Kipos means garden in Greek. It’s a taverna, where friends and strangers gather every day to share thoughts, a glass of wine or two, raki, beer, and often Ouzo. Mezedes (small plates) coming to your table, keep the conversation going.

Kipos is a reflection of owner, Giorgios Baktasias' childhood: fresh and robust village foods cooked in wood-burning ovens, honoring old and modern recipes alike. Kalos Orisate (welcome) to our home.

Kipos is likely the best restaurant we’ve been to since moving to the triangle area from Toronto. Incredible food, service, cleanliness and ambiance. The portion sizes are generous and despite it being very busy when we went, service was very timely. To start, we had the appetizer platter (4 items to share), Greek salad (the most authentic horiatiki salad I have had outside of Greece), fried calamari (perfectly seasoned, crispy and not oily). For mains we had the whole fish (sea bass), leg of lamb (melt in your mouth) and mousaka (massive portion and so so good). Even the cocktails were delicious and well balanced. For dessert, we tried the olive oil chocolate mousse and the semolina cake.

Best meal we have had in ages.

My teenage son and I had a sensational meal at Kipos Greek Taverna while touring colleges in VA and NC! Everything was delicious! We got to try things we'd never had before....and even the things we'd had before (like the moussaka) were taken to a new level! We finished our meal with a layered cheesecake recommended by our waiter. It was different from any we'd ever had, and so incredibly yummy and memorable! The service was responsive and friendly, and the setting and atmosphere were really fun.

We really like Kipos, but were somewhat disappointed with a couple of food issues. We were eating early and so there was no crowd and therefore in my opinion, no reason for any food preparation issues. Both my rotisserie pork and my wife’s Spanakotiropita seemed very dry. The flavor of the pork was still great, but it was not as good as other occasions.

Fun atmosphere. Fantastic food. Not inexpensive but portion sizes are generous and ingredients are top quality. This is not an every day option for our budget but we all felt the prices were fair. Service was exceptional. We look forward to having another celebration so we can return to Kipos.

Got the trout special and it was great. Very flavorful food. Tables are a little close together. Avoid the three-legged tables if possible, they are unstable. Table tipped several times.

We ordered soup and never got it. Our appetizer plates were taken away from us as we were actively eating. As much as I used to enjoy the food, would never come back again.

We have eaten dinner at Kipos several times and tried their brunch for the first time this Easter Sunday. Unlike other restaurants which offer expensive buffet menus on special occasions or holidays, Kipos offered their regular brunch menu and a spattering of specials at normal prices. Such a pleasant surprise! Everyone’s food was excellent and the prices are extremely reasonable. The lemon ricotta pancakes are to die for. We will definitely be back.

The service was poor during this visit, however service is usually above average. More importantly, I spoke to the manager, she apologized and compensated us, and we'll be going back.
Every restaurant has an occasional bad day so I won't go into the details. What's important is that the manager handled it well.

We went with a group of six adults to celebrate my birthday. The service was amazing and the food was fantastic. I recommend the squid appetizer, the pastitsio (that I snuck from my husband) and the chocolate mousse with sea salt, olive oil and rum! That small dessert circled the table twice and EVERYONE loved it! Thank you Kipos for such a wonderful experience.

Our first visit and it was great. Food and wine choices were excellent and the preparation and flavor was superb. My wife had the salmon and she called it one of the best ever. I had the rotisserie pork and the flavor was so good that I’m ready to go back soon for a repeat.

The olive oil chocolate mousse with sea salt was wonderful.

What a great find. Just a couple of blocks down Franklin with an excellent public parking facility directly behind the restaurant. The leg of lamb was moist and delicious. Great selection of desserts, so take something home for later. We will definitely visit Kipos the next time we are in CH.

My co-worker and I went to Kipos Greek Tavern while in town for business. Neither of us had eaten at an authentic Greek restaurant before, so we decided on this one based on the reviews. Boy were we happy that we did! We ordered a couple smaller items from the menu (warmed feta with pita bread, grilled squid, and meatballs (that he even got a second order of lol)) and the rotisserie lamb, in which every bite was phenomenal! It was one of the best meals either of us have ever eaten. We talked about it for hours after. Our waiter was very polite and informative with suggestions that he thought we would like. The drinks were crafty with cucumber and orange ice cubes, as well as delicious. We will definitely return to have a meal next time we visit Chapel Hill!! Or maybe just to go back and eat again!

Spur of the moment decision and reservations on Friday night. I'd been there before but others in the party had not. Everyone was thrilled with their meals. Fish Place was especially good as was the lamb special. Very happy and will not wait so long to return.

Service was terrible. The waiter seemed very nice and accommodating, but he was never available. There were numerous mistakes in our orders and we were spending most of our evening trying to flag down anyone to come to the table and help us. They seem to have waiters absolutely everywhere, but never at our table. The food was fine, but I won’t go back again.

Food was good, but not exceptional. Calamari was overcooked and came with no sauce, and it really needed something. Service was very good on a crowded evening. Seating is too close, very difficult to get to and from table without bumping into people seated at nearby tables.
