They redid their menu again. Loved the new sushi options. Will definitely be back.
Food and Service were outstanding !!! The special dessert, tempura ice cream with whip cream and strawberries, was a nice finish !!!
Excellent fish quality and flavor combinations. Everything from the fresh wasabe to the sake selection tells you that you are eating at a place that cares about the details. The only downside was that there was only one server while we were there, which slowed down an otherwise perfect meal. The service was very friendly though, so just plan to spend a little extra time with the experience.
Portions were smaller than expected but still very delicious
We’re foodies, but we hate getting dressed up or going to overcrowded spots.
Kona Kai was the perfect spot for us, we could dress casually, bring our kids and eat yummy food!!
The service was excellent!
I loved that we could easily make a reservation via open table and our table was waiting for us!
Food was yummy, and fresh!
Parking is simple!
Restaurant is clean, not a big place but comfortable.
Highly recommend for a casual spot to eat Japanese food and sushi!
Enjoyed the hamachi and salmon sashimi, all the gunkan, oyster and uni shooters (I topped it with a little of our sake!) . Also, the fresh oysters were one of my favorites I've had in quite a while. I wished the order came with MORE than two! I love that they have happy hour pricing for food after 8:30pm.
Can't wait to come back!
Enjoyed our meal at the newly renovated Kona Kai Sushi. The sushi selection was very fresh. Loved their version of a sundae with green tea ice cream. Will definitely go back again.
Incredibly fresh sushi and sashimi. Friendly service. We sat in their private dining room with our larger group. We’re visitors and we’re delighted to have found it!
Waitor left. Never received half the meal after 2 hours.
Came for our anniversary; We were here around 8:15pm and the place seemed very busy. It was obvious that there was only 1-2 waiters for the whole restaurant. It took approximately 20 min to have water and sake served to us. We then ordered not too long after and it took close to an hour for food to be served to us. Within that hour we had no service, no one to check on us, and overheard waiters saying they had run rice. WHAT SUSHI REATAURANT RUNS OUT OF RICE? (We gave it the benefit that they were such a good restaurant for them to close early due to this) My boyfriend and I used to be restaurant servers and did not want to seem like annoying guests. But for and expensive place this was a dispappoinent. We ended up walking down the street and going to the smal Korean joint and had a great time!
It is always pleasureable eating at Kona Kai.
Our Waiters were great and very helpful. We had a delicious dinner and enjoyed the pyrite room with friends. Thank you Aaron for the great service.
So glad they’re back open!! Love the food. Little smaller menu than before!! Will definitely go back again for sure!!!
Place was closed when we got there! Why did they allow us to make a reservation when they had closed for kitchen renovations! We had to search for another place, last minute on a Friday night!
Was surprised with the new menu and how much more variety of sushi and other Japanes cuisine options. 👍🏽👍🏽
Took my brother here to celebrate his birthday. It was a first for both of us. Walked in and greeted by servers, not friendly just a perfunctory greeting.
Gave the chefs five stars for their willingness to create a salmon skin sushi roll not on the menu. The roll was excellent. Really enjoyed the spicy tuna chips, unique and tasty. The seared salmon, Hokkaido scallops roll was another delight. The mixed tempura was done to perfection. Not so good was the wagyu steak. It was too bland for my taste, though the Bro thought it was ok. The stuffed calamari was tender and tasty. I also enjoyed the Kona Kai roll. My overall is a thumbs up!
Great service, kind staff and very high quality sushi! Other kitchen items are also yummy! Would recommend the miso salmon scallop roll and the three wisemen sushi.
It's not the same. We miss the sushi bar, the former staff and sushi chefs.
Returned for the second time after the reopening. The nigiri sushi is still excellent and reasonably priced. The salmon skin salad is great to round out the meal.
Welcome back Kona Kai Sushi! We really missed this restaurant as a midweek dining destination. The food is the same high quality.
We were very very disappointed...never come back again!!
We were excited to go there after renovations.
But it was totally different everything! Servers are horrible!!!! We sat the table,20minutes no taking order,no water! Servers never come! We asked owner(Japanese lady) to take order and bring waters, she took our order and 1hour no foods... it took 1hour half after we entered.
No food,no water!! Servers were served foods to different table they don’t know which table ordered!
We waited for our food for 1hour45min just got Edamame!!!
We decided to cancel our orders, and server brought bill we were very surprised! It was all wrong,we didn’t order all and it didn’t show which we ordered!!! Ridiculous!!!
We told them “it’s not our bill” but they didn’t remember our orders... Most disappointed thing is “NO APOLOGIZE from servers and owner!!!”
They just looked at us very bad mood! I just recommended DON’T GO there!!its very different from kona Kai before...
I’d love to tell you about the food but after waiting for 1.5 hours, not a single morsel of food was brought to our table. Thankfully we BYOB otherwise we would have been waiting for that too. The wait staff seemed as though they’d never waited tables before. When we said we were leaving after 1.5 hours of nothing, there was no offer of redemption and no attempt to do something to win our future business. Too bad. This place was really good before the ‘closed for renovation’.
Love the new look of KONA Kai. They kept my favorites. We loved everything and the server was great. Food came out a little slow for the restaurant being empty, still working out their soft opening. The only Miss was we ordered the steak medium rare and it came out well done.
Excellent sushi and sides like daikon salad and agedashi dofu. And a nice authentic variety of drinks like shochu, sake, Japanese beer. The atmosphere is informal and friendly and pretty much all about the food.
Baked oyster, Gindara, rolls, Nigiri are all very fresh and tasty.
We took our 12-year old son here for his first taste of "fancy" sushi. He loved it. We got the omakase for all three of us and he gave the meal a 10 until the oysters. The oysters were actually great, but certainly an acquired taste. Maybe next year:)
Great as always. I think the fish is best in town. The dishes are all spot on.
Everything was really great except for the ginger - it tasted really disgusting.
Excellent food and service, will definitely return.
Great food and service!
This restaurant is a real gem. My wife and I ordered omakase (chef's choice) and the food was superb! I highly recommend the restaurant.
Always great. Super fresh fish. Friendly atmosphere.
Try omakase !
The wagyu steak is delicious and a decent size (8oz). Seafood dishes are on the small side.
Alway a good time here.
Amazingly fresh fish, friendly service...... just love this place!!
Always great food & friendly staff. First time tried Wagu nigiri & it was excellent & have to order second one.
The sushi was super fresh and the best I've ever had. Staff and service was exceptional. Had a wonderful experience and would absolutely go again.
Good, like, legit like, really good, like you would like it... I mean I dont know what your into but this place is like good man
