About Kyo Bar Japonais
The new Izakaya hones in on refined, Japanese comfort food, an impressive selection of Japanese spirits and great times with good company. While sake, shochu and beer are set to flow generously, Kyo Bar Japonais also aims to place significant emphasis on its menu of classic izakaya edibles and its creative sushi counter.
IZAKAYA A traditional Japanese tavern that literally translates to “stay sake shop.” Izakayas specialize in small plates and an extensive liquor selection. Service is laid back and never rushed. Customers are encouraged to wile the night away between sake, sochu and traditional dishes such as sushi, Kushi Yaki, ramen and several fried specialties.

Kyo Bar Japonais Ratings and Reviews
Second time eating here, and it does not disappoint. I really enjoy the variety of dishes - not your typical Japanese food - and while we had rolls this time (which were excellent - try the cucumber-wrapped roll - YUM!), you can order a great selection of meals and not have to order sushi.
The space is nice, as is the staff. Definitely a great meal.
we stayed at this hotel b/c we love sushi and thought it would be great to just walk from our room to the restaurant. we made reso's and they sat us at the sushi bar which is a BIG MISTAKE. They should NEVER sit anyone there (even if they request) because it's smack dab in the middle of the way and servers were bumping into our seats the entire night. Miserable. Our server acted like we were annoying her the whole night, and she clearly could care less about her job. Our food and drinks took forever to arrive (even the host noticed this and tried to cover it up) and we were relieved to be done. On the upside, the quality of the sushi and the food was pretty decent. Expensive, but appetizing. Overall, I would say b/c of the service and the lack of ambience, we would not return. Beware before you book and do some research for other sushi options in the city. IN a city as big as Montreal, there have to be better options.
Was looking for a good restaurant, and chose this one bases on Google reviews. The service was good: fast and friendly. The food was just ok, not better than that. If you want sushi and are in the area, the go. Otherwise, there are a ton of more interesting restaurants.
Honestly, as someone who has been to Japan, the food at Kyo is absolutely wonderful. Tasty, nostalgic yet inventive in flavour, and absolutely comforting. Wish I could go to Kyo all the time! Next time I visit Montreal, I’ll definitely be reserving a table there. Thanks you Sylvianne for the excellent service, too!
Not my first time there. Food always good. They changed a bit the menu that concerns sushis. I wish they bring back california rolls... don't know why they took it off the menu. The service was slow that night but usually quick... i recommend this restaurant
One of the most interesting and unique menus I've come across in a long time.
The staff, David and JF, are professional, understanding and very helpful. In order to apologize for an error not only was the correction quickly remedied but it was done graciously. They truly made us feel good about our entire visit.
The dishes were very different from other Japanese eating establishments and according to my spouse it's her new favorite restaurant in Montreal.
Stayed in Montreal for 4 days for an anniversary and had drinks around town.I ordered a vodka with red bull and lime and was charged 12.50$ for vodka PLUS an additional $6.00 for the red bull !!!!! I asked the server how this could be and I was told that "Thats how we do it!"... This was after I ordered 2 !! Not happy at all about that when I ordered the same drink all over town and no one else charged this way !
Great amosphere, and great service. First impression of the menu we were a little worried since we didn’t see our usual favorites like California Roll. However, the waiter did mention they were in the process of a menu make over. The waiter offered a couple suggestions for maki rolls, and I must say they were a couple of the best maki rolls we’ve ever had. Super fresh, and delicious. Very reasonably priced as well.
Would definitely recommend.
Food and specials were great. I was stuffed.
I ate alone (business trip), but this place is best shared with a group as the dishes were tapas style. A few people on dates, and a few groups too. Not expensive, but my bill was $50 with tax + tip... mind you, I ordered way too much (2 dishes would be fine for an individual, I ordered 3).
Friendly staff, good location. If you want Japanese food, go here.
