At Kumquat, every dish is inspired by authentic Asian cuisine, crafted by Chef Patron Alex Boyd.
With nearly 30 years of experience in Michelin-starred restaurants and prestigious hotels in London and Hong Kong, Alex has worked with renowned chefs like Joel Robuchon and Pierre Koffman.
He earned two AA rosettes as Executive Chef at the 4 AA Red Starred Hotel St Ermin’s and led the kitchens at Mansion House, cooking for dignitaries, royalty, and world leaders.
Inspired by the flavours of Asia, Alex combines classical dishes with modern techniques to create a dynamic menu.

The table and food service was chaotic . We waited 50 minutes for a handful of prawn crackers to arrive. We had to chase for every course and for the table to be cleared. The fusion menu didn’t fuse. Some elements were cooked nicely but as a concept it just wasn’t pulled off. Then they added £25 service charge which they removed when asked but should never have been added because they acknowledged the evening had been entirely miss managed. Don’t sit in the basement because with only one toilet you’ll have a constant line of people standing waiting.

I heard good things about Kumquat so was keen to go, but our experience was just OK and I wouldn’t go back. The food was average at best. I had the vegetable gyoza to start and the teriyaki trout for my main. The gyoza were OK, they did have a nice crunch. Unfortunately the trout was disappointing. The fish was a very small portion and it came with a large amount of plain rice which made the whole dish very dry. The service was very friendly and up until the main course it was very good. But as soon as we had finished our main course it was like we no longer existed. No one came to clear the plates or take our dessert order. We were left for so long we couldn’t be bothered to have dessert so we asked for the bill and left. Myself and my fellow diners all left feeling dissatisfied and still a bit hungry. I expected so much better for a restaurant on the Pantiles.

Dinning at Kunquat was a delightful experience, full of flavors and beautifully served. Perfect service, delicate presentation and calm ambience. We look forward to comming back soon for another tasteful experience.

We really enjoyed Kumquat. The food was excellent and the service very friendly and efficient. Restaurant is popular and booking on a weekend night essential.

Food delicious service appalling. There seemed to be enough staff but they were frankly rude and inattentive. We were advised the food comes when it’s ready - fair enough - but we were then served the fish with no rice as ordered and tofu with no bau buns as listed in the menu. When we complained we were told we had been advised the food comes as it’s ready??? That doesn’t make sense. We were also served another tables food which after sitting on our table for a couple of minutes was whisked away and served elsewhere. A disappointing first experience of this restaurant. We won’t be returning which is a shame as the food was well cooked and tasty when it finally arrived.

From the cocktails to the dessert, everything was fantastic. We picked Kumquat based on its online recommendations and celebrated our anniversary here. These are good people that care about their guests and are so enthusiastic about what they do. Highly recommend and we will be returning.
