Kitchen 21 was a very beautiful restaurant. Me and my husband spent our 15th Anniversary there. The food and decor was great!
Jonathan the Manager was outstanding. I spoke with a wonderful young lady with a Spanish name and I'm sorry her name escapes my mind. (maybe Isabella) She was the daytime Hostess and I was told Debra would be hosting and she was Outstanding as well. All the waitresses and waiters were awesome Jose showed us the Rooftop and Mustafa was so pleasant. We absolutely love the celebration and the food. We wanted seafood In the form of cooked fish and unfortunately no salmon or fish varieties were available. The was the only downer. The bartenders were great and we had a full blown blast. We are for sure returning...The band was setting up and we didn't stay but they were very nice as well. Mature crowd preferred and the background is wonderful for picture taking which we did an abundance on their swing!
Very nice restaurant! Spacious. I attended a jazz brunch, great atmosphere. I definitely plan to return to Kitchen 21 in the near future.
Great new venue on Coney Island! Was empty in preparation for a birthday party, but the food and service were great, and I can only imagine what this place must be like in Summer! Can't wait to go back!
Jazz lunch, was upscale,
Masquerade ball was great, band awesome, wish more people would have attended.
Establishment is large, space, great food, staff welcoming, love this place. Always trying to get friends to come for jazz brunch!!!
Atmosphere is Beautiful place just way too expense! food was very good but over priced. $1000 for 8 ppl and waiter didn’t even buy us a drink.
Food is amazing with a nice twist. Actually ordered off the menu with no complications, staff was friendly. I have visited the restaurant a few times for dinner and find myself going back often.
I went there with my wife and niece on Sunday October 8th to hear our friend Ms. Arlee Leonard sing. She was fabulous as always. Google her if you've never heard her. Our waiter Marlon was Top Notch and the food was amazing. Especially the make you own Sm'ores fire pit at the table. My niece loved that!! I live in the Northeast Bronx. Quite a ride for a Sunday brunch but I had such a good time, I will definitely be back.
Food was good but it took 55 minutes to get it!!. Not good and we missed the first 1/2 hour of the concert!!
6pm reservation.it took 15mins just to check in, then 25 mins to be seated. Waitress was excellent & apologized numerous times.
Kitchen sent out wrong food after 40 minute wait.
Lobster roll was horrible.
Would not recommend this place even for a drink.
My grandparents used to take me to Childs Restaurant in the late 60s so I've wanted to eat at Kitchen 21. My husband and I were going to see Chicago next door so we thought this was perfect, we'll eat at Kitchen 21. We made a reservation and when we arrived at 4:30, it was empty. We were seated all the way in the back, near the kitchen. There was lots of activity and finally got water. We were sitting talking and realized after 40 minutes, no menus or offer to have a drink. We flagged someone and asked for a wine list . . .20 minutes later we were given a bottle list. About 10 minutes later, we asked another person who finally gave us a wine by the glass menu. I guess they thought we were sitting there for over an hour for one glass of wine. We see other people now getting bread and butter, we had to ask someone if the bread was for special people, he said no, and brought us some. Now, it's an hour and 20 minutes, I went to the hostess who sent someone over 10 minutes later. So we order and brought the wrong food, it was for the next table who also waited a long time. We get our food and then someone brings the same order 30 minutes later. The lobster roll was good, the french fries, not so much. They put onion power and dill on their fries, why not just offer onion rings?? They did buy us a glass of wine for all the trouble. Bottom line, don't go there. There are other restaurants on or near the beach or maybe just go to the bar while you're on the beach.
Next time (and there will be a next time) I will forego the reservation because I was told both online and by phone that the LATEST seating available prior to the 7:30 concert I was attending was at 4:00pm - even though I wanted 5:30. When we arrived, it was apparent that many many tables were available and the restaurant didn't fill in until almost 6pm. I feel sure that walk-ins at 5 had no problem getting a table. But, despite this inconvenience, the room was impressive, the server was very friendly and the food/drinks were good. A gem of a location! I hope it succeeds for a good long time.
Great place to eat before going to a concert at the amphitheater
The burger was burned, did not come with what was in the menu. Service was subpar and since it was 10 at night I guess the kitchen did not care what they were serving. Maybe it is better in the daytime. Don't go at night.
I so much want to like this place... Coney Island needs casual dining alternatives, but the service here is so bad (albeit sometimes well-meaning) that we will most likely not go back. Some of the recipes are really good: calamari, fried oysters are imaginative, but were served almost cold. Another time we lucked out with a quickly served excellent burger and a beer. But most often it takes forever to get drinks if you are seated for a meal (more bartenders needed! especially before shows!) We have had better luck stopping by for a drink at the bar when the boardwalk is quiet. But that's not what it's about!
