Kona Grill - Minnetonka
Kona Grill - Minnetonka is one of our go-to restaurants. Nice ambience, very good service. Every dish we've tried has been very good to excellent.
I celebrated my birthday with my grandchildren. I enjoyed the food and hoping more vegetarian items will be added to the menu. The vegetarian offerings were minimal but we were able to improvise.
The food was fantastic. The server left us sitting for about one half hour after we had finished. I also joined their Kona Club and we were suppose to receive some kind of birthday gift and an free appetizer, but didn't receive either. When I told our server as we entered the restaurant about joining thei club, all we got was a shrug of the shoulder.
This was the first time I tried Kona Grill. I went with my son. We ordered the Calamari as I thought with the rewards app you got a free appetizer or roll for signing up. Beware....read the fine print ...it is buy one, get one free. The calamari was NOT good. Our entrees were good. I had a garden salad with chicken and my son had the pad Thai. Overall, meh. I’ve had much better.
Great appetizers, great happy hour prices, good place for lunch or dinner
Open table took my reservation for 8:45 and then
Calamari was nothing to brag about. Over breaded & no flavor. Wouldn’t order that again.
A favorite of ours
We regretted trying Kona. It’s a beautiful space with friendly staff, and an inventive menu. Sadly, none of the food we ordered was better than just acceptable. Not bad enough to send back, but not good enough to make us want to return.
Prime Rib PotStickers: too dry and rather boring flavor. Needs meat to be more tender, plus a delicious dipping sauce, and a spicy mayo type drizzle on top for flavor and presentation.
Poke bowl: this I actually thought was a joke when I got it. For the price of $16, you get 1/3 of the ingredients and size of a place like Big Bowl or JJ’s or Hawaiian Poke Bowl. The chef at Kona would do well to visit those places for education.
Crawfish sushi: not good. Tiny dry crawfish, and just an overwhelming spice flavor. Nothing good for taste.
Triple layer brownie: overly sweet, overly dry, couldn’t find any trace of cream or ganache as promised on the menu
We didn’t eat at KG. My friend was treated so poorly upon arrival, that she left and went next door. The host rattled off something about HH at the bar but our res was in the dining room so no HH there. Whatever my friend’s choice was, the hostess pointed and rattled off instructions on how to get there. Pointed. Who points in a restaurant? We love the food but not that night.
Food was excellent, however, service was very slow for a Monday lunch when the restaurant was not very busy. We were starting to wonder if the staff had lost our order. Our waitress was very quiet and looked a bit stretched thin, possibly restaurant was understaffed that day. Will return for the food and hope service is improved.
Table was sticky, floor was sticky, chair backs were loose and broken.
Ate in bar area for happy hour. Fantastic deals for excellent food!
I made a reservation on OpenTable and we were seated immediately upon arriving at our scheduled time and she was friendly and then the two servers we have were extremely friendly and very on top of it. Food-wise exactly as ordered and came out in a timely fashion.
Fun evening had 4 different rolls. It was my birthday and had a bd coupon for $15 off our meal. And to my surprise the waiter sent us home with the killer brownie dessert you have to try it!
So, so food. The pork sliders and a lot of fat. They also discontinued one of our favorites, the salmon sliders.
Came in for Mother's Day. Waitress was good but food arrived cold. Waitress no where to be seen. Mashed potatoes cold and so was brocololini. Chicken luke warm. It was disappointing. Have had better meals there.
I’ve been to this location twice now and both times I’ve had exceptional food and service. I’ll definitely be back for a third visit. :)
Lackluster service. Watched my son’s sandwich sit under heat lamp for 20 min while waiting for appetizers to be made because server forgot to order. They were comped, which was nice. Set up reservation as a birthday dinner, but it was never mentioned. Disappointed ☹️
I have never had mushy Pad Thai before.. but the noodles were chopped small and just gross. The jumbalaya was not just 'spicy' but super spicey. Not many people at our table finished their food.. it was disappointing.
The hostess said the Restaurant closees at 10pm, same time as my reservation.
If you like sushi, this is a great place to go – the drinks are very good, the dishes vary- lettuce wraps don’t seem to have too much chicken in them- potstickers were very good
We eat at kona often. The food was great as usual but something seemed very off with the staff. Our specific server was terrible as he appeared angry and deflated. He was extremely unattentive and hardly said a word to us. We had to order water 3 times before getting it, my husband had to get us silverware from another table ( waiter forgot to bring it) and we waited about 20 minutes after finishing our sushi before we could order more rolls. We almost didnt order more food at that point. My husband even walked up tot ye bar to order another drink since I waited didnt come back. The bartender staff seemed off as well my husband noted. Hopefully kona is treating staff well. Even though our service was terrible, we still tipped the staff over 20 % as we weren't sure what was driving the staff demeanor. Hopefully next visit with the staff will match the food service!
Very rude server will never visit again,we felt like the food was thrown to our face
I liked my meal, however the mashed potato was very stiff not creamy as it normally is. Overall i love Kona Grill a lot.
It was good food portions small
Really enjoy Kona Grill.
Our experience was good but we were disappointed with the changes to the menu. You removed a lot of our favorites.
Great evening, a bit too loud though, the food was good, service good also
They sat us near a kiosk where they enter food orders, so close that our back was hitting the stand. We wrote down we were there for a birthday and we had no only a terrible table, but they never mentioned anything about the birthday. Our waters were empty majority of the time until we had to ask. We didn't receive plates with out appetizer and had to ask. My sushi rolls fell apart when I tried to eat them. We ordered a side of taro chips and they never came until we had to asked.
We used to live in AZ and have been to multiple kona grills. This one is the worst we've been too.
Mumbai chicken was terrible. Pad Thai was okay. The service was poor. Server forgot to bring water and never asked if we wanted another beer. We had to ask twice to bring water. Nice atmosphere.
Very good meal.loved my sushi sampler with oriental salad. Others at table had the chicken stir fry and were surprised by the spice level. Menu did not explain it was spicy/hot and neither did waiter. While it was tasty, they were having difficulty with the heat. Mostly good service, had to ask for more water and for soy sauce and chopsticks for sushi, but overall good experience. Will be back!
Fun menu and a great staff! Perfect for a family birthday celebration. Highly recommend!!
45 min to get food. Service was inattentive
Although the Happy Hour menu has changed recently, it is still one of the best in town especially the Yellowtail Sashimi.
I enjoyed my meal. Would have loved to see the calories on the menu since I go my calorie count. I was a little shocked at the receipt at the end of the meal but overall it was enjoyable.
Daughter in town
Good food and restaurant was nice atmosphere. Our server was uninterested in helping... long wait for food which we could see at the counter. Despite my request here in reservation and speaking to the reception staff our server didn’t acknowledge our daughters 10th birthday until after we paid and said “ooh did you want something for her “ good food but very poor server
All of us had sushi. It was dry and not as good as in the past. What happened? Also a bit expensive. Won't return for sushi.
This past Thursday was a really busy evening at Kona. I did have a reservation but it took a very long time for either hostess to acknowledge that we were standing right in front of them. I had requested a booth and that was not considered, sat us at a table right behind the hostess stand flipped up the table ends to make it a smaller table. Very uncomfortable, I'm a leg crosser this was not possible. Didn't even look for other seating and there was several tables available closer to the fire place. Half a booth would have been just fine. The Sushi was good, told the hostess wanted lower sodium she never brought it. Had to ask someone else. Just disappointing.
