The bar program is accompanied by a menu of little luxuries created by Michelin starred chef Noah Sandoval, served in an intimate and inviting setting featuring a live edged wood bar, soft lighting, and the bar's namesake patterned cedar panels.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kumiko!
Amazing food and service. One of the best meals I can remember.
Fantastic experience, cocktail and food pairing was incredibly thoughtful and the service was attentive without being overbearing
Let’s start by saying everything we drank and ate here was exquisite and the service was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. So why only 4 stars? Because Kumiko makes so many things much more difficult than they need be. Most importantly, ordering. The menu is very detailed but has so many ingredients we didn’t know that our server basically had to choose our drink for us, and we heard this happening all over the dining room. A glossary or more descriptions would help lots. The other reason ordering is so tough is the lighting- it is impossible to read the small lettering in the very, very dim light. They clearly know this b/c they have pen lights to offer, but they honestly don’t help. The people around us were commenting on their own exact struggle. Also Kumiko really doesn’t seem to know what it is. If it’s a cocktail bar, it shouldn’t be set up like a restaurant. If it’s a restaurant, there should be more substantial food choices. 2 more things - our server suggested a drink to me that was off menu, and it was fantastic, but it was also $27. Just tell me that before I order. And, finally, put a sign on your restaurant and a sign on the restroom. Your staff ends up having to work way too hard explaining and describing things that should be self-explanatory.
Possibly the best meal I've ever had in a restaurant. Had the full menu and every bite was incredible. Sat at the bar. Service and drinks were both spectacular. Sammy took great care of us. I will definitely be back.
Cocktails are incredibly thoughtful and balanced. Food is a perfect accompaniment to the beverage menu. Truffle and honey milk bread is not to be missed.
Our waiter (from Mexico..the kindest man) was fabulous, the food exquisite!
Kumiko is a gem: The service is world class without being pretentious; you get such attentive and genuine care from the staff who are so knowledgeable as well. I also feel good about spending a my money at a place where the head mixologist and chef de cuisine are both women of color, and appreciate the intentional effort behind the spiritfree menu. My friend is sober and it was so nice to take them somewhere they felt seen and celebrated as well. The food is perfection and of course the cocktails unlike anything you'll experience in Chicago. Can't recommend enough. Most special spot in town. All my love and reverence for Julia, Maree, Sammy and the whole team. <3
Absolutely wonderful experience. Food was perfect and the drinks were some of the best I’ve ever had. Absolutely must try.
Every detail was meticulously thought out and curated to provide you with an exceptional culinary experience. I can’t wait to come back!
An absolutely unique experience...top notch Japanese-inspired cocktails paired with creative small bites and unparalleled service. A must in the West Loop!
Excellent food in a unique Japanese bar setting. Impeccable service. Portions are very small but tasty.
Excellent cocktails and bites. Definitely coming back for more plus the omakase experience.
An amazing five star experience. Don’t go here unless you are ready to pay for excellence
Amazing service from Alberto. His extensive knowledge made everything so enjoyable and relaxing. Great drinks, food and atmosphere.
I have enjoyed my most elegant food and cocktail moments of 2019 during mulitple visits to Kumiki. RUN, don't walk there and let the team there curate your entire experience from start to finish. It's like a luxury spa experience for your palate and mind.
The team at Kumiko provides a thoughtful, delightful service. Sit at the bar if there's room, and let Sammy or Julia take care of you. We stopped in for a quick drink on Friday while we waited for dinner reservations elsewhere, and it was so wonderful we returned with friends on Sunday night. In addition to the delicious cocktails and the spiritfrees, the food was impeccable. Do not miss the Milk bread with honey ice cream. The only reason I don't eat that every day is that I live too far away.
The food was dreamy! There were robust and delightful flavors in each bite. I love the sashimi and the Japanese milk bread, however, everything we ate was delicious. Being greeted at the door with tea was a lovely touch to cleanse your pallet and prepare you for an experience that feels like indulgent self care.
We expected dinner. Perhaps this was my mistake. We were three hungry
people who ate only bites with lots of alcohol. The bill was about $350+.
We left slightly buzzed and hungry. I wish it had been clear that this was
not a place for dinner but for drinks. When we saw the menu, the waiter
assured us that we could have a full dinner there. This was untrue. Also,
the lack of valet parking was definitely a problem.