The building is amazing and the view from the rooftop bar...outstanding. Food was really good but service was so bad! Waitress just dropped the small special menu on the table and walked away...not a hello or welcome. She then ignored us for about 15 minutes. When she did come back, again never acknowledged us a customers just looked at her pad ready to write. We had to ask her for water and by the end of the meal, we noticed she never brought us the rolls that everyone else had. She pretended she thought she had brought them and kind of dismissed us. She actually made the experience unpleasant . Ask to be seated where the best server is working!
I honestly appreciated the service. From the moment I walked in the hostesses were super friendly and everyone on staff was a delight. Manana(forgive me if I misspell) was our waitress, and she was so considerate and patient, which was wonderful for my dinner party. The woman who refilled our glasses of water, the gentleman who brought out our dishes...all had smiles on their faces and were very welcoming. Please continue with your positive attitudes, much appreciated!! I will be back for Happy Hour!
Usually this place is great so I took my mom here for her birthday and it was a disaster. First they couldn't find our reservation. Then Mid way through dinner our waiter left because he said his commute home is long and left us with a different waiter. The waiter he left us with was horrible. He was nowhere to be found, we wanted to order more food and couldn't find him, and wound up running into the chef and asked him for more food, and then we asked the waiter for coffee and he brought out cappuccinos. We then asked him again to bring out coffee and then he brings out espresso. Finally when I see him again and ask him why he brought us this instead of regular coffee, he tells me it's because they don't want to make a new pot. Then they bring out dessert for my moms bday without a candle, and with a hair in it. I'm taking a break from this place. They don't have adequate/competent staffing. Managment needs to bring in a better team if they want this place to thrive. Too bad because this was becoming my "go to" spot for different occasions.
I never write reviews but feel it necessary to warn people because of our experience. Kitchen 21 is beautiful space, but extremely poor service and poor cooking execution made it a disappointment. We had to ask for cocktail and wine lists after sitting for 10 minutes and then waited 20 minutes for them to come because they were having a staff meeting while there were waiting paying customers in the restaurant. I had to approach the meeting to ask for menus. The restaurant was not busy but our food somehow took 50 minutes to be served and they managed to burn my son's pizza.
Ordered a Prime Surf and Turf Burger medium that came well done, completely dry. The pizza dough had no flavor, a sin in NYC. After taking our order, we didn't see our server until the table was cleared. We would have ordered more wine if anyone would have come by. The server asked if we’d like to see dessert menus. We said yes, and waited 15 minutes for them but they never came and our patience ran out so we flagged her down and asked for the check.
She brought an iPad and stood in front of me as I looked it over and signed. I find this to be poor practice because it makes the customer feel rushed to look over the bill. In doing so, I failed to notice the service fee was included and I tipped an additional 20%. We found it deceptive that the server did not as a courtesy, remind us that service was included which we normally experience whenever that is the case at other restaurants.
I wish we had a better experience because of the history and grandeur of the space, but it was a complete disappointment.
When I make a reservatiom through Open Table I expect to be treated with high priority. I was not. I tan to get my reservation after going to the Mary J show next door at the Ford Amphitheatre. There was so many walk up people I had to wait in a long line. P zeople from the line were not doing any business as the menu is limited after 11pm. I finally get to the hostesd and they see my reservation and I'm told to wait. Why? I waited 5 minutes and went to amother hostess telling her I have a reservation. I am used to having my table waiting for me with an Open Table reservation. I did not feel valued. After I showed my fustration with the lack of service a manager showed me a table. I still had to wait to order. The waitress went overboard to try and recoup their failure in my accommodation. I spent $40 which gratuity is included. I should have gotten something complimentary.
The wait was long and my friend food arrived late well after another table who arrived well after us. The staff work hard and they employee many local people. I gope the restaurant does well. It is nicely decorated.
This restaurant is conveniently located next to the Ford Amphitheater, a popular music venue. It's difficult to carry on a conversation due to the noise. The fried calamari appetizer was tasty but a bit rubbery. The classic pizza was good, but the lobster roll wasn't worth the cost. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive.
Food was ok mediocre.... not a place for me to run to again.
Convenient If your going to theater next door but not very good food
This place is beautiful, ambiance is classic! Needs a little more time to settle in to the Coney Island vibe, and the Brooklyn theater! Food menu could be more diverse and flavor is not quite balanced. Enjoyed the evening, great to see new development in the area of Brooklyn.
