About Kyo Bar Japonais
The new Izakaya hones in on refined, Japanese comfort food, an impressive selection of Japanese spirits and great times with good company. While sake, shochu and beer are set to flow generously, Kyo Bar Japonais also aims to place significant emphasis on its menu of classic izakaya edibles and its creative sushi counter.
IZAKAYA A traditional Japanese tavern that literally translates to “stay sake shop.” Izakayas specialize in small plates and an extensive liquor selection. Service is laid back and never rushed. Customers are encouraged to wile the night away between sake, sochu and traditional dishes such as sushi, Kushi Yaki, ramen and several fried specialties.

Kyo Bar Japonais Ratings and Reviews
My sister and I arrived at 12:15pm for lunch. We were seated promptly by a wonderful gentleman and that was the end of the good service. We ordered the sashimi combination, Kyo maki and rainbow maki. At 1:00 pm, we were asked by the same wonderful gentleman if we are ready for the bill...we told him we did not get our food yet. He brought it quickly; the best was the kyo maki.
Great service at this medium sized Japanese restaurant. We were greeted with a very warm hello as we walked through the door. They have some very nice and creative dishes. Order the Shiitake mushrooms, they are the best I have ever had. Our waiter was Guillaume. He was very warm and knowledgeable about the menu and the different types of Sake on the menu. He also helped me set up a nice surprise for my fiancé, which was a cake made of donuts with a nice happy birthday inscription (no charge!). Extremely good value. It cost around $100 + tip for a nice dinner and a few drinks. Great warm and cheerful ambience. This place is a well oiled machine. Bravo to the management, staff, and especially the Chef!
Had 6:30pm reservation, did not have to wait on arrival. Ordered edamame, the raw tuna slices app and the mushroom app - no picture but the mushroom was perfection! Had beer and an orange drink, black Cod which is incredible (guys may want to order a side with that) and he ordered that Japanese crepe. We loved our food, have had better but this is was great as well. Service was good, on time and attentive. Ambiance was perfect: not too loud, not too quiet, good for groups, couples and families. Overall great experience!
Excellent service.
The food is best shared with a friend as it's mostly tapas style. Everything I ordered was delicious. I tried things that I'm normally not too crazy about at other places but here it was really good. Beef sashimi stood out the most for me, I liked the chicken skewers the least as they were a bit too fatty. still good though. The service was truly fantastic. Thet were on point with drink orders, clean up, recommendations, and coat check. They were very friendly and very accommodating. All our servers spoke English and French and would switch between both for my colleague and I who are bilingual but better in our native tongue. The only down side for me is the food price is a bit high for like a weekly thing, I would call it a special occasion resto.
Second time eating here, and it does not disappoint. I really enjoy the variety of dishes - not your typical Japanese food - and while we had rolls this time (which were excellent - try the cucumber-wrapped roll - YUM!), you can order a great selection of meals and not have to order sushi.
The space is nice, as is the staff. Definitely a great meal.
we stayed at this hotel b/c we love sushi and thought it would be great to just walk from our room to the restaurant. we made reso's and they sat us at the sushi bar which is a BIG MISTAKE. They should NEVER sit anyone there (even if they request) because it's smack dab in the middle of the way and servers were bumping into our seats the entire night. Miserable. Our server acted like we were annoying her the whole night, and she clearly could care less about her job. Our food and drinks took forever to arrive (even the host noticed this and tried to cover it up) and we were relieved to be done. On the upside, the quality of the sushi and the food was pretty decent. Expensive, but appetizing. Overall, I would say b/c of the service and the lack of ambience, we would not return. Beware before you book and do some research for other sushi options in the city. IN a city as big as Montreal, there have to be better options.
Was looking for a good restaurant, and chose this one bases on Google reviews. The service was good: fast and friendly. The food was just ok, not better than that. If you want sushi and are in the area, the go. Otherwise, there are a ton of more interesting restaurants.
