About Knight's Original Steakhouse - Dexter Ave
Celebrating 30 years of business in 2014, the original Steakhouse on Dexter Rd in Ann Arbor started the Knight’s restaurant legacy with our famously potent cocktails and signature dishes. Our philosophy is to provide customers with exceptional value, service, and food.
As a traditional steakhouse, our steaks, prime rib, chicken, burgers and seafood are a main focus of our menu. However, we are equally proud of our other menu choices, including an assortment of salads, sandwiches, and pastas.
Each day we strive to improve our customers’ experience by raising standards on our service and menu items. Knight’s is renowned for serving a mixed drink you would proudly serve to guests at your home and at an exceptional price. We also offer a wide selection of draft and bottled beers and an extensive wine list.
Since 1952, the Knight family’s philosophy has been to provide customers with good value, exceptional service, and excellent food and drinks.

Knight's Original Steakhouse - Dexter Ave Ratings and Reviews
Knight’s is an Ann Arbor staple, providing consistently reliable food quality, personable service & dollar value. When considering dining options in Ann Arbor, it’s difficult to resist a Knights dining option. Our visit delivered the same satisfaction as always - the steak & fish was perfectly done, and the drinks were robust.
This is a down home place offering many kinds of good food. The prices were higher than we expected, but the menu and cuisine did not disappoint. We would have liked some small plate options, or smaller versions of some of the main menu items. The amounts served seemed oversized.
Service was basic and timely. The biggest drawback was the noise. It was Valentine's Day and it was very difficult to hear. We will probably try again on a quieter evening.
first off there were numerous floaters in the neat bourbon pour. the server obviously had other things on her mind than attending to a 'old guy' customer. it took just under 10 minutes for her to circle back around to correct and at that point I am thinking, "great, one of those evening's, eh?" things picked up when my co-diner arrived and dinner of steak for him and salmon for me was well prepared and a pleasing recovery to the eh beginning. we did enjoy a good meal and where treated well for the remainder of our stay. I like this place and will return, but it is clear from the ongoing interaction that if you are not a 'regular' diner, the service will be only so-so.
This has been our favorite restaurant for over 20 years. The ambiance is warm and welcoming and many of the customers practically feel like part of the Knight family. Don Knight, Jr is the penultimate host. The food is delicious, the specials often very creative, the beef is perfection.
One tip - all drinks ordered as singles are usually doubles in reality. It's a Knights tradition and if you are aware of their "long pour" you'll be fine.
Family favorite for Birthday celebration. Our dinner was delicious and the appetizers were amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant for the delight of all your guests. Our server was outstanding and very attentive. Tuesday dinner and the place was very busy.
Knight's is a great place for tasty food with fresh meat from Knight's market. Their desserts are terrific, too. We especially like the cozy feel of this location, with lots pictures of the local area (Go Blue!) and separation between the different dining areas to help keep the noise down.
Though it was a Monday night, I didn't expect to have such a rowdy crowd at the bar. We went for a date night and was hoping for a steakhouse atmosphere, especially considering the meal cost, but instead had people yelling and cursing at the basketball game, so much so that the bartender had to quiet them down. The service and drinks were great, but the food was mediocre at best. This is the 3rd or 4th time we've been there but will be thinking twice next time.
Knight's is great for handmade classics. I especially enjoy the walleye special. Nothing fancy, just fresh fish cooked with a light touch. Some of their soups are outstanding. This night was the cabbage/sausage soup. Soup or salad is included with the entree.
Other than having to wait an extra 30mins after the reservation time, it was a pretty good place. Great for watching sports and catching up with friends. The menu is different than their downtown location. And don’t mention or ask the waiter about it- they seem to not be too fond of the comparison.
We waited an unusually long time for our table, despite our reservation, but it was extremely busy and people didn't want to leave their tables, since it was about 3 degrees outside. Once we were seated, our waiter was outstanding. The food was above average, no fancy presentations, but very good, and not overpriced. We took a table upstairs, and it was nice and quiet (not so downstairs that night). Our orders arrived without long delays, pretty amazing considering how busy they were. It was overall a very satisfying experience. They are quite expert at making delicious potatoes. I don't usually eat potatoes, but the twice-baked was too good, and my husband's fries were amazing. And you don't need more than one cocktail!
Knight's knows how to cook meat dishes and you will not go wrong with their prime rib dishes. Prices for food and wine are quite reasonable and they let folks split dishes at no extra charge. (That is especially nice for geezers like us.) The wine list is modest but well chosen and again quite reasonably priced. It is big and always packed but one can chat without shouting-a big plus IMHO. We will definitely return soon.
Our group of four Very Seasoned Diners where cheerfully seated by pleasant hosting staff and attended immediately by server Kelsey. The generous drinks, oysters, prime rib, salmon and spaghetti (there's one deviant in every group) made for a delightful dining experience. Our youthful server was not intimidated by 4 crusty old guys and did her job with aplomb. We will be back for more, thank you.
We were out-of-towners staying in Ann Arbor for the OSU-Michigan game. We wanted a nice restaurant that was not a chain restaurant. We made reservations for 8pm. Upon arrival, we were informed there was approx a 15-20 min wait beyond our reservation time. It ended up being around 15 min. They took us to our table upstairs and the rest of service moved quickly. Everyone was friendly, the atmosphere was darker, friendly, and fun. There was a mixture of casual dress and people dressed up so no matter what you were wearing you would feel comfortable. The decor was unique and we liked it. We got the London Broil and the Filet Mignon, both we loved. The potatoes were good but nothing spectacular. I did not eat the asparagus that was also served. The salad was pretty basic, just greens with dressing and a cucumber and cherry tomatoes. Overall, the experience was great although I would say a little overpriced... I would recommend to others and would eat there again.
Classic steakhouse that's been around forever. We made our reservations through OpenTable and had no issue with getting seated. We were greeted by a cheerful hostess and led to our table. Our friendly and capable server answered any questions and took our order. Good strong drinks to start; adequate side salad; outstanding fried shrimp and Thai chile sauce appetizer; top quality filet mignon steaks cooked exactly as ordered; good side dishes, too. Disappointing wine list on the table, but didn't ask for a Reserve List. Had a Rhone Red went with the meal that went fairly well with the meal. We will be back!
