Knight's Original Steakhouse - Dexter Ave
As a traditional steakhouse, our steaks, prime rib, chicken, burgers and seafood are a main focus of our menu. However, we are equally proud of our other menu choices, including an assortment of salads, sandwiches, and pastas.
Each day we strive to improve our customers’ experience by raising standards on our service and menu items. Knight’s is renowned for serving a mixed drink you would proudly serve to guests at your home and at an exceptional price. We also offer a wide selection of draft and bottled beers and an extensive wine list.
Since 1952, the Knight family’s philosophy has been to provide customers with good value, exceptional service, and excellent food and drinks.
absolutely! this restaurant is an Ann Arbor institution with the best beef in town, in my opinion
Knights was very accommodating when I asked in my reservation if I could have a cushioned seat made available for my 85 yr old aunt, which they did without question. It was great and so appreciated. The only reason you didn't get 5 stars was that the noise level was a bit high making it difficult to have a nice conversation. - even if my guest wasn't 85! Thanks for a great night!
Excellent food and friendly staff, especially on such a busy holiday! We reserved a table over a week ahead of time and our orders were taken and food was recieved in a very timely manner. The only downfall to the evening was that we got the worst table possible. It was small for two people but right across from two large party tables-and right next to the kitchen where their was a lot of noise, and close foot traffic moving food and drinks. There were plenty of other small two person tables in better locations-that people who walked-in got. If I were walking in and had to wait to be seated and this was the table I would have gotten, that would have made sense. But for a reservation that was made weeks prior, and for such a late time in the evening, it would have been nice to have a better seating option open. But again it was a busy holiday and going to Knight's at any of their locations is always a nice time with delightful food. Thank you!
I booked a reservation for my wife and myself on Valentine’s Day and booking was smooth and easy. We arrived about 10 minutes late for our reservation (called ahead to let them know and they said it was no problem) and we waited less than 5 minutes for our table. It was busy but we never felt neglected or crowded. I ordered the Delmonico (medium) and my wife ordered the Sirloin (also cooked medium). We had catfish bites and shrimp appetizer that were great. My wife’s steak came as she ordered but mine came medium rare and the waitress agreed it looked too fleshy for medium. They put it back on the grill no problem and it came back right. I had double portion of mixed veggies (asparagus, squash, and carrots) and my wife had veggies and sweet potato fries (outstanding). No specialty lemonades (wife loves those) but good dinner overall. Two seafood appetizers and two steak dinners (no drinks) for $85 before tip. We plan to go back. Forgot to take pictures.
I have been going to Knights since they opened the doors and never have been disappointed. On Valentine's Day we had reservations and were seated within 5 minutes of our time. Restaurant was crowed but service and food was excellent for such a busy night.
Excellent as always. Blackened pork chops were cooked oerfectly. Great rolls. Great service. Sat on the balcony which is a fun place to sit.
Although the food was good, I will probably choose the newer Knight’s Steakhouse in downtown Ann Arbor next time. The decor at the original Knight’s is really dated and has a distinct smell of cigarettes.
It was pretty busy--and loud, definitely not a place for a quiet conversation but food was excellent and so was the service.
Knights had terrific food and great service. It was a great night out with friends.
Overall the food was fantastic!
Don’t go on weekend and maybe week day from 5-7 - very busy and loud. Sat by kitchen door and only accepted it because we had to leave in a set amount of time. Made a reservation.
I suggest better for off hour meal times even for lunch.
Excellent food prepared the way you requested. Very fresh. Friendly and efficient service.
The best prime rib ever!! ♥️
I have and will continue to recommend Knights too all my family and friends!!!
Fantastic food, drinks and excellent service. The quality of the food and the honest pour drinks erase the higher noise level of this very popular local spot. Comfortable spot for casual or business casual attire and get togethers.
I’m a local and frequent visitor of knights. Brought colleagues from Germany to share the experience. Big steaks, strong drinks and great staff. Always worth the visit.
Best pour in town!
Excellent food quality. Though, preferred the previous bread basket from before (it's been at least a year).
