Refined southern food better than, dare I say it, ya mamas. Service was eager.but less than refined though they try hard to please. Cocktails were crafted—recommend: the Manhattan. Glass walls make for an excellent view of the emerging east downtown scene.
Fantastic food. My wife and I shared appetizers and several small bites plates and everything we ate was terrific. Will absolutely be back. Thank you.
This was our first time there, and I was very impressed. Food was extremely creative and tasty, the waitress had a great knowledge of which of the small plates worked well together, and the atmosphere was nice without being too fancy. And try the bread pudding for dessert - oh my.....
Great food and service!
We LOVE Kulture! It was such a great experience
Everything was great we would defiantly visit again. The server was attentive, the food was Delicious. We tried the fried okra, johnny cakes, fish, macaroni and cheese and the collard greens. They were all great. I particularly liked the greens, mac& cheese and the johnny cakes... Yummy. They also had a live band and they were terrific and we really enjoyed listening to them while we ate. two thumbs up!
Was underwhelmed by the food. Needed a little more flavor. Our waiter Torrence was great, the mimosas were perfect. Also, they should let patrons know about the parking and the best place to park. Too much of a hassle.
Great place for a date or a night to relax!
Great food. Pleasant server though not very attentive to smaller needs like providing a serving fork for the appetizer or refreshing our water. Entrées took FOREVER to come and were served separately, so we still ended up waiting before digging in. Despite that, food was delicious.
Food was interesting, very modern and creatives take on southern fare, execution was somewhat of a miss. Waitstaff was very friendly, but food took over an hour to arrive after ordering. Would come back for the cocktails— those were excellent and came in time.
The service started strong as we were one of two tables being waited on by our waitress. We placed our orders and then came two large parties and once they were seated, our waitress was assigned to them and just like that, service began to suffer.
Our appetizer the calas(fritters and dip) - the dip which is served hot had a fermented taste and kick to it combined with the fritters also savory was not a good combination. The flavors seem to compete with each other rather than compliment one another. On its own however, the fritters were fantastic.
The oxtails ragout was excellent. The coconut grits reminds me so much of the Ghanaian rice porridge and the fried poached egg also our fried boiled egg. Brilliant plating and wonderful flavors.
The chicken served on the waffles again reminded me of home. We make a fried chicken and stew it just like the chicken here but to serve it on waffles (which were divine) is new to me! I see this as the union of two cultures. It made me think of Africans in the diaspora and the union of the two cultures which have become our lives in America. Honestly, profound!
The bread pudding which I was most excited about was a huge letdown. I suppose the pastry chef has changed it from the croissant like version that was previously being served? Not quite sure but what I was served came out cold and grainy in the mouth.
For drinks, i had the mimosas (they were great!) and the Ghanaian Bloody Mary (which I may have ordered just because I'm Ghanaian )! It was as you would expect from a Bloody Mary--full of flavor! However it was not the best choice for the dishes I had so I did not drink it. They were kind enough to take this and the bread pudding off my tab.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would go back to see what (if any) improvements or changed have been made.
This was my first time dining at Kulture, and I enjoyed myself. Food and drinks were great (try the oxtail entree!), and our service was amazing. Our waitress was very attentive and personable. The ONLY small issue we encountered was the live music. It made it extremely difficult to hold a conversation. Other than that, I had a great time and I'll be returning!
Beautiful space and decor, with creative cocktail and food menus. We ordered the Calas & Collard Dip, which was original and delicious with fluffy little fried balls for dipping. We shared the fried Poussin, which was delicious and served in a flavorful, creamy sauce. The mac and cheese was fantastic, with crispy cheese medallions and paprika - it tasted great dipped in the Poussin's sauce. The johnny cakes were sweet and slightly crispy - just fantastic. Service still needs some work - the bar was especially slow and our waiter didn't seem to know what to do to appease customers who had been waiting 20 minutes for a drink that only arrived after all the plates had been taken away. Nevertheless, fantastic restaurant and we'll definitely be back for more!
The restaurant is beautiful, and the food is unique and tasteful. Customer service needs a little work. I made the reservation online for 9:15PM but called the restaurant because I needed a reservation for 4 and the online system only allowed the reservation to be for 2. I spoke to a women who immediately told me I couldn’t make a reservation online and I needed to call her. I thought to comment was rather rude given that initiated the call for assistance but was being scolded. She proceeded to tell me I had to arrive by 8PM in order for 4 ppl to be seated. Though it was 6PM I agreed to arrive at 8PM sharp since I had guests in town. I arrive at Kulture and find my reservation for 2 at 9:15PM is there and no record of the 8PM reservation. My friends and I end up waiting an hour to be seated. The host he was very accommodating, but there is obviously a disconnect in communication.
