Kipos Greek Taverna
Kipos is a reflection of owner, Giorgios Baktasias' childhood: fresh and robust village foods cooked in wood-burning ovens, honoring old and modern recipes alike. Kalos Orisate (welcome) to our home.

very fun to go here. always entertaining. the food was good. the service was excellent. the place was very noisy and hard to talk, it was a business dinner, better for large parties i think
Highly recommend! Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food.
You must try their exceptional wedding cookies.
Our dining experience at Kipos was fabulous ! The food was wonderful, especially the fish dishes that our party enjoyed. I felt that most of what we had was "authentic", not "Americanized" to fit what someone thinks this part of the US would like. We had a toddler and the service staff was very accommodating and patient with their "smallest customer". We will definitely return !
This restaurant is outstanding. We continued to eat way past being satiated, it was all so delicious, authentic and beautifully presented. Although, the atmosphere is family casual, this restaurant qualifies as a special occasion experience.
We waited 15 minutes before a server emerged. But Ava was wonderful!
Great food, could be a little better for the price.
The lamb was good but was essentially a lamb steak which was a little weird. The dips and grape leaves were stone cold, rice when served this cold becomes hard, obviously the grape leaves were made in advance and served straight from the fridge. Typically these items are served room temperature or even fresh when in Greece.
Service, wait staff and ambiance are impressive and seemed perfect. Overall had a lovely time with great food, but not the best.
Outstanding! Kevin was wonderful. Can’t say enough good things about this place!
We had a mini family reunion and the restaurant was very accommodating The table was ready on time, the food delicious and the service excellent.
Great Chapel Hill eatery - you simply must try it! I’ve been there 3 times with friends and family and I will be back.
Food was outstanding, and service was excellent. Had a nice talk with one of the owners who visited many of the tables. Will definitely go back
Elizabeth/Lizzie was fantastic! I have been to Kipos on three different occasions and she was, BY FAR, the best server in terms of knowledge, service, and expertise. Not only was our service fantastic, but the food was outstanding. Compliments to the back of the house, Giorgio, and Olga. See you again, soon.
This place is amazing! The atmosphere is awesome, the service was superb, the food was fantastic, and the live Greek music (at an acceptable decibel level) altogether made for an “experience” rather than a dinner. One of the best nights out in a long time!!
Consistently one of our Chapel Hill favorites. Cozy environment, great food and personable staff.
As always Kippos was outstanding and for Valentines day at that....A special 5 stars to the manager who instinctively moved us away from a door opening to a cozier table without a word from me. The host was literally in the process of sitting us, the manager saw it was the wrong move and offered us a better table on his own. The restaurant reflects a true professional is running the house. Thanks Kippos!!!!
The atmosphere at Kipos is amazing! The food is excellent. Perfect spot for a date night or a larger group.
We went to Kipos for Valentine’s Day. The food was top notch and our waiter was knowledgeable. I was happy to easily find food which was gluten free and dairy free. The mousse (though not dairy free) was incredible. The only downsides were the noise level and how packed we were among all the other patrons.
Great food served by a friendly waiter, who gave us good advice on the food options.
My husband and I visited Kipos for Valentine’s Day. It was fabulous. Very authentic Greek food w live Greek music.
The food, service and atmosphere was
Exactly what we were wanting.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Chapel Hill area!
One of my favorite restaurants. Food and service is consistently outstanding. Opa!
Every time we come here it is fabulous!
Special was whole fish with crab and I didn’t taste any crab. Food was good but little expensive not sure it’s worth the price. Appetizers better than main course
Amazing food, great wine list, superb atmosphere whether you're just dining with your date or with a group of friends or family, and incredible service. We will be back for sure!
A wonderful evening of food, music and amazing service. I can’t wait for another terrific meal.
Food was good, but the seafood was a bit undercooked. Appetizers turned out great, and they had a great selection of wine.
Everything from the atmosphere to the food was amazing... Very friendly staff...can’t wait to go back
Food was excellent. Wait staff very accommodating- they were able to move our table so our group could talk. There was a live guitar player and towards the end of the night many patrons danced around the restaurant!! Very Lively!! The food was very good, I had leg of lamb special with lemon infused potatoes which were amazing !! Wife had trout and brother had Rice and meat balls I apologize that I don't recall the Greek names but the food was all excellent! Particular the lemon potatoes and Fire Grilled Octopus (appetizer) Everyone loved it!!
We are new to the area and I chose this restaurant based on the menu for my husband's birthday dinner. The food was wonderful. My husband just loved the beef short ribs. They were so tender he could cut them with just his fork. W enjoyed every course from saginaki to chocolate mouse cake. There is an excellent wine selection and the service was a delight. Thank you for a lovely evening beginning to end
Kipos is a really nice place with a good atmosphere and great service. I've enjoyed their dinner options a lot more than their brunch, but I still need to try their lemon ricotta pancakes before I make a final assessment. Their charred octopus is tops however!
Excellent service and delicious food!
Our server and entire experience was excellent. Too bad we live almost an hour away or we would be back more often. Great restaurant week dinner!
We went for a birthday brunch and for the triangle restaurant week menu! Everything was delicious, on time, and the service was delightful!
Parents have lived here for 12 years and never eaten here. Restaurant week i came to town an convinced them to try.
They absolutely loved it, as did I. Food was outstanding, the chef is on the floor often so knows whats going on. Heard from a waitress that is Greek herself and makes her own pastries that these are out of this world - they even make their own phyllo. And if you like baklava- get one for the entire table. as big as a door stop but worth saving room for.
The olive bread that comes free is so fresh,
Only thing that was difficult for my folks is that it was a little noisy. Musician was fantastic, very busy Friday night, tables close to eachother- no one thing but occasionally a challenge for folks that may not hear as well or talk loudly.
You'll enjoy- Opa!
Great food and atmosphere.
The food and service is great but sometimes it can get noisy.
I used to love Kipo’s. I have been there probably 15 times. The last few times the service was a tad “off,” but the food was good enough to overlook some of the oddities in their subpar service.
Restaurant Week was the last straw. Our server was really, really, really bad. Disappeared, never asked how the food was, and added auto-gratuity “because of restaurant week.” Ok, I suppose that’s why he was so bad (he knew tip was guaranteed regardless).
Our food was mediocre, bland, boring, and lukewarm. The only bright side with the food was the very delicious olive oil sea salt mousse (which I must say was absolutely divine).
I will probably give Kipo’s one more try because I know what they CAN be (delicious and interesting food with consistent service) instead of judging them for what they’ve been lately, which is just bad.
Food was amazing as always. Big fan of the grilled octopus. Will return!
Another great night at Kipos! We love dining here the service is warm and friendly and the food is delicious. We will be back soon.
Our food was delicious and the service was great. Had some trouble finding parking but that's Franklin Street for you.
I don't go for a few months and as a result forget how unbearably loud it is! Cannot have a civilized conversation.
The food was outstanding. But I especially want to give a shout out to our server, Kevin. He was informative, friendly,And attentive without covering.
