Kipos Greek Taverna
Kipos is a reflection of owner, Giorgios Baktasias' childhood: fresh and robust village foods cooked in wood-burning ovens, honoring old and modern recipes alike. Kalos Orisate (welcome) to our home.

Excellant Greek food! Outstanding service by Mike. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back!
Much, much too noisy at Kipos despite supposedly being seated at a requested quiet, relatively speaking, table. The noise was beyond overcoming which diminished the enjoyment immensely. Having to yell to be heard by one's dinner partners is most unpleasant. Therefore, I cannot give an answer to the above question. The food was very good!
Amazing restaurant with delicious food and fantastic lively atmosphere. The only downside was the night we went their bathrooms were out of commission and we had to use the restaurants across the street which was a little off putting.
Good overall, but the moussaka was disappointing compared to what you get in other Greek restaurants or in Greece, although it was tasty.
Good and healthy Greek food. Perfect for a date night or celebration. Also works for a simple meal out.
Whole Bronzino is the star of the menu. Many authentic Greek dishes.
I love the ambiance, especially the music and lighting. The food was delicious. Yummy calamari!
We have eaten at Kipo's a half dozen times or so and Sunday night's low-key birthday dinner was the best yet. The tuna special that I ordered was just phenomenal - excellent piece of fish and the savory accompaniment (rather than the normal Asian or sweet sides) was a nice touch. My wife's salmon was just as good and done perfectly. Service was very good as well. Excellent meal!
Thank you for the kind words! We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed your dinner at Kipos and hope you visit again soon. Happy birthday!
Our dinner was fantastic. The staff was well trained and friendly. Food was excellent.
We're glad you enjoyed your dinner at Kipos, Paul! We look forward to your next visit.
Beautiful place with delicious food.
Thank you for the kind words! We're happy to hear you enjoyed your meal at Kipos.
Always a great time at Kipos even though not often enough.
Thanks for the kind words, Jan! We're so happy you enjoy Kipos and can't wait to host you again.
excellent Excellent EXCELLENT
Food - Atmosphere - Service (Thanks Daio) - Music .... All "téleios" (PERFECT)
Thanks for the review, Mark! We're so glad you enjoyed yourself.
Excellent food in a vibrant if not a bit loud atmosphere.
Thank you for the review! We pride ourselves on providing a traditional Greek experience and host live music and dancing, which can be a bit noisy. We hope you visit Kipos again soon!
Our server was excellent as was the food. I would highly recommend Kipos to anyone.
Thank you for the kind words! We look forward to hosting you again.
We were dining for a special event and it was disappointing that my notes when reserving a table had not been acted on and we didn’t feel our waiter was fantastic either
Food was great and so was the service. Seafood dishes were all excellent. It's now my new favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill. My only issue is that it's loud and pretty hard to hear. Otherwise, it was a great experience!
Wow!! The food was delicious! We were there for a UNC football weekend. The food was great but it was so hot in the restaurant, almost to the point of making you lose your appetite! Our waiter was more than accommodating but the noise level was so high, we could barely hear each other. I can’t wait to come back during a less busy and less warm evening soon!
Awesome flavors. Good value. Authentic.
Never fails to deliver.
Great food and service!
Kipos always delivers an amazing experience with incredible food and an energetic atmosphere!!
Thank you for the glowing review, Bill! We look forward to hosting you again soon.
Greeted with smiles and a welcome at reception, served with knowledge and care by the waiter and provided with delicious food and wine by the kitchen and bar. It all made for a lovely evening.
Grilled octopus, feta with Chilli peppers, seafood stew, the halibut, were all just excellent! I’d go back tomorrow!
Thank you for the kind words! We look forward to hosting you again.
This was our second time at Kipos. Food was very good. The 4 of us split an appetizer of 4 dips and grilled octopus which were plentiful and delicious. Two people had the lamb chops and they both enjoyed it. I had the whole trout which was very good. We split the cookie platter and enjoyed as well. There was music which at times with the crowd made it very hard to talk. It makes for nice atmosphere but the restaurant was very crowded and noisy even without it. My only complaint was the food came out too fast. We tried to slow it down but we were still enjoying our appetizer when the entrees were coming out. We will be back.
We really enjoyed the food. The deck was lovely. Inside was very loud. I’d recommend this restaurant
Best Moussaka ever. Seafood stew was sensational. Ask about craft beer selections not on main menu.
The food was amazing. All 4 of us really enjoyed our selections and the live music. We’ll definitely be back.
Great food, reasonably priced...excellent attentive service
Don’t miss this marvelous place. It is the highlight of every trip to Chapel Hill!
Best/authentic Greek food in the U.S. Beautiful ambiance and design of space. Industrial meets village. Greek music. Located right on the main drag of Chapel Hill — Franklin St.
Lively and friendly atmosphere with delicious food and interesting cocktails. Kipos never fails to make a great night out with friends.!
We really love the food and service! The music is great but it’s too loud. In our table of four we had a really hard time hearing the people across the table. Reducing the volume would take this restaurant up to 5 stars!
It was great! Waiter Thad was great!
Excellent food, we will be back again soon. The grilled octopus was delicious!
had a great double date night. we enjoyed splitting a bunch of different items the tatziki was amazing
Disappointed with the food (compared to a visit 6 months ago). The zucchini crisps had many pieces of plain batter with no discernible zucchini. The rice pilaf was not as described with only a few grains of rice (mainly spinach). The grilled calamari was over seasoned (to the point I had to scrape it off) and rubbery in texture. The baked eggplant was very garlicky (heartburn inducing in two of us who had it). Others enjoyed the chicken and spanakopita. Service was good. I wonder if it was an “off” night in the kitchen?
It is really expensive for what you get, small portions but overall good quality food. An over-excited waiter in the beginning turned out to vanish after we were served. Would not go back.
This place is amazingly good and consistent in quality. I eat here every time I'm in town.
Always enjoy this place for ambiance, energy and of course their Greek cuisine. Fun place. Indoor or outdoor
It's a little noisy. Hard to talk with our company
