Kith / Kin
Celebrating his heritage ranging from Nigeria and Jamaica, to West Africa and the Caribbean, to New Orleans and New York, and now immersed in The Wharf of Washington D.C., Chef Kwame finds his culinary impetus in everywhere he's from, everywhere he's been, and the influence of those who know him best.
We invite you to share in the story. To indulge in flavors with substance. And to take a seat at the table. Because this is a place where all are friends and a member of the family.
Welcome to Kith/Kin.
My girlfriend and I experienced terrific service and the food was incredible! We had the Uni Escovich as an appetizer and it was amazing. The oxtails and shrimp were delicious although the shrimp sauce was a little salty.
Our waiter Nick was vet friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in recommending favorite dishes. Overall Kith/Kin provided excellent service to include unsolicited visits from both the manager and the bartender to ask about our experience. Great place!
The food was generally very good. The rice was a little salty from my perspective and not enough pigeon peas.
I had an amazing time and plan on returning very soon.
Favorite restaurant during our DC visit. We had the Oxtail and jerk chicken brussel sprouts and cucumber and avocado. Everything was delicious. Great waterfront location as well.
Fabulous food and wonderful service!
Nothing negative to say about this place at all. My girlfriend and I had a great time and the food was amazing.
The cabbage was a little too salty. Otherwise food was good.
We had the goat and the trout. The food was super.!!! We rfeally like this place
I went to Kith/Kin for my birthday and it was a wonderful experience! I had the goat roti, which was simply excellent - tender, flavorful, and a surprisingly good usage of celery. The bar made me the best French 75 I've ever had (high praise, I've had quite a few) and they brought a delicious coconut orange cake out as a birthday treat. 12/10 would recommend.
The food was amazing but it was very very loud and hard to have a conversation.
Really enjoyed dinner at this vibrant new restaurant. Our waiter knew about every dish, and made great recommendations. Scallop and cauliflower dish was delicious, and the whole snapper served at other tables was very impressive. Looking forward to going back.
One of the best meals I've had. We've eaten here twice and the food is beyond good...
Cocktails are definitely expensive, but they are a cut above as well in terms of quality.
Dining at Kith/Kin was truly a remarkable experience. I went for lunch with the hubby and from the moment we were seated, the service was impeccable. Our server, Jose, was probably the most attentive and knowledgeable server I have ever encountered in a restaurant! He explained the entire menu to us, because of course I asked him 100 questions about it and he was very patient in helping us decide what to eat. We had the Brussels which were absolutely delicious. I didn't know what to expect from the Uni Escovitch, but the flavor profile was quite interesting and a nice surprise when I tried it. For the main dishes we tried the Jollof Rice, Braised Oxtails, and Goat Roti. Everything was seasoned so well. All the dishes are served family style which I love. The restaurant decor is beautiful. I will definitely be back!
Always a great place for breakfast - wonderful view, great food and great service. Great for business or pleasure.
First, we were seated at a 2-top table that was against a booth where the patrons kept walking between our table. It was disruptive and annoying. Repositioning that table may help.
The spicy food was incredibly spicy and salty. Elements of the jerk chicken dish were very good; the rice was a nice soft compliment to balance the spice. However the trout dish was very salty, as were the scallops in the barriscos appetizer. And the spice heat from the romanesco sauce and in the jollof rice were almost unbearable. And I have grown up with a palette trained on scotch bonnet.
Our meal did not include dessert. We did enjoy the mock tails, which were refreshing.
Overall, service was good and the ambiance was nice. The menu just may not be for me.
Mix of African, Caribbean and Louisiana is perfect! Nice to see that there are entrees that can also be vegetarian.
I had a horrible experience for my birthday. No one acknowledged the occasion. I was so disappointed. I used to recommend this restaurant to all my friends. The service was slow. It was not crowded. They sat a loud large party of ten next to us. Drinks took over twenty minutes.... one was just an arnold palmer. I pulled the manager aside as I left to share what happened. He said he would follow up with me tomorrow. He even confirmed my phone number. I won’t be back. How did this restaurant go down hill so fast?
Meh. Food felt tired and uninspired.
