KITARO Surf & Turf & Sushi is a 4000 sq. ft. restaurant that has seating for 140, large bar, patio dining for 40, and a private dining room that will seat 50. Been coming here for years and we always order the lobster tempura appetizer. It is usually a decent portion for the 4 of us, enough for everyone to get 2 or 3. Went there last night for my daughter's 6th birthday, and decided on 2 orders of tempura ($25 each) since there was 6 of us there. One of the baskets only had 6 pieces! Knowing from experience that this was not the standard amount, we mentioned it to the waiter. His manager told us that they couldn't provide us with anymore because they are portioned. What? Complained again and he said he would take one off our bill. Bill comes and nothing taken off. Waiter said the manager decided to give free dessert instead of discounting the appetizer. We were earlier told the dessert was free anyway for birthdays. And there are reviews stating free bday dessert, and we have received it free ourselves on other occasions. We feel swindled. On top of that, they added an $8 surcharge on top of the 20% tip. We weren't even asking for a discount but don't lie to your customers. All of this could've been resolved by providing us the correct amount of what we ordered. Dont short us AND make us pay $50 for it. Seems like they need money. We spend a few grand here every year, but wont be back for some time. My advice, if you go, cross your fingers that your orders are right. If not, you will deal with poor customer service.

Kitaro Sushi is one of the few restaurants in the area with unique and interesting choices. From the Lemon roll to the Chicago Bears Roll, everything tasted really fresh and high quality. We will definitely be back soon!

Good just wasn't as good as we hoped. Sides/sauces were served in disposable containers which seemed out of place considering the prices. Just okay overall. We would not make the drive to go here again.

Another great dining experience at Kitaro! Great food and excellent service again by our waiter Chris! Tried a couple different rolls this time, the Ocean and the Knucklehead, along with our favorite, Crabby Joe! These did not disappoint! Loved our Pear Martinis once again! Great job Kitaro!

Carey and Jon never disappoint with the new tastes dishes monthly and my wife loves the ever changing cocktails…beautiful out door seating allows You to enjoy the summers in NWI and eat food quality similar to Chicago

Such great food!! Sushi was amazing! Drinks great too- lavender drop so yummy. Our server was wonderful. The Chicago Bear was awesome! We will be back!

I enjoyed the experience at the restaurant. Appetizers were excellent, especially the crab Rangoon. Entrees were well overpriced for the amount of food received. 40$ for 1 rib, some veggies and a handful of rice was not worth it. We will be back to try other items in the future.