We joined another couple for lunch before going to an Astros game.
What we loved: the ambience, view of MMP, and food!!! We will come again soon!
What bothered us: the music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other’s words (it was turned down at our request), not getting our food quickly and not giving us our bill quickly because we had a game to catch. I thought they would know to do this because we had Astros shirts on & the game was at 1:10. So, I had to ask if our food would come out soon because we had a game to catch at 1:10, and later I had to ask twice for our check.
Food did not live up to the hype of restaurant name.
Beautiful inside, delicious food, awesome service!
Can’t wait to go back.
Great as always, good place for brunch and conversations. Best lemonade.
Was absolutely amazing. The staff was great, the food was great and they had a great band there. Would recommend again.
Great restaurant- food is delicious, service is friendly and helpful, ambience is light and modern. Loved it!
The food was decent, but the service was very sub-par. There was an event going on in the restaurant, which is fine, but I feel like if you are neglect to serve patrons for dinner, close the restaurant until the event is over. I went to Kulture for my anniversary dinner. The event was downstairs, they sat us in the middle of the restaurant. It was so loud and we were shouting to try to converse our party of 4. I asked if we could sit upstairs. The staff said no. (Upstairs was empty and would have been a lot more comfortable for people who were not a part of the large event). So we are the only patrons at the restaurant, in the middle of a very loud event. When our food came we were eating and the people attending the event stood against our table, backsides in our faces towards our food. I had to ask the people to stand somewhere else. It was a terribly uncomfortable night out for sure. The manager never did come talk to us. They did comp 20% of our meal, but the food wasn't good enough for me to return. So I don't recommend this place for a nice quiet night out.
great as always. very consistent quality week after week.
I’d been to Kulture once before when it first opened. The service then was abysmal but the food was good. Decided to give it another try on a Friday night now that they’ve been opened for a bit. We were told 3 times that our table was being cleaned and ended up being sat about 45 minutes after our reservation time. The hostess offered a free dessert for the inconvenience (which we were still charged for). There was a live band and it was LOUD- to the point that you couldn’t hold a conversation and had to yell to speak to anyone. The service started off ok and quickly went downhill after we received our food the waitress disappeared. Overall the food was pretty good but again this place lacks majorly in service. The couple seated next to us actually walked out after waiting over 30 minutes to get drinks from the bar.
We went for a birthday dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. The people the atmosphere were exceptional. But you cannot expect anything less from Marcus Davis.
Great experience we will be back.
great as always, tried the fried chicken this time and it was fantastic. went well with the seasonal lemonade.
My wife and I have passed by Kulture several times over the past year Each time we commented about making a reservation. Finally did it and were absolutely delighted! Wonderful, warm welcome as we entered the restaurant. The menu has a nice range of starters, salads, mains, sides and shared plates. Plus there's a good variety of champagnes, wines, cocktails and beers to choose from on the beverage menu. The mains and shared plates were all visually pleasing and mouth watering treats. Each had just the right touch of spice to tingle the tongue and compliment the other flavors in the dishes. I'm not a fan of bread pudding; however, I was blown away by the Kulture's version of this dessert. Service was perfect as was the pace of each course. A gem of a place that we'll be returning to the next time we're downtown.
Excellent food and menu and service. Lovely place.
The food, drinks and the staff were exceptional. I'll definitely be back and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who comes to Houston!!!!
Great place. Great food. Great vibe. The only issue was the acoustics when band performed. It was difficult to hold a conversation with my guest. Other than that, I enjoyed Kulture.
This place was such a great choice! I loved my food & drinks. I wish it wasn’t so loud at times but the singer was flawless! She’s very professional. The service was excellent. I will definitely visit again.
everything from presentation to flavor is top notch. my fav brunch place in houston.
Black owned, great food, service, ambiance and location. Friday nights have live music.
Took my wife here for bday brunch!! It was absolutely great! It was an amazing vibe and I love the black culture!!! 👍🏿👍🏿
Everything we tried was amazing.. collard green pockets.. black eyed pea hummus.. mac n cheese.. meatloaf meatballs.. yams.. cornbread.. and the riblets! Even my peach mimosa was great! Definitely going back!
My favorite brunch place in downtown Houston. Literally every dish tastes as good as it looks.
Came for my mother’s birthday and the food was delicious.
A really fun experience; the cocktails, the band, the plate presentation!
Fantastic brunch spot. Good ambiance, clean and superb food.
Excellent food and drink - live jazz trio was the cherry on top!
This is a great afternoon and lunchtime spot. The food had a great twist on traditional soul food. I could come here weekly and still be surprised by the flavors of this place.
