. He was not engaged and didn’t interact with our table at all. The food had so much salt it was almost inedible. My husband and I ordered sushi while our kids had the teppanyaki. The sushi showed up after everyone else had their meal cooked and after they finished eating their meal. Doubt we will go back. Disappointing for one of our formerly favorite spots...
I will never go back. I have eaten there many times in the past usually with grandchildren who enjoyed the show. It is now like a sports bar with tvs all over. Our table faced a wall with 3 tvs. The noise level was almost unbearable. There was not a mask in sight.
Horrible - Everything about this place is all wrong. Food quality was totally sub-par for the premium price. Service was horrendous. Definitely a low-grade teppan joint.
This was the worst hibachi experience I’ve ever had. The chef was cursing up a storm and was very rude. Our server was also rude and unknowledgeable of the menu. The food was bland and way overpriced. They charge for everything— even teriyaki sauce and fried rice. The bar tender was great though and they played great music. Do not recommend this place at all. It was the only bad meal we had while on vacation. Take the extra 10 minutes to drive to Tempe and go to Kobe!
We were there for a birthday party... it was tons of fun & great food!!!!
The chef was in a hurry and did very little to interact with the table. On our table there were children who had never had hibachi, but he didn’t make it special for them. We had a birthday, and nothing was said or done either. Won’t be back.
The waitress was very nice and the chef was very skilled and friendly!! Overall, it was just a nice experience.
Establishment doesn’t have kids portions so you have to purchase an adult meal for the children. Food was okay but overpriced for the quality that was provided.
We thought it was very nice. We made reservations for 4:30 but arrived about 4:15 and it only took a few minutes to get our table ready. The waitress was nice and helpful and the chef was good although hard to understand but my hearing is bad. Overall a very nice meal. One of my daughters ordered from the entrees and didn’t think it was that great but the rest of us thought food was great.
Very dirty restaurant
Tried to charge me more than what the menu said
We used to eat at Kyoto’s back in the late 80’s. It was a popular place back then. I surprised my husband for his 61st birthday and we had dinner here with our family. Our server was nice and interacted with us, but the chef seemed like he didn’t even want to be there. The food was ok, definitely not worth the $375 I spent for the 6 of us. Very disappointing!
We paid for the “show” and the only thing he did besides slicing the meat, was an onion volcano. The food needed seasoned more and we ended up leaving half of it. Not worth taking home.
We always loved going to Kyoto when the children were younger, thought it would be a great way to revisit for my husband and my birthday. I did explain we had a birthday, however no special song or gift as last times we have gone. Just some recognition would have been nice. The chef was great, however not a personality to give us a show, and he forgot to give us sauce until the end of our meal. Not at all the experience that we were looking for from the past.
The service was good and quick, but the sushi was not good at all. We left most of it uneaten.
We normally have a great experience at Kyoto but this time we were disappointed. It started at the bar while waiting for our table. We waited a very long time for service having been ignored by multiple people. This included the manager who was more interested in chatting up a couple at the bar rather than acknowledging our existence.
It then continued once we were seated at our table. Our server was rude and disinterested. She seemed annoyed answering questions we had about the menu. The only high point of the evening was our teppanyaki chef. He was both entertaining and friendly plus our food was cooked perfectly and was tasty!
Unfortunately we felt rushed to finish our food and drink as were asked to give up our table for the next group and offered to sit at a vacant table behind us. You would think that we were lingering at our table for a couple of hours but it had only been roughly 45 minutes. Important to mention that our bill was $400 so one would think that would be an incentive to provide better customer service overall.
This review has nothing to do with COVID.
The food was not up to par for our expensive it is.
We had a reservation for 8 and waiting 30 min to finally get a table and then waited an additional 45 min to get any sort of food on the table.
The service was horrible.
Do not recommend.
It was ok. The food was of so-so quality, it felt like slightly cheap ingredients were being used with a reliance on high-fat (rich) recipes and strong sauces. Their famous volcano roll, for instance, was too fatty and salty to my taste. The service was haphazard and a bit unpredictable, but everything got to us in good time.
The drinks, like the hot sake, were decent. Overall, it felt like a place that catered to lowest common denominator American tastes. There was a emphasis on active presentation, like food on fire or certain tables where the chefs would come to perform elaborate tricks. Not my kind of place, though I can see why some people would like it.
We had a great dinner at Kyoto at a Teppanyaki table! The chef was so knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating, the food was really good, and service was great. We have a vegan friend and they made everything completely vegan for him and were super nice about it. The manager also came over to our table to check on us twice and was very on top of things. Great experience!
It was Valentine’s Day and my husbands birthday ! Amazing food and service .
The food was very tasty and the chef was entertaining. As far as covid restrictions, the place made me think, if I am going to get it, it would be while I am here... 3 tables exhaust fans were not operating so seeing the smoke settle all over the restaurant only amplified that feeling. Lucky for us the couple who would have been seated with us didn't show so we got our own table. But others were seating at capacity and not all one group. Additionally, their prices meet the expectations of Kasai without the ambiance of Kasai which why I rated value low. Overall could be a fun post covid restaurant!
Great service - staff were very professional and helpful. Fiid was delicious.
