This place really flies under the radar. The food is unique and the atmosphere is very pleasant, the best thing to do is get a bunch of their appetizers.
We intend to go back. We tried the rib appetizer, broiled sea bass and pancit noodles, which were enough for two hungry after theater goers. The waitress was attentive. A few people ensured that we knew what to do with a whole fish. The food was excellent. There were a number of interesting things on the menu that we would like to try and for the less adventurous, there are hamburgers. The outdoor seating looks like it would be wonderful once the weather permits.
We dine at Kubo's regularly before attending any number of shows at Theatre Wit or Stage 773 right across the street. Usually, we're on the early side of the evening so it's still pretty quiet ... We now have some favorite items we adore - their Caesar Salad - and their Pork Ribs Adobo - either as an appetizer or entree. Personally? i like to take the meat off a couple of ribs and put it INTO my salad - MMMM ... We are in LOVE with the staff - especially Christina - DO ask to see photos on her phone of her adorable new puppy, Zoey! We'll keep returning! Delightful offerings on their menu! Try the Pancit!
The food and service were great. I would go back again.
Great Food and Friendly Service. Perfect for Pre/Post Theater. It's my "go to" place to eat on Belmont Avenue across from Stage 773 and Theater Wit. And you can pay to park in the lot right behind the restaurant before, during and after the theater.
There were 6 of us for dinner. The appetizers we tried were sweetie pork on a stick, skinny egg rolls, Adobo pork ribs, and the bouncy squid and shrimp balls. The pork appetizers were the favorite but all were very tasty. Two people requested the Sweetie Pork on a stick as their dinner and the kitchen accommodated by adding green beans and rice to complete the dinner. Pancit, steak, the Kansi beef soup and the Kaldereta goat stew finished out our dinners. Ube ice cream was a delicious ending to our meal. Our server Christine, was great.
Great location and dining choice before seeing a show across the street at Theater Wit or Stage 773.
Big mango fan so the Kubo martini was delicious. Eggrolls and bbq pork stick were delicious to start. I ordered the whole fried pampano which was fried perfectly and tasted amazing with the sauce it came with
We went to Kubo pre-theatre on a whim, and what a find! We enjoyed authentic Phillipine inspired appetizers, and we all tried something different for dinner. The chile was outstanding and the curry seafood dish was the best my son ever ate (says he)! We also enjoyed the plantane dessert, which was very tasty. The mixologist at the bar created wonderful drinks for us post-theatre. Definitely a good experience and recommended. The ambience is a quiet, hole-in-the-wall little gem; the service was friendly and good and I’d like to go again in the summer and sit outdoors.
Kubo is our "go to" place to diner before performances at Stage 773 or Theatre Wit - SO enjoyable! Staff is very respectful of theatre patrons' timing, too. The adobo short ribs are amazing - either appetizer or entree size. i am personally a big fan of the Caesar Salad! I'll take one of my hubby's adobo ribs and add to my salad for mmm-mmm-goodness!
Such personal attention...great team!
The food was delicious, my cocktail was scrumptious, the service was excellent - and they have parking for just $8 in back! You going to the theater on Belmont? I recommend Kubo's before and/or after -
Like most of the other reviewers, we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the staff and service. Seating ambience and tables are only adequate, but the restaurant did have some very nice artwork on the walls. Highly recommended for a night out, pre-theater dinner or fun date.
We grabbed appetizers and drinks before a show at Stage 773 across the street. The bartender (possibly the owner?) waited on us and was friendly and attentive. He asked if we were going to a show so he knew what kind of timeline we were on and then recommended items that were somewhat quick. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend the ceviche and guacamole! We will be back for sure!
We enjoyed our brunch meal at Kubo. So happy we have a good Filipino Resto close to downtown.
Awesome drinks, even better food! Awesome service! Will be back!
Perfectly located across from Theatre Wit and Stage 773, this is a great choice for pre/post show meal/drinks. Filipino-American food - and some tantalizing mash-ups! Terrific staff. Covered, heated patio - valet parking that's good for theatre, too! win-win!
I came to Kubo for an early dinner after seeing a play across the street. The drinks are potent. The beet salad was perfect. The Adobe pork ribs were succulent and delicious. The server was courteous and helpful. I enjoyed my meal, the music and the atmosphere. I will definitely go back with friends.
