Kiran's Ratings and Reviews
Kiran’s consistently has excellent cuisine, excellent service, and a broad, high quality wine selection. Among the best authentic, traditional East Indian cuisine on the planet along with outstanding contemporary adaptations of Indian fare. Do yourself and your guests a favor; go to Kiran’s.
I made a reservation for Friday night, 12/8/2017, on Monday, 12/4/2017, for 8 o’clock. We got there a few minutes early and took a seat at the bar for a glass of wine. After enjoying a glass of wine, I inquired about the status of our table at approximately 8:10. Upon my inquiry, the host informed me that it would be an additional 20-30 minutes until our table was ready. There was a table open in the bar, so we settled for that since we had tickets to a movie at 9:40.
After sitting there for 5-10 minutes, we were still menu-less and hadn’t been visited by a server yet. Thankfully, the two gentlemen next to us were done and handed us theirs. After waiting a bit longer our server finally paid us a visit and took our orders. We received our food timely, but after dropping off our food, our server was no where to be seen for the rest of the night (save my run in with him in the kitchen, I’ll get to that in a second). At this point, we were still sipping on our wine from our initial seat at the bar. Given that we were eating Indian food, some water would have been nice so I managed to track down another waiter and asked him for some water. After not receiving any water for another 10 minutes or so, I walked over to the kitchen and found our original waiter having a gay ole’ time with his coworkers as he ate naan out of a basket. I eventually got his attention and was able to obtain 2 precious glasses of H2O.
Overall, this was not a pleasant experience as it was quite apparent the restaurant employees were completely overwhelmed and unable to fulfill the needs of their guests.
It should be noted that they were nice enough to comp three quarters of one glass of wine for the wait.
Will likely give them one more chance because the food is quite good, but the whole experience left something to be desired.
First time at new location. Not a good move. In fact, it was difficult to believe it was the same restaurant! It starts with the parking... self park somewhere in what appears to be an office building in which restaurant is located. We were unaware of logistics so valet parked half a block from entrance which we couldn't find!
Once in, place was large and loud. For those of you who anticipate physical layout similar to old location on Westheimer, be prepared for complete change. The old location was quiet, intimate and easily accessible. The new setting is just the opposite.
The food is what has always drawn my wife and I to this restaurant but the food was actually not up to par on this visit which never occurred at prior location. Food was always consistently delicious. Even the Naan was not up to their high standards. Service was good (silver lining).
I do not anticipate returning to what we once considered one of the best dining experiences to be found in Houston. Disappointing. Probably no mas!
Very disappointed. Invited a friend and was looking forward to it. Kiran’s was closed! Both Open Table and Kiran’s dropped the ball! I don’t think a person should receive an email as well as in the website Open Table a CONFIRMED RESERVATION when the restaurant
We had a wonderful meal, the waiter was very helpful with recommendations. We decided to stay with the traditional Indian cuisine and it did not disappoint. The nice thing about the restaurant is that there are options besides Indian food if you are with a group with different food tastes. Lots of vegetarian and non vegetarian options.
Overall, we have been to Kiran’s A number of times. The old restaurant was better quality, the service was better and we enjoyed the ambiance much better. The new restaurant is larger, but without the warm feeling. The feeling I got was bigger was supposed to be better, but I think she missed the mark.
It was my first time dining at the restaurant and i am professional chef too the service was poor i mean the waiters made to seat and we were waiting for more than half n hour to order drinks with all the waiters starring at us but rather than that it was good experience good food good vibes
Initial impression on visiting the new location for the first time is that I miss the British Colonial decor of the previous site. The menu is extensive and a must if you want to include vegetarian options on the menu for someone in your party. Food seems to have swayed somewhat into more "Fusion" and less "Indian" for a traditionalist, but the quality is excellent and preparation is top notch. Will go again, but not when craving Indian.
We completely enjoyed Kiran's. Most of the people with me had not had Indian - or very little exposure to it . I don't know everything about it, but I know I like it and had heard great reviews about Kiran's. It did not disappoint and every one, even the skeptical ones, enjoyed it thoroughly.
Great food! We attended the pre-fixe men for Diwali. All vegetarian (disclaimer...we are not vegetarian) menu and it was FANTASTIC. Party of 6 and we all thoroughly enjoyed the authentic and exotic flavors of India. Our service was impeccable and of course Chef Kiran and her husband were present and greeting guests as usual. Nice host/hostesses, great drinks at the bar. An overall amazing experience as usual. One of our local favorites.
Quickly becoming my fav restaurant in Houston. I just love this place. Don’t go if you’re in a hurry. They allow you to dine a leisurely pace which can be jarring compared to the typical American dining experience. It’s lovely if you can allow yourself to have a slow paced and amazing dinner. The food is excellent and there are so many options. The service is impeccable and the servers are very well trained to explain every aspect of the menu.
I visited Kiran's for a Saturday afternoon tea, which was a surprise for my husband who loves tea. We did the gluten free menu. Food was good, with the portobello appetizer and scone my favorites. There were three courses and three different teas. We left extremely full, so don't eat lunch beforehand!
Service left something to be desired. We had about 4 different people waiting on us and they didn't communicate with each other, which resulted in confusion and the wrong things being brought out to us.
Overall, I thought this was a nice experience and different than a traditional meal out.
