KOSAKA provides a unique combination of extraordinary food and an elegant appearance which fully embodies the Japanese Edomae Style.
As a Michelin star chef for the past ten consecutive years, chef Yoshihiko Kousaka is also a traditionalist in his preparation of sushi. He focuses on the seasonal assortment of exotic fishes flown in daily from Japan and sourced locally and he changes his offerings daily based on what is available at the fish market, both domestically and internationally. KOSAKA offers two omakase options: sushi only and sashimi & sushi.

Excellent omakase! Majority of the fish direct from Japan, with unique finishes to the negiri, some even spicy. Wine a bit expensive but overall experience was wonderful, with well-crafted sushi.
The food was delicious so I can see why people give it a high score. However, as someone who’s been to many of the great high end sushi Omakasa spots as well as every “go to” nyc sushi spot I feel as though this was just overpriced. Nothing about this place made it standout against places like Bond St., Mamoya, Yakazawa, Bou, etc. nice enough place but would not go back again.
Amazing food! Best sushi I ever had and the service was fantastic!
You would be almost foolish not to eat here if you’re looking for an inspiring, interesting and truly delicious meal.
Quite simply the finest sushi restaurant in Manhattan.
I hope that my consisten 5 star marks imply flawlessness, because that is what we got. Every course was in harmony. The host even hand wrote our entire menu so that we may look back when retelling.
Food was extraordinary. When dining at a Michelin restaurant, you expect to know every detail of what you’re about to eat; you want it to be an experience, for that is what it is. We understand the tradition and importance of having Japanese staff, but the language barrier diminished the experience because we were not able to understand what was being served. We also understand the difficulty of learning a new language, but we would suggest having a detailed omakase menu so clients know exactly what they’re getting and can appreciate what is being served to them.
We sat at the sushi bar. did the omakase with a bunch of supplements. While the food & champagne and sake were quiet expensive, we had a lovely time. The food was delicious. the service was professional and buttoned up and the atmosphere perfect for an intimate sushi meal. We will go back again. This was our first sushi experience since before the pandemic started and it was just so nice to be back sitting at a sushi bar and eating amazing fish. thank you!
The staff was very attentive and always making sure things were clean. They have a Sushi Bar Seating which was priced differently than table seating because you get a view of the Sushi Chef's at work and they provide you your sushi directly after being made. The Sushi Chef were kind and made an effort to make you feel welcomed.
The fish came from different parts of the world and all were cut well without any chewy pieces. Nearly all of them melted in your mouth. Rice was warm and perfectly sized to not overwhelm each bite. They keep their sushi fairly traditional. Fresh Real Wasabi is provided. The Uni tasted buttery and you can taste the Ocean within your bite.
Service was excellent, however because so much was occurring in regards to plate changes and silverware changes and water refills, it did make the night feel slightly rushed, however I was not asked to leave earlier than I would have.
I truly enjoyed my meal and enjoyed the service they provided. I understand their Michelin Star Rating! They also provided a small birthday Tart when I advised them in a note that it was in celebration of a birthday!
One of the best meal experiences of my life!
Overall a good omakase for the price but felt rushed since the service of dinner took less then 1 hour
Unbelievably delicious. Everything from each piece of fish down to the rice is perfectly done. The service was amazing and with each piece, the chef gives you information on flavor and origin. Can’t wait to go back.
Sadly, this was a poor omakase experience that left us truly disappointed - the Michelin rating felt misleading! Lack luster nigiri quality and frazzled staff running around did not lend well either - the shari tasted old and neta preparing technique appeared amateur. An NYC star rated omakase failure leaves a bad taste for anyone!
Simply put, everything was just amazing. Service was professional yet friendly. Servers did a great job with every little detail without bombarding us at all - we felt very comfortable the whole time. They were very knowledgeable with the menu and recommended a great sake to pair with our meal. The food was just out of this world good. Speechless honestly... even their appetizers were so delicious. Highly recommend Kosaka!!
Kosaka is a gem. An elegant setting with spectacular food and great service from friendly staff.
I will definitely be back.
Amazing. Excellent experience.
AMAZING! I come here once a month and wont eat any sushi until i go to Kosaka, the wait is worth while.
Sushi man created great pieces. Experience was there. Rice temperature was on the spot. All in all a great experience
Over and above being accommodating. Lovely service and the Chef Kosaka is amazing.
Best Sushi dinner ever!!!!!!!! Food was outstanding and service was phenomenal. Wonderful experience.
omakase is excellent. recommend the sake pairing.
Facing a wall, food and drinks were over priced. we were expecting to sit at the bar by the chefs but sat facing a wall. I've been to VERY High quality sushi restaurants that were cheaper for the overall value given
Kosaka was an understated, elegant and absolutely outstanding meal from start to finish. The omakase was very fish-focused, with less of the fru fru and all of the delicious simplicity of nigiri, sashimi and maki. The service was incredible, warm and fun yet perfect balance between attentive and inconspicuous. Will 100% be back.
nice location, easy to access, great food and helpful staffs
Excellent sushi and presentation. Would highly recommend.
An amazing experience and that is what I was expecting the food absolutely increíble as the service it’s always gorgeous to see professionals at work.
amazing omakase experience
domo arigato 🙏
For our first restaurant experience in 15 months we chose Kosaka. Everything was fantastic. We made the right decision.
Sit at the bar. If you sit at the table it is extremely loud and you can hear people’s conversations next to you. Expensive but the quality is there. Simple, no frills service. Good for a quick dinner.
Lovely place. Best service. Exquisite food. Everything was impeccable.
Arrived at around 8:50pm for a 9:00pm reservation. There is no waiting area, so we were asked to come back at 9:00pm exactly, even though we saw two seats available at the counter. When we returned, two gentlemen walked in 30 seconds prior to us. These two gentlemen were given the available counter seating (the same seats that were available when we first arrived at 8:50pm), while we were seated in the main dining room near a table with extremely loud and obnoxious people that (based on their boisterous conversation) appeared to work in finance.
There was only one menu provided to the two of us, the wait staff asked us three times what drinks we wanted as they had forgotten the first two times, and the waiter appeared to rush us into ordering without even describing the menu items to us. We did not even know that we could add a la carte menu items to our meal after ordering the omakase, and we were only told this after the fact.
The sushi itself was good, but not amazing. The uni was a little gritty in texture and the salmon roe was overly salty - the grated daikon did not provide the balance that the salmon roe course needed. The sashimi was fresh and the highlight of the meal, but overall the entire experience was disappointing because of all the other factors considered.
Definitely not the dinner I would have expected from a sushi restaurant with a Michelin Star. There are hundreds of other sushi restaurants in New York City where one would have a better experience. I’ve had numerous omakase meals at the best sushi restaurants in the world (Masa, Nakazawa, Sushi Yasuda, Kinjo, Umi, Jewel Bako, Sushi Ginza Onodera). My experience at Kosaka does not even come close. Kosaka is severely overrated.
I took my girlfriend and her mother to Omakase at Kosaka last weekend. It was one of the best omakase experiences ever! Every piece was amazing and every one of my guests enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. I want to sincerely thank the manager/owner for the great care and attention to service. I look forward to my next opportunity to dine at Kosaka! Thank you Kosaka! :)
Just about the best classic sushi in NYC. Yoshi-san is a maestro.
First and foremost, the staff was so warm and welcoming! All the courses were so delicious and fresh. The whole experience from beginning to end was absolutely amazing!
Exceptional food and service. Highly recommend for omakase. Live large and get the bluefin tuna tartare with caviar for a $50 supplement. Heavenly.
