KOSAKA provides a unique combination of extraordinary food and an elegant appearance which fully embodies the Japanese Edomae Style.
As a Michelin star chef for the past ten consecutive years, chef Yoshihiko Kousaka is also a traditionalist in his preparation of sushi. He focuses on the seasonal assortment of exotic fishes flown in daily from Japan and sourced locally and he changes his offerings daily based on what is available at the fish market, both domestically and internationally. KOSAKA offers two omakase options: sushi only and sashimi & sushi.

Atmosphere, quality, value and overall service all easily worth price of admission. Event dining done right without frills. One of my favorite meals in last ten years.
Elegant venue with a polite and knowledgeable staff.
The food, ambiance an service was amazing. This was our first Omakase experience and it was delightful. It was great to be seated at the sushi bar and get the show with the chef preparing right in front of us.
Although I do not know each course is called, they are all wonderful!
Amazing food, service, and overall experience. Pricey but worth it !
I personally have never had better sushi, simple as that. The overall experience is amazing. Never disappoints. One of my favorite restaurants.
Amazing food and service! Well worth it!
Great place! Went for a birthday dinner. Amazing food, amazing people, amazing atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Beyond belief.... soooo elegant and quiet. I loved it!
The quality, composition and balance of the food is superb; the progression of the omakase in some cases surprising and always delightful. It may be function of the patronage -- young, date night, not very focused on the craft being exercised at the counter, more on phones - but the floor service fell below Michelin's one-star standards. Relatively obtrusive, not consistently refined, violated basic rules - no clearing until all completed; arms across face; serve and clear; notice missing items; rushed. Perfectly polite, just not schooled. On balance the chefs' work compensated. We shall return and look for signs of the level being raised.
Average sushi omakase, fish selection is limited, no surprise. Waiters are polite but feel a bit rush to move onto next piece of sushi. Dessert spoon is too flat/dull to scoop sorbet.
Kosaka lives up to its Michelin Star reputation. The ambiance, the food, the explanation, the presentation, the level of service… it all meets expectation. The quality of the ingredients in each new bite served is beyond expectation. It really pops.
You get what you pay for here.
Service not good , food not good , I don’t go there again
amazing omakase with exceptional service. highly recommend
Amazing. Me and my mating partner had an outstanding time here. We do this everyday. Highly recommend
An absolutely other-worldy amazing experience. What a pleasure to watch masters craft each dish and serve it to you immediately with every detail you could possibly need to know. Fantastic service all around. The atmosphere was relaxing and refined but not stuffy at all. It was well worth it. My only complaint is that I'm going to have a hard time finding something that compared when I got back home to LA.
Food not really worth the price. There many better 1 star sushi options
AMAZING! One of the best sushi meals I've ever had. Absolutely magical!
Everything was wonderful. The only reason the food gets 4.9 stars and not 5 stars from me is because I did not care very much for the amuse bouches. The nigiri omakase itself was excellent.
Amazing as always! This is probably our 5th or 6th visit maybe even more since we are hooked and i just want to thank the whole kosaka team who are the absolute best and so attentive to everything. The chefs are phenomenal and have been since our 1st visit. Can't wait to come back and enjoy
Amazing food in a cozy spot in the West Village.
I love Kosaka with Yui
Great meal. Fish was very fresh and delicious. Nothing particularly interesting or exciting relative to some other recent omakase meals and the service was very formal, little bit stuffy. Very cool sushi bar and ambiance. Very nice business dinner.
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had!
It’s a good restaurant don’t get me wrong, it’s just the food is not up to my expectations. The overall dining experience was ok. You can find a better restaurant with much lower price.
Top notch sushi and top notch service!
I think the best compliment I can give is that I’ll definitely come back again.
With a price tag of almost $200, sushi omakase at Kosaka is disappointing.
Rice is blend lack of proper vinegar dressing, without the clear and bouncy texture as it should be. Fish, even though fresh at some point, lacking what a $200 omakase should have. They don't even offer otoro tuna! The chutoro offered was blend without the tuna's fatty flavor as it should be.
Almost forgot about its terrible uni. In its dark orange instead of fresh bright yellow color as it should be, the only gunkanmaki is super slim with uni in its bad shape.
The dashi soup at last? Heartwarming but not too far from the supermarket Hondashi counterpart.
Overall I do not recommend their omakase, even though it has 1 star from the Michelin guide.
We’ve been to this restaurant 4 times already. It’s a favorite every time we’re in New York. We love seating at the sushi and the omakase never disappoints. It is expensive for everyday dining, but in my opinion it is a fair price to pay for the exquisite quality of the fish and the whole experience.
Amazing fresh omakase. Delicious
Outstanding experience! I highly recommend Kosaka.
Amazing experience!!! Great service and food was superb. Must try!
Loved the sea urchins like a lot
I have no words for this place ; it’s magical!! You should definitely visit if you can . We travel a lot and have been to many Michelin star restaurants but this stands out as truly a surreal experience!
Fabulous experience. Friendly and comfortable combined with exquisite food and excellent service.
An intimate and lovely portal to Tokyo in the heart of the West Village. Gracious and attentive staff, cheerful head chef and founder, and first-rate food that’s innovative but not outlandish. Sublime.
One of the wonderful things about an omakase experience is often being transported to a piece of Japan for a few hours surrounded by graciousness and respect. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with Kosaka where the service is cold and rushed. The dishes were all delicious, but as someone who had had omakase experiences elsewhere in NYC, SF, Japan, Taipei, and elsewhere, this one pales in comparison. There are much better options out there with wonderful service and a heightened experience.