The restaurant itself is very nice but the service is awful. From the minute you walk in it like no one has any idea what's going on. I made my reservations on the app at 6:10 for 6:30 it was confirmed for a specific seating area. When we arrived they told us that because we had just made the reservation we would have to wait till 7:30 because nothing was available in that area we could sit in the high top section. Which has a limited menu. But I had made a reservation! Made no sense. We gave in and sat there because we had concert tickets and could not wait.
The wait staff is just as lost as the hosts are. I had a glass of water dropped on me and the glass broke and shattered.
I didn't make a fuss it was only water but aside from a quick omg by the waitress it was never addressed. Other places would go out of their way to make sure it was ok.
It a shame because the food is pretty good and the location is great. But they need a whole new staff! This was our second visit here. We thought they needed to work out the kinks but I think they need to hire people with some experience. Most people I have spoke to have had similar experiences and said they will not be back.
Don't expect to be in and out of here unless you order from the walk up cafe. It took 15 minutes for a server to come talk to us. That was only after I went to speak to the hostess. The restaurant seemed very understaffed. The food was just okay. I hadn't the grilled cauliflower steak which was sub par. My boyfriend had the fish tacos that were severely under seasoned. I can say I had a chicken sandwich for lunch here's once and that was pretty good. I guess it's all in what you order here. Make room to spend time here. They have a good beer selection so if nothing else, just drink through the experience.
Loved this place. Food and service was great. The ladies restroom needs some attention. Out of 4 stalls, 2 had broken locks and one had flushing issues.
I went here before a concert at Coney Island. The waitress was great. I shared a very reasonable bottle of Rose for $35 dollars. We each got a biscuit to start the meal I ordered the crab cakes which were a nice portion size ( 3 total). They had a great taste. My sister got the lobster roll which she said was delicious. It also came with a huge plate of fries.
I had seen a picture of the smores dessert on the website so I wanted it. It is a mini-fire with all the smores tools. I was very happy to make smores at an air conditioned table. The chef was walking around the dining room and stop to ask how the meal was. The overall service was great.
Loved the front entrance and side cafe with arm chairs which I will return to next visit to the beach. Although I love my nathans hot dog this is a nice option away from the craziness of the broadway on a hot day.
Bumped into the chef on the way in - he saw we weren't sure where we were going and he walked us towards the restaurant giving us some food recommendations. Multiple servers - all were friendly and polite. We got there at 5:00 PM before a concert and the service was great until the restaurant started getting crowded (it slowed down at that point). As expected as it got busier, it got noisier so a bit harder to hear. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and would return.
The food and drinks were really bad. We left most of both. Looks 10 Taste 2. Expensive to boot.
I walked into the restaurant and I was told that they could not accommodate me because they were completely booked. This isn't a flight or a hotel. I've never heard of a restaurant being sold-out. On my way to the restroom, I asked another server about the dining situation, the reply was; "it's open table." I then went online and reserve a table while in the restaurant. Amazingly, I was able to reserve a table. But I thought they were completely booked! Then I was told; ok, we'll sit you, but you will have to be out by 5pm. I made the reservation at 4:15pm and was seated by 4:25-4:30pm. I couldn't enjoy the moment. I only stayed because I had already driven a great distance...
Two stars only for design of restaurant and nice view from rooftop. I was there 3 times. First time was great . And then 2 times 👎 Stuff absolutely unprofessional . Why we have to pay 18% ?! last time our server came only 3 times to our table for 3 hours . Two of this she gave a wrong receipt with no sorry . We paid almost 600$ for dinner and drinks for 4 people . And she tried to deceive us. I'm still not sure if she didn't . Food was not so bad , but not for this money . And also glasses was dirty . Stay away from this place !
Kitchen 21 was a very nice over all experience. Staff was very courteous. Online reservation was easy and table was waiting for me at the time I selected. Also parking was super easy for a Coney Island location.
The food was very good. This was my 2nd time eating here. The only complaint is the service. The staff are very friendly, however I think their ordering system needs improvement. Drink orders at the table took 15 mins +. Drinks ordered while sitting at bar were much quicker. The place just opened in May so they still maybe working out the kinks so I would give it another shot.
Dragonberry mojitos rock, dry rub wings-da bomb, basil-mash-bliss, salted caramel ice cream n apple pie-heavenly. will go back for sure.
Very nice place for any occasion. There is lots of space and a rooftop area on the beach. The food was delicious. I loved their pizzas the most.
Great atmosphere and menu! Lots of variety on menu, something for everyone - including great cocktails. Service was good, very polite staff and servers. The staff may still be finding their groove but Kitchen 21 a great addition to Boardwalk - looking forward to dining there again soon!
The entrees came out before the appetizer. slow wait service. 18% gratuity put on checks regardless of party size.
Great open space with great food and drink. Not your father's eggcream is a must have!!
Parking is a bummer so take the train.
