My fiancée and I went for her birthday and Kingfish did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding and we were pleased from the moment we sat to the moment we left.
We have dined here several times in the past few months and always enjoyed our evening. We were anxious to share the restaurant with friends. What a disaster. Service was horrendous. We ordered drinks, they never came. Most of the time we had no water and were looking for someone to fill out drinks. Food took forever to come out but when it did, it was delicious. Other tables were complaining as well and it was apparent that there was no management present to help. Although we will be back, it probably won't be on a Saturday night because I don't think they can adequately handle the crowds.[
the property and food was very good. the staff was stressed. waits for drinks, for next course of dinner. every one working hard and good spirits but definitely could have used extra set of hands.
Waitress needed a little extra training. Had to ask what the specials were and she forgot the entrees.
Food and service was excellent. Good variety on menu. Only problem is the flickering of lights if u have vertigo or eye issues can be an issue.

the appetizers and desserts were great. the 4 entrees were awful. 1 steak was bland, the other steaks were mushy and not cooked to liking and the scallops were under cooked. brussel sprouts were bland and burnt. overall the appetizers were all delicious and so was desserts. it waas pricey night because the drinks were extremely expensive. the place is beautiful though

We had dinner with 3 other couples on a Saturday night. The food was outstanding. I had the almond crusted Mahi Mahi and it was light and buttery. I totally enjoyed it. The other couples order the monkfish and salmon. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The restaurant was not very noisy and our server was very efficient and pleasant. Will definitely be back.

However, we were asked to leave as we were close to finishing up our dessert and coffee. They came and asked us to move to the bar because they needed the table. As we were leaving, I spoke to the manager.
Me: I don’t appreciate being asked to leave
Manager: we didn’t ask you to leave, we asked you to enjoy cocktails at the bar
Me: we were finishing up our coffee
Manager: your reservation was at 6.
If this restaurant has a time limit, then post it. To enforce this without any type of written notification (on their website, on OpenTable, on Yelp, on the door of the restaurant, on the menus, etc) is uncalled for and seriously unprofessional. To push us out ( who made this reservation months ago), just to accommodate walk-ins, is simply unprofessional.
Change your policy. Train your managers and staff.
My company employee and I had a great meal and wonderful experience. The food was plated so well and very fresh and everyone enjoyed their meal.

Ordered from the restaurant week menu, every food was extremely plain and bland.
Beet salad—beets were plain, no marinade, not roasted or cooked different in any way, could have been out of a can; hazelnuts were plain, not even lightly salted, regular blue cheese crumbles and greens were included in this plain Salad.
Rock shrimp risotto—al dente risotto too crunchy, I’m sure it wasn’t meat not to be that undercooked, all the arugula added to it did not give it enough flavor, very bland; 3 halved cooked cherry tomatoes were also plain, but the worst insult were the two (yes, 2, not exaggerating) plain rock shrimp in the rice, these two shrimp tasted like shrimp cocktail, they were completely unseasoned
We were so excited about eating there, but were greatly disappointed. Will not return.
I had undercooked mussels, over cooked monkfish and over cooked scallops. Not a very good experience.
I enjoyed Kingfish Oyster Bar both times I dined there.
The chef is excellent, wait staff is very competent, polite and available if you need anything.
It is a very pleasant dining experience and I highly recommend.

We have wanted to try this restaurant since it opened but thought it might be too expensive. They were participating in restaurant week so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is lovely. The food and service were very good. I would go back for sure.

Went for restaurant week. Surprisingly charming restaurant on the ground floor of the Vanderbilt. Food was excellent, service was first rate and the meal was well presented. This is exactly the reason you have restaurant week. We will be back.
We tried Kingfish during restaurant week. The menu choices were more than most restaurants during this week. Portion sizes were large and the food was delicious. Three of us ordered the chicken and crawfish meatballs for an appetizer and they were excellent! We will definitely dine at Kingfish again.

This is not a seafood restaurant as advertised. Too many meat choices and not enough seafood, not counting oysters.
While being served dinner a group of you girls talked loudly and played with each other's hair. I don't mean a little flip of the hair but actual braiding, ponytail making, un-braiding and re-braiding. These grooming practices. I always thought should be taken care of in the rest room not at the dinner table. I'm just wondering if it was because they were Asian, because if my sister-in-law, who is black, were to come into this restaurant with her girls and started to whip out and put in their braids, something would be said.
I was very happy when I changed my seat from my back to the door to facing the door, so I didn't have to witness the young girls grooming their hair. I was extremely embarrassed as the dinner celebration was for my sis-in-law's birthday. I'm so sorry she had to witness this grooming practice while trying to enjoy dinner.
This behavior is unacceptable on the subway let alone a "fancy" restaurant such as yours.
We went for brunch, and to catch up with friends. There were not a lot of diners; must have come at a slow time which allowed us to have a leisurely meal. Everything was wonderful. I ended up having two appetizers for my meal. I could have had one, the portion was so big. Our waitress was great. She met our needs without being on top of us. We will be back.
Upon entering you are greeted by a grand vaulted foyer with beautiful lighting and high windows. The layout of the restaurant is very open is designed very nicely with artwork from local landscapes. We had a reservation for 8pm on a Friday, and the restaurant was less than half full. We were greeted and taken to our seats.
There is an impressive oyster selection along with an ample menu. We ordered. Mixed dozen of west coast oysters, grilled octopus and yellowtail jalapeño carpaccio.
The oysters were VG and fresh, served with usual accoutrements. Unfortunately that is where my recommendation ends.
The grilled octopus arrived and while the portion size was decent, the octopus was not only overcooked the pieces were way too large to enjoy. As for the yellowtail, while it appeared fresh, the pieces were cut irregular and large and did not have an enjoyable mouth feel.
Our server, albeit friendly and nice, was inattentive, did not ask how our meal was. and spilled both our drinks and water bottle. We did not stick around for a main dish.
We really wanted to enjoy this place but considering the gravity of both ineptitude and the inability to properly cook the octopus, I do not believe we will be returning. I hope they rectify these issues for future diners
It was a very disappointing experience for some reason the bus boy decided to only give two of the four of us water very strange then had to ask at least 3 times for more bread then the waitress forgot to order the appetizers for two of us and then when our food finally arrived two out of the four dinners were cold and had to be sent back. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone very very disappointing for a Tom Schaudel restaurant
Recent visit was disappointing on Saturday evening. The service and water refill were great. But food wise is not up to standard. We had waited a long time between appetizers and main course. The entire evening took 3 hours. Two of us had seared stripe bass which the skin was not seared or crispy. The pan roast chicken was the same.. not crispy skin at all. The portion of the fish was smaller. We dined at the restaurant on several occasions on Friday and Sunday nights and had better meals than on Saturday. I would not come on Saturdays. Best to dine at the place earlier in the evening when the kitchen is not as busy. Otherwise the entree suffer the culinary skills.
Food was superb. Service top notch. Hard to find and you must valet.
the tasting menu is an excellent value and it is fun to be surprised with the choices of wonderful food and wine. We hope to do it again soon.

We told her we were in no rush and she paced our courses perfectly. The night was great! The food and service are always fantastic here.
