One of the best dining experiences in the area. Creative, delicious and reasonably priced. Love the history of the place and how they honored the Friendship Eight.
Don’t recommend for brunch. I don’t mind spending a lot on really good food but this was not. May try again for dinner sometime but definitely not for brunch.
The acoustics make the restaurant very loud. Even as a younger patron, I had a difficult time hearing the person next to me and couldn’t hear the conversation across the table.
I got the tofu and Brussels sprouts which was INCREDIBLE. It’s tough as a vegetarian in the south but Kounter is knocking that dish out of the park!!
My friends got the shrimp tacos and salmon tacos. They both complained that the taco bread (shell) was sweet and there was hardly any salmon. It’s also a very small serving. Someone else got shrimp on some kind of toast and they didn’t eat much of the bread because it was swimming in grease. I was the only one happy with my meal :/
They seemed under staffed which is an issue everywhere and it’s the new normal right?! Our waitress looked very unhappy.
Overall I’d go back for lunch when it’s maybe quieter, I’d order the tofu again. My friends will not.
I do not like loud restaurants. I literally had to yell at my wife across the table. Did not stay to eat so I cannot comment on the food.
The food was amazing, service was excellent and drinks were fantastic!
Always excellent. We really love the Smoking Tuna Poke!
Excellent food as usual
Service a little busy
My wife and I, along with our best friends, celebrated my wife's birthday, last night, at Kounter. It was definitely a mixed experience. While the service, was very good and quote accommodating, the food was rather hit or miss. I had the meatloaf; it was delicious. My wife had the shrimp and grits, delicious. One of our friends, the fish and tots, mediocre. But our other friend had the steak and potato, and he said it was disgusting. I tried it as well, and agreed that it was great. I'm sure some people like it, but not us. The value was also had to stomach. I understand the fancier food the more expensive it is going to be. However. I didn't think fancy meant small portions. I walked away hungry, even after the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and Asian Brussels. The ambience of the establishment wasn't awful, but it wasn't as fancy as we expected it to be, given the price of food, recommendation for reservation, and area of town. All in all, not a horrible experience, but not one that will prod us to return
We had a great meal. Service was great! Food was delicious
I made it a point to come to Kounter for the first time this year and I have no regrets doing so. It is one of the busier restaurants in downtown Rock Hill and it was a vibrant Friday night crowd. The food was delicious! I had the Shrimp and Grits, and while the shrimp was tasty, I would have preferred the removal of the tails. Overall, a very pleasing, satisfying and tasty dish. The atmosphere was also fantastic...it was busy, but we never had any issues with service. It was timely and courteous. The walls around Kounter contain fitting tribute to the Friendship 9 and the City Girls for their landmark protest in 1961, and more is planned to expand upon the tribute to them in the space adjacent to the restaurant. All of this in the city that proclaims there is "no room for hate" makes Kounter a go-to place. Kudos for a job well done!
We had a delicious meal and a delightful experience. I highly recommend Kounter. I will definitely be going back.
It was such a great dinner, little pricey but very good
Good food, good service, historic location, somewhat limited menu for a meat and three sort of guy. Enjoyed an early evening with my wife and she was very pleased! That makes it a success, right?
Our waitress was incredible very attentive the food was great I need ice cream with my desserts
The service was impeccable! Loved sitting at the counter and watching the chef. The hangar steak just melted in your mouth. My daughter had the lobster gnocchi and it was the best she has ever had. Next time we won’t get as many appetizers - they could be a meal in themselves and so good!!
We loved Kounter! Amazing food and staff. The cocktails were wonderful and seeing some of the food be prepared was special. Highly recommend!
The food was amazing, definitely will be coming back.
Great food AND service. Will come back soon!
We keep coming back, incredible food, fantastic service
We were celebrating a birthday! They brought out a chocolate pie for us. Started off with the Gr8 crackers which were different but delish! Shrimp and grits were amazing!
The Smoked Tuna Poke was fantastic, if I go again I will likely just get this as my meal.
We also had the shrimp tacos, Salmon Dish, and PBJ Wontons. I like the Salmon also. Pretty cool place to try out for a date night.
Excellent food and service. Tables are a little too close together…especially during these times of COVID.
This has been the first restaurant I have been to in a while that had not only incredible service but amazing food. Everything was quick and efficient. And most importantly the best food I’ve had in a long time. Already recommending to everyone I know and can’t wait to visit again.
We had a delightful dinner at Kounter! The history of the location makes the visit even more special. The food was unique and DELICIOUS! Have a cocktail, you can't go wrong. Even our kids enjoyed the chicken and waffles sushi. Overall a wonderful experience!
Everything about this place was phenomenal. This was our first visit to downtown Rock Hill. The food, service, and atmosphere were top notch. We will definitely be returning despite our hour drive.
Our second time here and still a favorite! The smoked sashimi tuna app was a standout.
Our server seemed more interested in chatting at tables with customers her (young) age, so it was a bit annoying to have to wave her down often. But she was informative, sweet, and on it once we got her attention.
This was our first visit to Kounter and we were very impressed. Food was delicious and beautifully presented and our server, Darrian, was terrific! We will definitely be returning.
Even the day after we ate at Kounter, I said, "It's just a good place." And I mean that--the food is really, really good. The gnocchi and lobster was fantastic, and I love every cocktail I've had there. But it's also a good place for the history and for the intentionality of highlighting the story of the Friendship Nine. We love it.
This was my first visit to Kounter and I will definitely return. Love their story too!
I was so excited to experience this place and sadly it was a letdown. I loved the concept and reading the menu I was super excited. Just not my cup of tea. Not my husbands sadly we won’t be back. Don’t let this stop you everyone is different and this place has many positive reviews. Maybe we just went on an off day.
One positive tho was the ribs the sauce was amazing!
Absolutely LOVED the atmosphere, food, service and overall experience. I will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family!
Once again a perfect meal, with great service and wonderful presentation.
This was my second visit to Kounter and again was not disappointed! The pan seared scallops are AMAZING! I took my oldest daughter for a mom/daughter date and we both left super full WITH leftovers
The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Cannot recommend this place enough. Love love love.
Wonderful experience! Food was amazing so was atmosphere. Went for a anniversary next time will sit at the counter for a more up close experience with owner and chef.
It’s always a great place to go people are friendly food is great
everything was amazing, the craft cocktail, our food and the service. The lobster gnocchi is heavenly. Going back again with guests for sure.
Great service, good food. I love the way the Kounter preserved the history of the restaurant yet made it so modern.
Service was great. From my observation, I think our server might have been new but she was great and very knowledgeable. If she is, this speaks very well of their hiring and training procedures. Food was a little pricey but that was expected from our research, but it was also worth it. The food is mixed with familiar options with a twist, to some interesting and unusual. We will have to go back, not just because it was great overall, but I couldn't try all the interesting dishes all at once!
