Kith / Kin
Celebrating his heritage ranging from Nigeria and Jamaica, to West Africa and the Caribbean, to New Orleans and New York, and now immersed in The Wharf of Washington D.C., Chef Kwame finds his culinary impetus in everywhere he's from, everywhere he's been, and the influence of those who know him best.
We invite you to share in the story. To indulge in flavors with substance. And to take a seat at the table. Because this is a place where all are friends and a member of the family.
Welcome to Kith/Kin.
Lovely setting, good food, strong drinks.
The food at Kith and Kin and was strong but I don't think it was worth the amount that I paid. The two of us who dined at Kith and Kin are familiar with West African, Caribbean, and South Asian cooking, and didn't feel like this was the best experience that we had. I was surprised to be charged for sparkling water, and while the ambiance was perfect for a date night, the service was thoughtful and we certainly felt special, we hoped that the food would be as memorable as the check was!
We had seen Kwame on Top Chef, so we made the trip to try his restaurant—especially after the NYT named it one of the best in DC. It was phenomenal. You know from the beverage menu and the bread that this isn’t like other restaurants. It has a very rare polish that usually comes with years of experience, even though it’s a young restaurant. The menu is creative and everything we tried was delicious. Have you ever had uni roti? You can here! Ever had jerk chicken? Not like what they have here, you haven’t! We live 50 miles away but we will be back for sure and with a larger party!
Great first time experience! Hopefully, we can try again when we next visit Washington, DC!
We noted a very slow kitchen service for a late lunch period. I will warn friends. Server was menu knowledgable.
i would definitely recommend kith/kin as the food was creatively prepared and of excellent quality; portion size was adequate but prices are out of this world expensive. so, if someone else is taking you and paying or you want to treat yourself to an extraordinary meal, please gp and try it. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with the food. unless you're a lot richer than i am, or unless you eat on an expense account, it's not the kind of place where the average person could ever become a regular, but it certainly is a lovely place for a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
It was my husband’s birthday dinner and the meal was perfect as usual. This was my third time dining here but my husband’s first time. The only issue was the error with processing my credit card. It appeared that the server swiped multiple times and in between the server came back to tell me that my card was declined. After I showed him the payment was processed through my bank’s app, he tried again and of course was able to close out our table
Spending a week in DC, this is my favorite restaurant so far. Creative and unique flavors like nothing I’ve ever tasted. Love the avocado cucumber dish with peri peri sauce, and the goat dish was tender and extremely flavorful The two mocktails on the menu Or well-crafted and lovely with our meal!
The good and service was excellent. Will defiantly tell friends to go.
We had a great experience with Shonta. She was amazing and described everything on the menu to us,
Fabulous setting with amazing food and great service
Amazing Food and Great Staff
My husband and I could not have selected a better place to dine on our first wedding anniversary. We kicked off our weekend in DC by having dinner here and our server, Travis, was phenomenal. The food was amazing because it was a perfect blend of Afro Caribbean spices. The decor and views from the Wharf are very cool, so we can’t wait to go back. Five star service!!! The management has superb staff and customer service.
Great service.. awesome waiter.. welcoming.. nice decor!!
Relax and experience interesting food with an African Caribbean nuance. Travis, our server was friendly and informative. Prices are consistent with the area. We love the floor to ceiling windows and the contemporary stylish environment.
Never disappoint. We built a weekend trip to DC around Kwame's restaurants. The food, presentation, service were all great. Amazing blend of flavors and cultural influence. We had to finish with the rum cake, highly recommend.
They were out of a lot of items. The menu is not vegan friendly. Servers not knowledgeable on ingredients. Appetizers not on the main menu it’s hidden in the drink menu in between cocktails.
Took a bit longer than expected to get seated, but the food and drink options were delicious. LOVED the smoked jerk wings and Caribbean mule.
Birthday dinner. Food was beyond amazing
The ambience, atmosphere, and service are great, but the food and drinks are way over priced for the amount served. $18 for a grey goose martini is a bit much. The menu is limited, however, the brussels and the oxtails are pretty good.
The flavour of the food has dropped slightly (jollof rice specifically) I preferred the former recipe. Still great though. Also, I think the wings you lot had last year should be brought back and made a permanent fixture on the menu, they were that good!
