What Insiders Are Saying
Knee-High Stocking Company in Capitol Hill is one of the best Seattle “speakeasies.” Make a reservation and prepare for a lot of good cocktails.
We wished we were seated downstairs with better ambiance. Also, the servers very very inattentive
This place gets it when it comes setting the tone and overall fusion. The drinks have a deep south elegance and western flare. The food ushers in a Filipino comfort food blending in the Asian influence into the fold. Great place for a date and renting a place for a event that requires intimacy.
We loved the absinthe and the spanish tuna plate. ......
Amazing drinks and fun atmosphere. We were only planning on staying for 1 drink but ended up ordering 3! Great for a first date and the speak-easy vibe is really fun
I love this place: the delicious food, the unique cocktails, the gorgeous period decor. My only disappointment was that we were seated in the entryway dining area as opposed to downstairs where the most beautiful decor is. Seriously, gorgeous. Of course, the mural in the upper dining room is lovely and the view of the upstairs bar is also lovely. The prices were more expensive than we originally thought but it was so delicious that it was worth it. Definitely a must-see if you’re in Seattle—just make sure you make a reservation in advance.
Second visit, service and craft cocktails were outstanding!
Knee High Stocking was a fun experience with interesting food and drinks!!
Amazing atmosphere for any occasion. Definitely worth a return visit
Overall great experience. Lumpias were delicious. The only negative about food is really small portions for the price.
Awesome cocktails and un-ordinary Filipino food - easy, casual vibe!
Great speakeasy. Unique drinks. Server was awesome. Girlfriend loved it
Funky, cozy spot - great for a special occasion or that"wow" factor. Cocktails were intricate and complex, and the bartenders were amenable to substitutions and also making simpler options (hint: best gin & tonic!). Filipino food was superb, filling and just spicy/greasy enough to suit the mood. Service was attentive and careful, despite the volume of customers. Only criticism: Background music was on the louder side which strained conversation at times.
The ambiance and essence of this special gem is very much in the style of a proper speak easy. The entrance is a little hidden, the light is low in lounge, and the bartender dedicated to making specialty cocktails. The mixologist will take time to perfect your boozy libation. While the wait staff is a little inattentive, the drinks and food offset the wait time.
It took an hour for our drinks to come out, the food was overpriced and not very good.
ad fsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss a
Love that it's hard to find! Would definitely come back!!!
Compared to other cocktail bars that I have been to in the city, my experience was just ok. Our staff seemed distracted and while they offered to make a drink based on our preferences they never actually told us what they made. I would go again if I was close, but of the many similar types of place in Seattle, I won't go out of my way to visit.
Had a nice stop in for some apps and a late night cocktail.
Lovely cocktails, great food but a little cramped. Downstairs seemed roomier and had a much more 'speakeasy' vibe, but we sat upstairs next to an open window.
Amazing bartender (Mihail)! Amazing (although very expensive) cocktails
We did a small tour of Speakeasy's in the area last Friday and hit a few in the area. The ambience at Knee High didn't seem like a Speakeasy which is what we were hoping for, but more of a corner bar. When we first sat down, the bartender didn't pay us much attention - quite different from the spot we'd visited just before this one. After awhile we were finally greeted and upon asking a few questions the bartender warmed up and it was a better experience. Great martini - he nailed it. We didn't order food so I can't speak to that, but the drinks were good. For a more "Speakeasy" style experience, I would recommend doing something more with the general seating area. The bar area fit the description a bit better but general seating felt like a standard cafe so we moved from a table to the bar. I liked the doorbell to get in, that added to the feel. I would make a few little changes, but it was overall a good time.
I would have recommended Knee-High a couple of years ago. A few things have changed since then. The cocktails seem less interesting (but that may be just me; maybe my tastes are changing). The hostess the last few times has been quite impatient, curt and snotty. The bartender during my last visit was a delight and creative. But the previous bartender was a jerk and snob, and the bartender before him was friendly but pretentious. The music has worsened considerably. It used to be that, whenever I went in, Knee-High jazz was playing. Nearly every time for the past year, all I hear is bass-heavy, thumping electronic.
When I moved to the city a few years ago, people mentioned Knee-High as a place worth visiting. Nobody does anymore. I'm not surprised. The staff are less friendly. The drinks are worse. The ambience has become less interesting and no longer offers a pemium over other clubs to justify the cost of the cocktails (other beverage prices seem standard).
