Kona Inn Restaurant
Seafood is King at the Kona Inn where the fresh fish are brought in daily by the local fisherman. The mammoth horseshoe-shaped all-Koa-wood bar is a world-famous watering hole that serves the best Mai Tai in the Isands and the coldest beer on the Big Isand. You have not truly had an Hawaiian experience until you've visited the Kona Inn Restaurant.

Have been two times and it is a great place to relax and enjoy the ambiance of the island with a good meal
Went for Thanksgiving Day meal. Our waiter was excellent. The meal was good.
Enjoyed Thanksgiving there with the spectacular view. Were surprised and very disappointed that there was a limited holiday dinner menu. One of our party of 5 did say the Turkey dinner was the best. Mahi and ono were simply charred without any other flavor, and dry. Every entree was served with the turkey sides: stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry sauce (tasted like from a can), and tasty asparagus. Pumpkin pie was included. All permitted deviations were extra charges. Ice cream Mudd pie was huge and good. Server was friendly and tried hard
Food was great. Had a perfect view of the sunset and excellent service. Great spot for a holiday meal away from home.
Amazing all the way around! Loved it!
I needed a good place for the two of us to complete our fantastic stay on the Big Island, ideally complete with a gorgeous sunset. The Kona Inn was a wonderful choice. Our server was helpful but not hovering. The sunset was exquisite. And the food was delicious. Beware the mai tais, though! They pack a powerful punch!
Service was good, food was just okay.
Food was outstanding albeit a bit pricey. Pretty busy but our waiter Jim was on it.
Our waiter was exceptional and the food was good but very expensive. A bit too expensive in my opinion. However the ambiance and the waiter made up for it. However we almost did not stay due to how unprofessional the hostess was. They need to work on who is greeting their customers. It is not a friendly first impression.
Best Mai Tai's we've found in Kona along with outstanding fresh fish! Wonderful experience will be back for sure!
Always a great experience at the Kona Inn, absolutely the best Mai Tai's in Kona as well as daily fresh fish cooked to perfection, we will definitely return!!
While it feels like kind of a big place where there are lots of people and the servers are very busy; in the end they pull it off! The food is fresh and delicious and the service is very good. Ambiance is really fun and they can handle large groups with ease.
Our server, Brett, was FANTASTIC! The food was wonderful! Perfect end to our time in Kona.
The Kona Inn is always good. Good food and service. Never has let me down.
Our favorite mid priced place in Kona - Always good fish and great rolls - Mai Tai’s pretty good also
I’d love to leave a great review for this restaurant but I unfortunately can’t. The food was very so so! The service was a waiter who tried but just didn’t deliver well. The restaurant needs to be updated. Looks very tired! We had a nice evening but our hopes were much higher!
While the Inn itself is wonderfully vintage, it’s food, alas, has not evolved, either. Drinks were devoid of alcohol and were watery, lacking even flavor from their other components. And the food, while adequate, was mediocre at best. The restaurant’s selling points remain its stunning ocean view and its beautiful Old Hawaii wooden interior. It is an evocative and romantic setting which, together with desserts the size of a baby’s head, is the Inn’s sole saving grace.
We had a beautiful sunset dinner on their patio and loved everything
Our family was on vacation to the Big Island for the first time. My husband and I thankfully chose to go to Kona Inn Restaurant for a date night. It was amazing--- view, food, service, cocktails-- all perfect!!
Seafood combonition had 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and two pieces of fish, all of which were sub par. My wife ordered seafood cob salad which had canned shrimp and bay scallops. She won’t order that again either. They have a few good things on the menu but they need to step up their game with all the choices in Kona.
We loved this restaurant especially Wind and sea. But tonight the only thing which took away from the evening was the crackheads our front by the ocean. We got a dinner and a show. When you pay for a nice dinner it sad to say that there was such a problem with the locals and their drug problem. I would recommend this place but not sure I would come back due to the crackheads
Good food, nice location. By the water in time for the sun set. I come here every time
I’m here. I enjoy the ahi appetizer and crab cakes.
Overall, the food was good, the waiter was nice but distracted, and the service of the support staff was lacking. If I am spending $130 on a dinner for 2, then I expect to be greeted and acknowledged within a few minutes of being seated, my water glass to be refilled, the bread to be fresh, and each course to be served at even intervals. Had the restaurant been crowded and busy, I would have been less critical, however, this was not the case. I have always loved eating here in the past but this time I came away very disappointed.
Great food and excellent service in a historic location
Always great! Our " go to" place for special occasions, time with family and friends, and just because.
Kona Inn was excellent as always. we try and visit at least once every time we are in Kona.
Got there early and was graciously advised that the area we were to be seated, was not quite open yet and was given the option to seat at the bar. (Of course we did not decline). We were then pleasantly escorted and sat for 15 min, when our table opened up. It was pretty warm but the scenery was beautiful. Service was okay, no problems. Food was good and prices were okay.
We had a gorgeous table by the window. The place has a great charm and feel to it. The seafood we ordered was lovely.
Great as always. I always have my last dinner on the island at KONA INN. It is a fond reminder that I must come back soon!
Our server Romeo was great. Food was good.
Had to wait 20 minutes longer than our requested open table reservation time.
Table view was excellent.
Le poisson était trop cuit, et pas particulièrement savoureux. Le beurre servi avec le pain était rence. Pour le prix, très décevant.
The mud pie is amazing! Be sure to save room for dessert. I had the fish sandwich and it was excellent. My only negative is that it does not carry rose’ wine.
Service was excellent. Food was very good. I just felt that we ended up paying a lot for the view. Prices are quite high.
One of our favorite places for dinner or afternoon lunch. Fresh fish is always available and cooked to perfection, the mai tai's are the best in town! Will return for sure!
Was very good as always, had my 2 yr old and they were very accommodating...drinks were a little watery but it could have humidity.Love love view and waiter!!!
We are part time residents and have enjoyed many meals here but not last night. We made reservations to set at the lower level and after we arrived were told there were no seats available yet tables remained empty while we were there. We were seated in the higher sections where The abeyance is not very good with bright lighting.
Our dinner was cold and not very good. The service was slow and never even asked if we needed anything.
If this was my first experience I would never come back but as I said we have enjoyed many meals here over the years that have been lovely, just not last night.