Excellent experience! The service was great, the food was absolutely delicious! Our family would Highly recommend this restaurant!
Fun and great choices for good food. A lively gathering for Friday nights.
Great food wait staff very popular place get there early or get reservations
Two factors relate to this rating. first, we ordered the special which was pork schnitzel. It was overcooked and dried out. More importantly, as we were waiting to be seated, we had a reservation but still had to wait nearly 20 minutes for a table, there was a table bar the bar with 5 people playing cards and only one person eating. It turns out it was the owner with his friends at the table. I think it was a poor choice to occupy a table in the open like that playing cards and drinking while people are lined up waiting for a table. At least hold the card game up stairs out of sight. In my opinion, the owner showed little respect for his customers. I'm not sure we'll return.
Great night, Rachel is great.
You can't say you live in Ann Arbor until you eat at Knight's. Great food, even better service. Seafood specials are inventive and delicious. Best kids' menu around. Great steaks, great burgers and perfect consistency.
Knights has been an Ann Arbor institution for decades. Their drinks are what makes them unique (generous pour). The menu is varied with excellent meats. Fish choices are very good.
For a birthday celebration, it was wonderful! Great food, drinks and service. The free dessert great!
Wonderful as always. Our favorite Ann Arbor restaurant.
Wonderful meal at Knights. The PEI mussels with their rolls for dunking can’t be beaten as an appetizer.
All of their steaks are great. A real favorite is the “London Broil” ( really flank steak). The way it is marinated really gives the flank steak a wonderful flavor.
At Lunch the burgers are a cant go wrong item.
Drink was awesome! Be careful though one was all I could handle
This visit, unlike all the many many others I've had, presented my steak quality as a lower level. Not tender and a bit gristley (not sure how to spell that).
Always great food and service. We have never been disappointed.
Food was very good, but limited options for non steak people. Quite pricey. I would have liked more one chicken choice. Wine list is average. A bit too directed at old rich customers. Not my first choice in Ann Arbor.
It is a very busy place and during dinner hours reservations are a must. We were there on Saturday at 6:30 pm and those without reservations had over an hour wait. The down side is that the place is crowded and extremely noisy. If you can dine upstairs. The noise level there is much less than the main floor. The food is very good and beef is the specialty.
I really like being able to make reservations online and we were seated immediately in a booth.
Brye is an unbelievable waiter. This place gets better with age. The best townie place to eat in the city.
We were there for dinner last Friday night. My steak was drastically over cooked and was not visually appealing. I looked like it never saw a cast iron skillet or an open flame. My wife's dinner came out cold. Best part of the night was the beer list and the chili was very good. Very disappointed after all we have heard. Won't be back unfortunately.
Excellent prime rib. First time I have tried it, although we go to Knight's often. We had a very quiet table on the first floor, on the side near outdoor seating.
Tables packed too closely together.
Not well equipped for handicapped.
VERY, VERY, VERY noisy.
A few strikes against Knights on this visit- we made a reservation through Open Table and were told we’d still have to wait 20 minutes. Then, we were seated in the upstairs- I would take the upstairs on a Friday night if I dropped in last minute. But, people who take the time to make a reservation shouldn’t be relegated to the awful upstairs.
At dinner, they were out of items. We had our heart set on something and it was out. Shame on them.
Upstairs, the drinks are made by the server. I ordered the top shelf margarita and the server was going to use Cuervo. That’s not top shelf. Downstairs, the bar knows what a top shelf margarita is.
The au jus with my French dip was ice cold. My French dip was rare not medium well.
All the way around, Knights didn’t meet our expectations.
And the shame of it is, they don’t care!
As long as the drinks are strong, they have a committed audience and they don’t have to strive for quality.
Was awesome for a first date, the Christmas decor was also a topic of discussion (good). The server was very good, he paid just enough attention but also allowed us to enjoy each other. The only knocks we had was the amount of onions on the nachos appetizer was overpowering in our opinion and the Ruben lacked enough sauce, but those are very minor and detracted very little from our meal which was amazing. Definitely be back! My date really wanted your stained glass at the entry she loved it.
Knights has great hamburgers and the best drinks in town!