The service window in the upstairs kitchen ruins the upstairs-bar experience. That space used to feel cozy, like a hidden, quieter corner in the back of the bar. Sitting there now feels like sitting next to the front door -- uncomfortable and drafty.
The rudeness of the hostess last time I was there deserves special mention. A friend and I had come in at 8 (half an hour before our reservation) and were seated at the bar because there happened to be space. Around 9:40 the hostess asked us if we were going to have another drink. When I said "no, we're fine" (our drinks weren't even empty), she broke eye contact, curtly put the bill on the counter directly in front of me, and, without a word, walked away. We had been at the bar for 1 hour and 45 minutes -- 1 hour and 10 minutes after our reservation started. Her message was obvious: "get out." Mission accomplished. Neither my friend nor I will make the mistake of coming back.
Don was an excellent bartender. Total professional and a pleasure to speak with.
The thrill of these hidden gems will never wear off. The service was excellent, the vibe was engaging. My date thought it was the most wonderful and romantic place. Thanks for making that happen.
If you like the hidden bar experience, knee high is Totally worth it.
Great environment and the drinks were solid. Reservations highly recommended, the place is pretty small.
Very good drinks if your willing to spend 15 and 20 a cocktail! Didn’t try the food, service was a little slow but was a pretty cool place
Great atmosphere. The server was very attentive and made some excellent suggestions. The food was outstanding, especially the Adobo Pork sandwich, and we had a few of the best cocktails we’ve ever had.
Nice place with great ambiance. Different and exciting cocktails and there something for everyone. Food was delicious.
Finding the place and parking was a challenge. Would advise to uber there instead of driving.
Nice spot for a drink on a weekday, not sure how crowded it gets on the weekends. Definitely place a reservation beforehand for gaurenteed seating. Drinks were fantastic - my partner got the "Thank You For Smoking" and I asked for a gin-based shrub, both very tasty and very strong. Our server was really attentive and friendly!
Food is too expensive. If you buy from the outside it costs $11 but from inside it’s $19, crazy!
Venue is wonderful, cocktails were amazing, food was good - we had to change our order as the kitchen ran out of rice! the service was hit and miss - food was slow coming out and some meals were incorrect when they did arrive. The bill wasn’t updated to reflect our new orders sans rice and when we explained this to our server she assumed we were trying to dupe her out of her standard 20% tip!
I think it would have been a different experience if we were in the room where the bar is, but we were in the other room (closer to the entrance). The service was great though, and the waitress gave us awesome recommendations for cocktails.
Stumbled upon this place while organizing a pub crawl and was lucky to get a 10pm seating last Saturday night. There's a slight attitude at the door, but that quickly gives way to the warmth of the inside. The drinks were imaginative and we gave the bar folks creative license. The food was awesome and easily shared. Fun & different for sure.
I didn’t actually have any food but a rating was required
10 out of 10. Fantastic. Our server was super suave and was there when we needed him and didn’t bug us when we didn’t need him. Food was awesome, drinks were great. Great ambiance. Was there with family, but I think this would be a really great spot for a date.
An excellent experience. We randomly decided to cancel an earlier reservation and try this establishment out. It was a gamble, but one that paid off handsomely.
We sat at the bar, highly recommended. The small space meant that we had a literal 'front row seat' to watch the master mixologist create drink after drink, all with multi ingredients and top shelf alcohol. There was an herb garden of rosemary, lavender, mint, etc, a bowl of eggs and dozens of house-made mixes and bitters. The bartender was super cool, open to chatting and offering up tastes, just in case we wanted to know....
Food was excellent as well. A steak sandwich for me and pork adobo bowl for the lady. Both, full of flavor and portioned just right. We conversed with others at the bar, enjoying and sharing stories through the evening. It was a bit on the 'spendy' side, but at no point did it feel like it was 'too much.' You get fine food, drink and service for what you pay. We will make this a regular place for special occasions and whenever we want to upscale it a bit.
Bartender was very rude, cursing at the bar, and left randomly. drinks were overpriced for what they were.
Going away get together with a few friends. Nice and Cozy on a wet Seattle Sunday night. Server had great recommendations and was super nice. Atmosphere was nice and chill . It got much busier about the time we left. Had the best Sazarac custom made to my liking.
Great speakeasy near downtown Seattle. Reservations are a must, but totally worth it!