Everything about this place is perfect: next level drinks, delicious bites, impeccable service, beautiful space (even the bathrooms are incredible). I cannot possibly recommend Kumiko enough.
Great place to meet up and have a conversation with friends. Zen atmosphere.
We heard about Kumiko from Bon Appetit and we couldn’t be happier that we went. Although they have mostly small appetizers for food, we were able to make a dinner out of it. The waiter was fantastic and he gave the best cocktail recommendations. It’s the perfect date spot and the food was incredible.
A finely balanced, minimalistic menu encourages you to try pretty much everything on it. Creative combinations that blend traditional japanese flavors with some unexpected twists. Exceptionally knowledgable and passionate Sommelier is an additional bonus if you sit at the bar.
fantastic experience. The cocktails are perfect, and I am not easy to satisfy when it comes to cocktails. The food was delicious. It made for a perfectly romantic evening. We did get nudged out as there is apparently a specific amount of time one can sit at the table. And they were very accommodative to my girl who is vegetarian. All in all it was excellent and we will return.
Kumiko/kikko is without doubt the best new place to eat and drink in the city. It blends comfort and elegance with an attention to detail rarely seen in Chicago.
Delicious food and great service all around. Will definitely be back
For all the hype, this place was not very memorable. The drinks we re outrageously priced- $25 for an old fashioned?! And the service left something to be desired. Our waiter came over, told us kitchen was changing over at 10pm and if we wanted to order food from regular menu, we would need to put in order by 10pm so he would come right back to check on us. Then he disappeared and did not return until 30 minutes later, around 10:25pm. We didn't want food but if we had, we would have missed the opportunity. The atmosphere was a bit Ikea-looking and uninspired. I have had better cocktails for much more reasonable prices in the west loop and Fulton Market.
It was absolutely incredible!
Went for a few bites, but primarily for the liquor/flights/cocktails. One of the most interesting, fun, and engaging experiences I’ve had at a restaurant. A superb beverage program featuring high demand and high quality spirits.
Thank you Julia, Sammy and team. What a special experience!
Well worth the visit! Amazing drink and food experience.
Fabulous experience- lots of fun and the food and drinks were sublime
Lovely cocktails. Well trained and knowledgeable staff. Delicious food.
Absolute attention to detail sets the place apart from the rest.
Inspiring Cocktails! We had a lovely time there. Don't expect to be full.
We sat at the bar and were served by Julia. She is a master of her craft: focused, efficient, and adroit in each movement. Her natural charm and warmth of character made us feel at ease despite the fact that we do not frequent establishments of this caliber. Sammy and Julia both conversed with us in a welcoming way and were willing to answer all our questions.
The drinks were phenomenal, the pepper berry tonic (a spirit free) and triptych both exceeded our already high expectations. The tonic was a tasty drink that prompted us to order a second one and the triptych was so deep and strong that it kept me satisfied with small sips throughout the whole experience.
I usually find phrases like “depth of flavor” too pretentious for my reviews, but it seems the only thing that can describe the tastes of the food we had. Everything from our first bite of nigiri to our final bite of milk bread was a delight. Their steam buns were soft and satisfying, our favorite being the pork belly, and their tempura prawns were almost too beautiful to eat. When we did though, we were amazed by the flavor that they packed into such a small dish.
Seeing that my wife might have been a bit cold, she was even offered and provided a beautiful shawl to wear.
In summary, everything in our experience was exemplary in terms of service, taste, and beauty. Kumiko is well worthy of its stellar reputation.
This gorgeous, thoughtful, and delicious place is an oasis of serenity, grace, and elegance in an often, way too chaotic city. I am obsessed with the bespoke cocktails made with rare sakes and so many off the beaten path spirits. And I love to sit at the bar for a perfect one-bite dishes paired with Julia and Sammy's suggested drinks. I would go every night if my pocketbook allowed!
Such a perfect spot for a date. Quiet incredibly elegant and endlessly thoughtful. A jewel.
The cocktails are amazing and the food was surprisingly good. Stellar service.
Marvelous. Everything was perfect. Could not have been happier with the experience. A new favorite spot.
