Kirwan's on the Wharf

Service was excellent, however, I was disappointed in the food. I ordered a BLT with a side salad. Although the Irish bacon was very good, the toasted bread was soggy. No excuse sense the salad was in a separate bowl and the BLT was the only thing on the plate.
Better than expected Irish food! The burger was excellent, the meat was fresh and had spices blended. At 7 ounces it was just the right size-- huge but not insane. The steak and cheese was very good. My mom reported the chicken pot pie was amazing. The only complaint was the kids noodles dish didn't have a side and didn't have enough noodles. The kids chicken tender looked like a far better value.
My waitress was really nice, but she seemed like she had a long day, which was understandable , because it was lunch time. I had fish & chips,, and my friend had the steak sandwich, which he tore up, so that’s a good sign. The drinks were great! Overall I enjoyed myself, and would love to come back & try brunch
Very generous portions
I went for lunch with a friend. We both had fish and chips so I don't have a broad perspective on this place. The food was pretty good. The fish was in nice big chunks. The breading was a bit soggy and greasy. The chips were very crunchy on the outside and nice and tender inside. Service was not very attentive. It was also a very loud place. We were on the second floor and it was a little hard to talk. I'd go back again, but I can't rave about it.
Wanted a celebratory feeling place to go on the Wharf w/ good food & gluten free options & this was it! Wonderful! Only negative is no elevator to take to the upstairs.
The chicken pot pie was amazing. It was very quiet for a Friday lunchtime but we enjoyed ourselves. Will be back but without the car this time. The parking costs are outrageous.
A leisurely afternoon lunch with Excellent fish & chips, beer, and soup. Waterfront location was lovely. Noise:Very little. Lovely service.
We were here with a group of 8, including a couple kids, during cherry blossom "peak bloom," and they were so kind to put us upstairs at a big table. Our server, James, was lovely, and we really appreciated that he allowed one of us to use his phone charger while we were there. That's service! Five of us had the clam chowder, which is really good, and love the grainy bread they serve with it (wouldn't have minded a second slice, though). We did have one glitch - one of the meals did not come out until the rest of us were done eating. We were told that the kitchen accidentally ruined the plate of fish and chips, and they were making a second one, but it still seemed to take way too long to get that second plate out. They took that off the bill, which we greatly appreciated. All this said, the fish and chips were DELICIOUS. We really like this place, and we'll be back.
Average but service and food were very goidy
Great venue to meet friends and have fun. Beautiful interior with 3 bars. Great service and food. Highly recommended.
It was okay
We've been here several times for drinks, lunch or dinner, but recently went for Sunday brunch. The traditional Irish breakfast was fabulous, as was the friendly service.
We were a party of 10, they have have accommodate us in a really convenient spot.
The service was really good, the food super good and we wait the dishes just a few minutes
Food was average, friendly staff but service was average, barely filled my water once. I mentioned it was a special occasion, my bosses birthday and asked if they could do a little dessert or something and they totally forgot. Probably wouldn’t come back again, much better restaurants in the wharf than this place.
Kirwan's - just always good. Great food and service. Thank you!
Kirwan's is totally okay. Not a truly special place. But decent food with beautiful river views and nice outdoor seating. Prices good.
Basic bar fare in a pub environment, as advertised. I got the Caesar salad, and to her credit our server asked about anchovies and any other ingredients that I might not want ("Some people don't like carrots, so we tell everyone it's got carrots in it.) The guy I was meeting had been there before and got the fish and chips, which looked like a great choice, with big steak fries that were cooked perfectly. Good job!
Went to Kirwan's for a business lunch. Food was great, but not served as described on menu. Bread said pumpernickel and it came on rye. Also our water glasses were not refilled when empty without us having to ask.
We had a delicious brunch in a relaxed and very pleasant environment. The service was just right - friendly and attentive without unnecessary interruptions. This is not my first time there and won't be my last.
Great service! Good salads for lunch during the week and a wonderful brunch on Sunday.
