We *love* Koi! One of our favourite places for vegan nosh.
The live music was great, food was good, and the service was on point without being overwhelming.
Came to Koi for the open mic night and were not disappointed! We have some incredible talent in this city and great to see it in such an intimate environment.
This was a great intimate venue to appreciate jazz music. The service was very slow but the cocktails were delicious so it made up for the long wait. The portions of appetizers were smaller than expected but the entre was a decent size. I would definitely come back to see another show!
Food was average. Our server was fairly new, but she acted as a “food taxi” we had to constantly catch her attention for drinks (did not offer refills), sauce, etc. That’s why I gave it one star.
There was live music, but the place is so small and the music was uncomfortably loud.
We went to the restaurant for dinner and to hear the music. The service was great, the food was tasty and the ambiance was very nice. The classical guitar music presented by the Classical Guitar Society of Calgary was exquisite. Thanks Kat, Eri and Stephen for your great performances.
Never disappointed with the food or the service!
Great service, good food and nice live entertainment. We’d go back next time we’re in town.
Small restaurant but value and taste was outstanding.
Great place. Food and service were wonderful. The music was fabulous! Would go back again to hear Katherine Fischer!
Thank you for the great review Carol! Would love to have you back again!
We visited during one of their open mics, and it was a very nice event with a strong sense of community, where you felt welcome. The food was delicious and they have an excellent cocktail selection.
So glad that you enjoyed our weekly open mic! As one of the longest running open mics in town, the community is thick and we want everyone to be apart! Come back again!
We were there on a Saturday evening before the live music starts, to celebrate a family birthday. We chose Koi for their vegan options and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious, cocktails were amazing (I'm glad I indulged instead of sticking with my usual wine!) The ambiance was intimate and kind of cool, and our server was knowledgable and fun. We'll definitely go back - highly recommended!
We are so glad that you enjoyed your experience at Koi, Karen! Would love to have you back anytime!
The best party in your mouth flavours. Reasonable portions but the flavours were outstanding. Awesome vegetarian options. Kudos to Olivia our amazing server as well. She was a true delight and happily took our photos when we asked. We were heading out to see Oprah that evening and Koi was an awesome place to be pre Oprah. Definitely will be back. Thanks so much.
Koi has excellent food and is a small hip gem downtown. The service is EXCELLENT!!
They have different musicians, bands and artists regularly and they are providing a venue for these burgeoning artists.
It’s small, loud, hip and delicious with awesome servers.
Delicious and diverse menu! Great pricing and atmosphere here.
I love koi, the people the shows, the food, the drinks, the staff, the atmosphere! what great vibe ! I was going to go alone but I found 5 friends to come with me and they had a great time! no regrets! 10/10 will go again
It was our first time here and we enjoyed the relaxed feel. We liked that parking wasn’t difficult for us to find considering it’s downtown. The food was alright, to be honest it was quite salty. We had the koi salad with candied cashews, springrolls, ginger beef and vegan burger. The burger was enjoyable but everything else was unfortunately too salty for our liking. The entertainment for the night came off pretty loud. The saltiness could’ve just been a one night thing or just us being sensitive to salt...Overall very nice place with friendly staff.
Amazing food. I had the, best ever, chicken curry rice dish. Drinks were excellent, as well. The best part was the top notch jazz group that was performing. The "Sean Croal Group" played 2 hours of 'Miles Davis' related tunes. The volume was perfect, the anecdotes were simple and informative and the musical quality was excellent. I have been to Koi at least 8 times and will keep coming back. It's too bad the servers are always run off their feet, though they do try their best.
Food was okay, one of the dishes is very salty.
Not up to par of what I expected based on the rating.
But the vegetarian/vegan options are nice.
Great with Indy YYC event for entertainment
Excellent food, service, atmosphere and music! It's awesome that even on a Monday you can enjoy live events.
Food just ok. There was live music which would have been fine but it was way too loud.
Fantastic evening. Great live music. A perfect package and a memorable evening.
We went to Koi for a night of live music! It was fantastic. Perfect intimate setting, great service by all staff. Drinks and Food prices are on the higher side, portions were small so be prepared, but the service made up for cost of product.
Live speakers and musicians were amazing. Great concept, welcoming environment for all.
Crowded and somewhat chaotic atmosphere. Live music (Jim Hutchison) was amateurish and too loud. There were two errors on the bill (in our favour). All clients had to leave by 9:00 to prepare for the layer show. Food was OK, but somewhat bland.
This is a small jewel, the only negative is that is it is pretty small but other than that it's great!
There was no live music when we went.
Breaking bread with friends we hadn’t seen for a while and although the night was bitter cold staff set us up near a heater. Staff was great at offering suggestions to cover any dietary issues [gluten, no meat, spice levels]. Ginger beef, ginger tofu, yam fries were all great starters. Curry bowl was amazing, rice dishes tasty and noodle bowl was hearty. Deserts were spot on as well and change regularly.
Won't be back. Restaurant opened and 11, we arrived for a reservation at 12. After ordering we were informed that they were out of all noodles and couldn't prepare a noodle bowl. The menu is not extensive and I expect that is a common item ordered. After we changed our order we were told it would take 30 minutes - for a curry rice bowl. On the way out I also noticed some draught beers taps were marked as being unavailable as well.
Love the ambiance the food the service and the jazz music.
They eliminated the beer I like.
I enjoyed my latest birthday at KOI. What a great experience it was for me. Live music, great food, friendly staff. Just a great night out
Love this place! The live music is always a blast, and the drinks/food are great too. Highly recommend the steak sandwich.
Had a Wonderfull dinner before heading to a show. Delicious Chai Tea and Gyozo to start had us wanting more. Main dishes were Vegetarian Curry and my Meat Curry. Great spices. Options for Vegans and Gluten Free as well. Look forward to going back for more!
We were not prepared for the music to start at 7pm. The cafe is far too small to have live music while eating a meal. The music was so loud that my sister in-law had to leave because their child would not stop crying. People had to speak louder and louder to be heard over the music which made dinner table conversation pretty much impossible. To be honest the music ruined our dinner.
The food was ok. We ended up with the wrong entree, but staff were accommodating in fixing this. As someone who eats a plant-based diet I would say the meals were good but nothing special, with the exception of the tofu entree which was excellent.
Nice live jazz/blues and casual Asian style food. Friendly service in an intimate setting. I understand that there are other live music, comedy, and poetry evenings on a regular basis.
Good but food was slow to arrive. Overall a good experience
Great ambience and food as always. :)
Made reservations for Christmas Eve. Received a confirming email as well as an email request I reconfirm.
Arrived at Koi's right on time. They were closed. Ever tried to find an alternate oh Christmas eve on short notice? Thanks a lot from me, my family and our guest. Never again.
This place is your quintessential hidden gem. Try the kim chi fried rice and for sure the ginger beef. Not your traditional in the least. Soooooo good!
Thank you so much for the glowing review! The Kimchi Fried rice is a common favourite on the new menu!
So ive been to koi 2 times in total and completely loved it. The food was above average and the service on point. The open mic that they host is amazing. Everyone should go check out the fine mix of artists jams. But reseve a spot because she fills up quick! I'll be back again for sure!
