Kona Inn Restaurant
Seafood is King at the Kona Inn where the fresh fish are brought in daily by the local fisherman. The mammoth horseshoe-shaped all-Koa-wood bar is a world-famous watering hole that serves the best Mai Tai in the Isands and the coldest beer on the Big Isand. You have not truly had an Hawaiian experience until you've visited the Kona Inn Restaurant.
Happy Hour: 2:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Dinner: 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Overall, the food was good, the waiter was nice but distracted, and the service of the support staff was lacking. If I am spending $130 on a dinner for 2, then I expect to be greeted and acknowledged within a few minutes of being seated, my water glass to be refilled, the bread to be fresh, and each course to be served at even intervals. Had the restaurant been crowded and busy, I would have been less critical, however, this was not the case. I have always loved eating here in the past but this time I came away very disappointed.
Great food and excellent service in a historic location
Always great! Our " go to" place for special occasions, time with family and friends, and just because.
Kona Inn was excellent as always. we try and visit at least once every time we are in Kona.
Got there early and was graciously advised that the area we were to be seated, was not quite open yet and was given the option to seat at the bar. (Of course we did not decline). We were then pleasantly escorted and sat for 15 min, when our table opened up. It was pretty warm but the scenery was beautiful. Service was okay, no problems. Food was good and prices were okay.
We had a gorgeous table by the window. The place has a great charm and feel to it. The seafood we ordered was lovely.
Great as always. I always have my last dinner on the island at KONA INN. It is a fond reminder that I must come back soon!
Our server Romeo was great. Food was good.
Had to wait 20 minutes longer than our requested open table reservation time.
Table view was excellent.
Le poisson était trop cuit, et pas particulièrement savoureux. Le beurre servi avec le pain était rence. Pour le prix, très décevant.
The mud pie is amazing! Be sure to save room for dessert. I had the fish sandwich and it was excellent. My only negative is that it does not carry rose’ wine.
Service was excellent. Food was very good. I just felt that we ended up paying a lot for the view. Prices are quite high.
One of our favorite places for dinner or afternoon lunch. Fresh fish is always available and cooked to perfection, the mai tai's are the best in town! Will return for sure!
Was very good as always, had my 2 yr old and they were very accommodating...drinks were a little watery but it could have humidity.Love love view and waiter!!!
We are part time residents and have enjoyed many meals here but not last night. We made reservations to set at the lower level and after we arrived were told there were no seats available yet tables remained empty while we were there. We were seated in the higher sections where The abeyance is not very good with bright lighting.
Our dinner was cold and not very good. The service was slow and never even asked if we needed anything.
If this was my first experience I would never come back but as I said we have enjoyed many meals here over the years that have been lovely, just not last night.
our server could've been a little more attentive and drinks took some time but server informed us that bar was backed up. but over all everything was great! food, flavors, pace, setting, everything. i had a great night with friends.
Always a special treat to visit this historic, oceanfront spot with great food, exceptional service and a beautiful indoor and outdoor setting. This is our favorite for special dinners as well as fun afternoons for lunch, cocktails and appetizers. Always a great experience!
The crab cakes and ribs were delicious but the macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi ( $45.00) that was only supposed to have a “drizzle “ of plum sauce came smothered in it and when I mentioned it that it took all the taste of the fish and nuts away from it they said that they would keep that in mind for next time. Never got the side asparagus with it and the garlic mashed potatoes were dry very little hint of garlic.
Great local and specialty dishes. Wonderful wait service. Somewhat pricy but typical for area. Beautiful views especially at sunset.
I have visited the Kona Inn many times in the past on both sides of the restaurant. This time, we dined on the dinner side. The waiter, Tyson was so friendly and personable with great recommendations.for both food and drink. My mom tried a Lava Flow and loved it. My dinner was amazing, Macadamia crusted Mahi. My mom had the Calamari sandwich which was not the best a little tough, she didn’t want to send it back so nothing Tyson could have done. All in all a great meal and highly recommended if you are visiting Kona. As an added benefit, the sunset was amazing!