We came for Sunday Brunch. Our bartender was our waiter. He was very open and willing to create a drink for us that was not on the menu, an Irish Mimosa! He was very friendly. The service was excellent! The food came out quickly and was very hot and fresh. The ambiance of the back room/pub was very nice. Will definitely return.
My major complaint is the room we were seated in. Small room off of the upstairs bar. The tables and chairs don’t work. Get rid of the absurdly oversized chairs. They are a nuisance. You know it. Deal with it. And the speakers in that room are too loud for the tiny space. Kill one of them.
Food was poor quality. Server was not very friendly.
We arrived at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon and discovered they only serve from the brunch menu and the offerings were not great. Steak and eggs was mediocre. Granola was enjoyed by one of our party and the 11 year old got a burger that was good. The Bloody Marys are good!
We had a great brunch at Kirwan's. It wasn't too crowded and we sat upstairs at a table with a TV so we could watch golf, and very comfortable seating. The bloody mary's were excellent, and so were the Bailey's waffles!
Great food. Excellent service! Will
Definitely be going back.
We went there for brunch, a party of four with two toddlers. There were other families there for brunch too, so that was nice that the restaurant was able to accommodate us; however they do not have a food menu for children. Come early to get seated on the patio. The food was okay, portions were small for the price.
We sat in the bar area at one of the high top tables. The chairs are too low for these tables. It was a bit uncomfortable. The service was great! Everyone enjoyed their food. I order the crab benedict. It was delicious but the presentation was poor. Just a monochromatic plate. It needed something to make it look more appetizing.
They have really fabulous gluten-free options! We should have sat outside to enjoy the ambiance of the wharf.
Shrimp and grits weren’t that good. Shrimp way over cooked. Crab Benedict looked like it was just thrown on the plate. No presentation at all. Bangers and mash were delicious. So was corned beef hash.
I had the eggs Florentine for brunch and I didn't think it was all that good. I had been to Kirwan's once before and had the fish and chips which I thought was very good.
Very nice, relaxing spot right on the water. Great views and people-watching. Enjoyed a cold drink and a fresh nicoise salad with seared ahi tuna.
Here's a review from a first timer at The Wharf as well as Kirwans. Both are quite amazing in their transformative ability to totally re-configure an aging but important part of the D.C. scene, namely, the Waterfront. The easy going and trendy vibe of the entire scene both inside and outside this restaurant are at once relaxing and intriguing.........the boats, the water views, the comings and goings of yachts and ferries all tend to make this area and this restaurant top tier attractions in what had been a downward spiraling, under utilized yet important part of our City. Congrats to both the developers, those hundreds of community organizers who helped shape the scene with their comments, and the businesses who had the foresight and imagination to make this their new home. Cudos to all!
Food was bland and not cooked per request. Had corned beef and hash and it was all wrong.
The little pub in the back is so comfortable and charming. We had great service from the bartender, and loved the “Mixed Pints” which combine Guinness with another of your favorite draft beers. It was a great place to watch the hockey game, and very different from the front of the restaurant (which is also lovely, with a nice patio overlooking the Potomac). Good music and sound system, too (when the game wasn’t on.) We are staying at the Hyatt nearby, and plan to go back again.
Great experience. You know what shepherds pie is and it was many notches above. All four diners loved our meals. One criticism. You don’t need to put plastic straws in water glasses. They are bad environmentally and adults don’t need sippy cups.
We had reservations at 11 for brunch. Showed up on time and had to wait 10 minutes while employees initially ignored us then struggled to find someone to seat us. Food was ok. Coffee was served cold. Prime waterfront location has spoiled this restaurant’s desire to please customers.
Nice atmosphere on the Wharf, with outside seating, which is a real bonus when the weather is nice. The food was mediocre, but what caused the negative review was the notably bad service. Server didn't bring even say hello within the first 10ish minutes. Then they forgot 2 of the items we ordered; other servers got them for us, since our server didn't check back for another 20 minutes or so. Also had to ask other servers for water refills. Only saw our server three times during the meal, each time a cursory fly-by. Won't be going back, despite spending a lot of time in the area.
B’fast was good