Great restaurant, right across from Stage 773. Made a reservation at 5 pm, before the play at Stage 773. Reservation wasn't needed. Restaurant did not become busy, until about 6:30-7 pm, as we were leaving. Went with my sister and best friend. We all enjoyed our meals. Food is made fresh and delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised by the tastiness of the purple yam ice cream. I was practically licking my bowl. Service is also good. I told the server I wanted the noodle dish without any seafood. They brought it with shrimp, and she came over to apologize, and another dish with sent out shortly, piping hot, without any shrimp. Only complaint is restaurant is a little dark, which is probably attributed to the ambiance. But, with time, your eyes adjust. Would definitely recommend, and if seeing another show at Stage 773, will definitely go back for a pre-theatre dinner.
I brought friend and they loved the food and the atmosphere. It’s clean, staff was friendly and most of all the full service bar.
Great location if going to Studio 773 or The Wit Theater! Just a reliable place and offers Philipinno menu options. Staff was helpful in putting parking sticker in my car as there was a light rain and I have limited walking abilities. Wine, beer, and drink options are good.
Excellent food and service. Great opportunity to sample Philippine cuisine in a nice neighborhood with excellent parking. Conveniently located across the street from stage 773 and Wit theaters.
Outstanding ambiance, great service, tasty food, good drinks, great value, good variety, friendly staff - a real gem to be visited! Thank you!
The some of the best traditional filipino food I’ve had and the people are always so nice and let you know what you should order!
This place was amazing. The owner was incredibly friendly and passionate about their food. He pointed us towards a few of his favorite dishes, all were fantastic. The ribs were an easy choice, he also recommended the seafood curry and the salmon which were both delicious.
The outdoor patio was great, nicely decorated and spread out. It was also dog friendly which is always a plus.
I would definitely recommend this place and I will definitely be back.
Great food great service!
Such a wonderful experience! My friends and I were looking for authentic Filipino food for a casual birthday dinner and we found it! The service was excellent and we had a great time! The cocktails are creative and delicious as well. Will be going back often.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary by eating at Kubo before going to a show at Theater Wit across the street. The food and drinks at Kubo were exquisite, and we got to sit in an outdoor seating area on a lovely night. We would love to go back again sometime.
Kubo was pretty damned good. The martini's were very nice, served by a bubbly waitress and eventually by the owner. It was early, before a 730 show.
I've had Filipino food before and this was very good. The Sweetie Pork was great. We both had the Asada. It was good, but if you are thinking Carne Asada from a Mexican Restaurant, don't. It's different.
We had a great time at Kubo. The Pork Ribs Adobo dish was fantastic, very tasty. I also recommend the Peeyotinit, delicious!
Eight of us met here for dinner before theater across the street. We had been to the other restaurant (Fahlstrom's) nearby and wanted to try this new place. Everyone enjoyed their food but the service was terrible. Took forever to bring our drinks, and then a really really long time to get our food. They knew we were going to theater and had to leave around 7 (reservation was for 5:45 so it should have been plenty of time). I had to twice go to ask for drinks and food. Food finally came but we had to eat quickly. They were pleasant and kindly offered (without us asking) to give us separate checks, which was nice, We will try it again and hope that the poor service was an aberration. We would LIKE this restaurant to succeed - well located for theater and creative cuisine, something different.
Fabulous neighborhood place. The owner visits each table. Ceviche is fresh and outstanding, and portions are big. Great cocktails too.
Wonderful experience! Great server and the food was outstanding.
We popped in for a delicious brunch highlighted by fantastic traditional Filipino food.
One of our new favorite go-to places! Everyone had the fried Red Snapper. It was superb! We also liked the tuna ceviche. Cool joint. Try it!
Relatively empty but very friendly. Would enjoy the place more if the prices were a tad cheaper. Maybe some appetizer and happy hour specials.
Sam is always a gracious host when dining here. There are daily specials as well as the regular menu. This applies to drinks as well - Sam has come up with a new ginger martini which is outstanding!
There is inside dining as well as dining on the side porch which can be heated it the weather is cool. The food is always carefully prepared and presented. There are also many interesting appetizers from which to sample.
They are right across the street from two theatres on Broadway which makes it easy for pre or post theatre dining.
Great new find! Amazing tuna ceviche! Deep fried whole Snapper was our favorite. Their famous ribs were good, but nothing Filipino about it. Try the plantain dessert. Excellent service from C.
Excellent service e and a nice variety of menu -- American dishes plus Philippian dishes. Good wine and beer list.
FABULOUS food. FABULOUS service. Drove from the far west suburbs and will do it again and again!