Perfect cook on the Mahi. Not many places get that right. Always a lovely setting. Great service.
We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past and looked forward to dining there once again. However, both the food and service seemed to have gone downhill. We had our usual favorite fish dishes. The prices were higher, which was expected, but the fish was not as good (Ono had a strong fishy taste) and the shrimp stuffing didn't seem to have any shrimp in it; the stuffing was skimpy. The service was very slow and they were not too busy at the time we dined. We decided not to go back again.
Great server-Bill. Great old time Hawaii touristy place. Great waterfront sunset view. Food just okay.
We make sure to have dinner at the Kona Inn every time we are in town. Service is always great, the view can’t be beat, and the food is always delicious. The fresh fish is as good as any fancy restaurant on the island, and prices are reasonable. Burgers and appetizers were great too. They actually have more choices (both seafood and otherwise) than most places around. We will always return, and always recommend the Kona Inn.
Front desk couldn’t find reservation - had to show email confirmation. We were seated in the middle, 3 rows back - felt cramped, table for 2 but with 4 chairs, while 1st row tables for 4 had 2 people seated at them.
Cocktails were good, appys ok, entres were ok- 3 plates with ahi on them were cooked medium, not rare, mahi-mahi was cooked perfect.
Mud pie was large enough to give all 4 of us a taste.
For seafood in the $40 range, it was meh, nothing special.
Good ambiance and location to take in the sunset on the waterfront.
Very nice at sunset. Service is very good. Nice choice of seafood, poultry, and beef.
We took three friends here for a meal prior to their holiday ending and all five of us agreed it was wonderful. The food was delicious as always, and we had exceptional service from "Jim/James" we highly recommend this to anyone visiting the island.
Great place for viewing the sunset. Mai Tai cocktail is a good one.
Another amazing dinner with family, thanks to the Kona Inn. We make it a point to have a special evening/sunset dinner every trip we make to Kona, Hawaii. Fantastic food, service and ambiance. A MUST if you are on the island!! Mahalo for more great memories!
I was looking forward to trying out Kona Inn and the only thing that was impressive was the waiter. He stayed out of the way, but made sure that we always were kept full of essentials. The menu was not overly impressive, but adequate. I had the ahi, which would have been expected to be a perfected dinner item here, but it was so bland and over-cooked that I sent it back (and I almost never send anything back). The quickly replaced it with a back up fish dish which was better, but still not worth the price tag. Mai tais were good. Wine list was unimpressive. For a 90 year old restaurant in an awesome location, I just expected much more. To be fair, my dinner companions' experience was a bit better, but none would likely return.
Very good food (fish, especially) in a great historic waterfront setting. Outstanding place to see the sunset! Servers are always very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
The hostess left us standing at the entrance and we were unsure what was going on. Had to ask as she met other diners Poor communication
My husband fish arrived cold. Server said he would warm it up? At $50 an entree one would expect more
Server was not knowledgeable about their wines. Wine prices more reasonable than entrees
Great food, and service was exceptional. The view was wonderful from the patio.
Ambiance became even lovelier at night. Great for sunsets. Some things on the menu were very high value. Be prepared to pay top dollar market price for fish, but the quality was great.
Friendly, attentive service.
Definitely worth it.
A stunning setting with varied choices. Always a fresh catch choice of local fish. Attentive service. Reservations encouraged.
Our server Romeo was attentive and gave good advise. The view of the ocean is unbeatable. I had the mahi-mahi and my husband had the stuffed ono, both were delicious. I highly recommend Kona Inn for a special occasion.
Great view to watch the sunset and wonderful service. Food was excellent lots of varied choices. Definitely a special place
Very nice restsurant, good food, nice atmosphere, and very good service. Would return for dinner or lunch.