Chose this restaurant to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Our experience was MUCH nicer, last year at Eddie V's who took the time to recognize our special occasion and celebrated with us.
A+ service from all staff with incredible food.
Breakfast food was average. Not much ambiance.
The food and drinks took a long to
to be served and the oxtail and the red snapper were too sweat.
My husband and I came for our wessing anniversary dinner. All of the signature dishes that we tried were so delicious. The uni, jerk chicken, and oxtail are highly recommend, as is the rum cake for two. The service was also excellent.
Creative and flavorful food, beautifully presented. Waiter proud of restaurant and concerned about pleasing customers.
Bday celebration made special by the surprise cake brought to the table. Thank you!
This is a gourmet restaurant with outstanding service and a first-rate view of a vibrant passing scene.
Extraordinary food- we wanted to have the uni again it was so good- but were too full after the fantastic shrimp and the trout with Jolof rice. Wonderful meal!
Great service first impression of staff excellent overall classy atmosphere thank you .
Excellent date night or lunch. Upscale Caribbean restaurants are hard to find! #gem
Very good Afro-Caribbean diaspora oriented food. Such as unapologetically rich goat roti. I don’t know the “tribal” roots of (oooooh!) that oxtail. I’ve eaten both with delicious abandon on separate occasions, and the ethnic roots of food don’t really matter to happy taste buds. Next, I want the whole snapper that I saw a couple on the next table digging at with joy. I was tempted to ask to share — but that would be impolite. So, whole snapper next time!
The food was good but for the food to be shareable it was not worth the value. Everything tastes decent enough however me nor my date were blown away.
I’d possibly come back for a late night cocktail if I want to be on the fancier side. The drinks were strong, good and pricey.
I took my boyfriend to dinner at Kith/Kin on his birthday. I had noted the occasion in my reservation, and upon arrival they wished him a happy birthday (very thoughtful). The ambiance was great, and the service was amazing. The food is pricey (think $$$$), but we enjoyed the unique flavors and had a great experience.
Excellent but very expensive cocktails. Buzzy restaurant with a lot of energy at the bar, but almost intolerably loud for dinner. The food was very well seasoned, as expected, but having a sense of spice levels from the start would be helpful - some dishes were so spicy you couldn't really taste anything else afterwards. Would definitely go back for drinks, but not sure if I'd go back for dinner.
It was absolutely delicious. The oxtails were the best I ever had. My husband ordered the jollof rice and that alomg with the crispy skin on the escovitch was amazing. We will be going back for more.
I so enjoyed my meal and time spent at Kith/Kin, I definitely will go back again and again. It is now one of my new favorite restaurants. The menu is limited but anyone should be able to find something delicious to eat.
The beautiful dining room is as comfortable as it is stunning. While there were some minor service missteps, the service was still friendly and personal nonetheless. The menu is so well balanced that I had great difficulty choosing- I wanted EVERYTHING! I was so pleased with the food, really well done. Perfectly seasoned, great textures and strong flavors. Effortlessly executed and presented as only very personal food can be. Portions were huge, and we left full and content. I will absolutely recommend this restaurant to friends, family, and really anyone I talk to.
Came from out of town with family. Heard excellent reviews and my visit was outstanding.
The food and atmosphere was excellent.
The food is awesome and the location/ambience is also great. To earn a five star rating overall, the service level will have to be focused on by management and include perhaps additional staff and some training for the type of service that is generally expected by diners at a high end/expensive restaurant. To be fair, it should be noted that the restaurant was not super-busy on the week day that we dined for lunch and the restaurant appeared to be short-staffed. It should also be noted that while we are used to fine dining experiences with service to match, we are very laid back and the service level did not dampen our enthusiam for this restaurant. However, there is room for improvement. That said, we will definitely be return diners, since the food was that good.
Disappointed; was told this was a fine seafood restaurant but dishes were very spicey, concoctions , not just good old seafood
The food was excellent, the decor lovely, and the scenery (by the waterfront) fantastic. I was particularly impressed by the presentation of the food, flavors, and plate temperature-quite warm but not scalding hot. My only minor gripes are 1) the food took a while to arrive, 2) I was told I would get gluten-free bread but that never came, 3) I didn't see a drink menu, and 4) I didn't see a desert menu.