Wonderful attentive service and the food was delicious and different from other high end restaurants.
Our server Travis was outstanding and provided a lovely evening with outstanding service. To offer a few notes on the evening: the two-person tables are TOO close to each other, not allowing for any privacy in conversation at all. Even in soft tones, our private conversations interrupted each other. With regard to the menu, we recommend removing the COLD Carrot dish as the weather now is cold and this dish, when served cold and not room temperature, brings a chill to an already cold body and also does not allow the organic carrot flavors to come through. It is essentially too cold and too bland. Further, we recommend removing the pecan pie from the dessert menu because it too, is served too COLD. We understand to serve it room temperature or even warm (preferred), the pie would lose its shape. By being served cold, it lacks flavor and the crust is rock hard and unpleasant. There is not counterbalance with the cold ice cream. The Oxtails and Goat Roti were delicious and worth a trip back.
I made a reservation based on the glowing review in the NYT and maybe had unrealistic expectations. While the food was generally good, particularly the Uni Dip, Mom Dukes Shrimp and the Roti, the monkfish was rubbery and fishy and the brassicas a little bland. We ordered a bottle of rose, which we tasted at room temperature and asked to be served chilled. It came out slightly cooler but still warm for rose standards. It took a while to be served our meal, which allowed us to have a nice visit w our guest, though it was noticeable and a bit awkward.
Perfect atmosphere for a special date. It’s a little on the pricey side but everything was first class,
The food and atmosphere here is wonderful You walk in and you are greeted with a smile. Janee was our server and she provided great recommendations. I have already made reservations to come back next month. If you are planning to visit this restaurant please make reservations and be sure to allow yourself time to find parking. It is very challenging finding parking.
I would recommend Kith/Kin for the location, ambiance and service but not for the food. If you’re looking for authentic Caribbean food, go elsewhere.
My party and I ordered the jerk chicken, mushroom forest and the goat curry for our entrees. The goat was tender but the curry was very salty. Also it didn’t taste as if the goat was cooked in the curry, rather that the curry was added at the last minute. The jerk chicken was actually bbq chicken that one could get at any restaurant. I was extremely disappointed because I grew up eating jerk chicken and this was far from it. My friend whose a vegetarian liked the Mushroom forest.
The cheesecake desert was nice as was the coki beach drink. Overall, I felt we spent a lot of money on poor tasting, inauthentic food and for that reason I would not return nor recommend kith/kin.
I didn't know what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. I had the snapper entree and it was AMAZING!!! My appetizer was the avocado and cucumber, loved it. My night was complete with the chocolate chip cookie!! WOWZERS. I cannot wait to return :-)
we arrived early and they encouraged to get drinks in the bar as they got our table ready. Food was excellent--innovative, tasty and great variety of choices. only complaint we have--when we reserved we asked for as quiet a section of restaurant as possible because two of are hearing aide users. we were seated right in the middle of the restaurant with noisy tables all around us. we couldn't hear each other which is no fun when we were eating such great food.
Food was good! Support staff was great unfortunately the waiter was very slow and not attentive.
The service was stellar. Ordered the shrimp and rice and it was just ok.
EXCELLENT FOOD WITH MODERN TAKES ON CLASSIC CARIBBEAN AND AFRICAN CUISINE.
Amazing service. My waiter helped me pick the best combination for my first visit.
Their specialty cuisine is during Lunch and Dinner. Breakfast and Brunch is more traditional. Also, they don’t serve cocktails before 11am.
Excellent service, great menu recommendations, truly inventive menu. Best meal I have had in a while
I met Chef Kwame in Seattle at an event at Chef Edouardo’s JuneBaby. Very happy that I was able to score a table with my friends to try his food in DC. The restaurant is superb. As a vegan, I was happy that there were options. My table of 6 which included a 7 year old was very pleased. I highly recommend and look forward to my next visit.
Everything was great at the restaurant, but your website menu for Kith/Kin listed the red snapper as being $35 but the restaurant listed it at $65. Please correct because it caused a few awkward moments at the restaurant.
I loved everything about this restaurant. The food was great, the service was excellent and the ambiance was on point. It's a little on the expensive side but well worth it. I will definitely be going back.
Fabulous food accompanied by an enjoyable atmosphere and knowledgeable staff.
