About Knight's Original Steakhouse - Dexter Ave
Celebrating 30 years of business in 2014, the original Steakhouse on Dexter Rd in Ann Arbor started the Knight’s restaurant legacy with our famously potent cocktails and signature dishes. Our philosophy is to provide customers with exceptional value, service, and food.
As a traditional steakhouse, our steaks, prime rib, chicken, burgers and seafood are a main focus of our menu. However, we are equally proud of our other menu choices, including an assortment of salads, sandwiches, and pastas.
Each day we strive to improve our customers’ experience by raising standards on our service and menu items. Knight’s is renowned for serving a mixed drink you would proudly serve to guests at your home and at an exceptional price. We also offer a wide selection of draft and bottled beers and an extensive wine list.
Since 1952, the Knight family’s philosophy has been to provide customers with good value, exceptional service, and excellent food and drinks.

Knight's Original Steakhouse - Dexter Ave Ratings and Reviews
We were out-of-towners staying in Ann Arbor for the OSU-Michigan game. We wanted a nice restaurant that was not a chain restaurant. We made reservations for 8pm. Upon arrival, we were informed there was approx a 15-20 min wait beyond our reservation time. It ended up being around 15 min. They took us to our table upstairs and the rest of service moved quickly. Everyone was friendly, the atmosphere was darker, friendly, and fun. There was a mixture of casual dress and people dressed up so no matter what you were wearing you would feel comfortable. The decor was unique and we liked it. We got the London Broil and the Filet Mignon, both we loved. The potatoes were good but nothing spectacular. I did not eat the asparagus that was also served. The salad was pretty basic, just greens with dressing and a cucumber and cherry tomatoes. Overall, the experience was great although I would say a little overpriced... I would recommend to others and would eat there again.
Classic steakhouse that's been around forever. We made our reservations through OpenTable and had no issue with getting seated. We were greeted by a cheerful hostess and led to our table. Our friendly and capable server answered any questions and took our order. Good strong drinks to start; adequate side salad; outstanding fried shrimp and Thai chile sauce appetizer; top quality filet mignon steaks cooked exactly as ordered; good side dishes, too. Disappointing wine list on the table, but didn't ask for a Reserve List. Had a Rhone Red went with the meal that went fairly well with the meal. We will be back!
The restaurant was enjoying a Friday evening full house. With reservations we walked past a dozen or so waiting to be seated - so reserving is recommended. We were headed to the theater afterward so an on time seating was important. The major negative was the noise level. But the menu has plenty of good choices and the food was good.
We have lived in Ann Arbor for a few years now and I had never heard of Knight's but clearly many others had. It was very busy but we were seated quickly due to making a reservation through Open Table. Everyone in our party really enjoyed their food! So glad we stumbled across this local gem.
Classic steakhouse. Classic Ann Arbor. No frills. Solid service and a general great atmosphere. This is a townie hang out. Busy, but we never felt neglected. When we arrived we were told it would be a 20 minute wait even though I had made an Open Table reservation. I was a bit disappointed but being a big football game weekend I was not too surprised. We ended up waiting about 5 minutes. All 5 of us enjoyed our meals.
Food was great, service was not. Order was not correct. Told another server who delivered the food. Still wasn't fixed. Our appetizer sauce sat on the table the entire meal. No water refills (had to ask for water when ordering). No dessert offered, we definitely would have ordered.
Had the pleasure of visiting the steakhouse during a visit with our daughter who is a student at Eastern Michigan. This place exceeded our expectations and we loved all of it. Being from Columbus area and Ohio State alumini, we are amazingly happy with the area and the service!
Well, I would recommend Knights under certain circumstances. If you want a cocktail, probably sit at the bar or at least downstairs. They don't have a cocktail menu but serve the classics I'm sure. I really would not recommend sitting upstairs under any circumstances. It's definitely quieter but feels like 'Grandma's attic' as my wife said. The food was ok. $32 for a petit filet. It was ok but lacked any real presentation. I probably would not bring my kids again. I'm sure other will feel different but that's my impression.
This restaurant is A CLASSIC. Roadhouse feel with a stiff pour. The decor is like a visit to the 70's. Carpet on the walls! Place is always packed. During this visit Jay was our server. He is hands down the most attentive and considerate server we've had at any restaurant. He is truly kind and we will always ask for him for as long as he works there. Thank you Jay.
