We regularly go to the Kings Head Hotel for lunch, teas coffees when out in town. We were bought an afternoon tea for our wedding which we used for my birthday. We'd never had an afternoon tea at King's Head hotel. It was nice and presented well, but we were disappointed by 2 things. Firstly we were hoping it would be in the upstairs restaurant near the window (I've never been upstairs but my sister in law and brother and friends had there's upstairs which looked lovely) instead it was just where we usually sit so didn't feel any different or special. Secondly there was no clotted cream it was squirty cream I really think you need to look at this, an afternoon tea should be clotted cream and you can get it cheaply from supermarkets so no reason you can't look at changing it. Food was nice as it always is. Afternoon tea needs little bit of tweaking. (Clotted cream a must and maybe a strawberry or two)

Sandwiches were lovely and fresh but scones and cakes were dry and fell into pieces when trying to add jam and cream... scones and cakes can only be described as shop bought and not homemade. We didn't eat the scones and only tried one cake.

The menu is totally misleading-nowhere can I find that the choice is so drastically reduced that it serves different food. All we could manage was a pizza compared to the salmon, belly of pork, steak etc of the main menu as described when booking on the website on open table. Utterly disappointing we really just wanted to leave. The pizza itself was poor- had better takeaways. There will have been a reason why this place was the only one we could find this evening as everywhere else in the town was chock full.

We arrived after having booked afternoon tea for 6 people at 1600 that morning. We found our way when sent upstairs following directions.we then tried to find someone to help. When we did we were informed they were not expecting us and weren’t sure they had anything ready. We waited in the hall way over hearing staff complaining that they weren’t expecting us and it wasn’t their fault. These things happen and mistakes are made in any job/ service. But HOW you handle it is what matters. Making customers feel unwelcome and uncomfortable is not good service. A simple “ oh sorry to keep you waiting” would have covered it. We didn’t need to hear how you might not have anything ready, how it was Reception’s fault for not telling you and the general complaining whilst we had to stand in the corridor and cringe. I think a refresher on customer service would benefit these staff concerned. I do not put all in this bracket. Another recommendation maybe to take down your on line booking facility if you are not going to check it on the day for same day bookings.

Not impressed at all. I have been here in the past for Sunday lunch and it was lovely. However on this occasion the meal was tasteless, luke warm and the yorkies were Just not up to standard . Dessert of apple crumble consisted of undercooked apples and a very small amount of lukewarm custard. The staff who served were very professional. But unfortunately I will not be returning or recommending due to the poor quality of food.
