King Tide Fish & Shell
We do that with a blend of the traditional and the non, the comfortable and the slightly twisted, the satisfying food and the swinging drink.
King Tide Fish & Shell embraces the Shared Plate philosophy that encourages more people to enjoy more flavors in more ways than any single plate can accommodate. And because we're Portland, we make it as local as possible. When we see water we think fish, so you'll find plenty of it on our menu. Basically, we just like to keep it fresh.
King Tide Fish & Shell is where food & drink & people always complement each other, and everything goes with the view.
Food and atmosphere was awesome, roasted beet appetizer was delish! Server was attentive, a bit on the pricier side to what we usually spend, however it was worth it as a treat while travelling from out of town.
I could not give this restaurant 5 stars simply because the service was so poor. The Food was excellent, and being outside on such a beautiful evening was great. We ordered 3 beverages, of which only one arrived after a very long wait and had to remind the server of our missing beverages as our dinner arrived. We ordered the special fish of the day which was excellent while our friend has the halibut. Both dishes were wonderful. It seems that they were poorly staffed with waiters in bar and the restaurant. It seems that the bar tab should also be combined with the dinner of which they could not do. Food great, wait staff were friendly but service needs some help.
King Tide was a short walk from our nearby hotel so the location was convenient. We greatly enjoyed our dining experience and the fish selection we made was excellent. We would definitely consider returning next year when my wife and I visit the Portland area.
This is a restaurant in the Kimpton Hotel which is a wonderful spot to stay. The restaurant is nice and the bar area next to the restaurant is big and very nice. Also sitting outside for dinner is a big plus as it overlooks the river. Food was good. If you're staying at the hotel certainly would recommend eating there.
Amazing view by the river.
It took a little while for food to arrive. At times our waiter was switched out with anotherso it became a little confusing. Overall everyone was pleasant and the food was delicious.
The restaurant has a lovely outdoor seating area in the lounge, with a nice view of the ducks and the river below. A group of us (6) wanted to enjoy this area along with the happy hour specials, however rather than help us collect some chairs the waitress pushed us to proceed to the dining room, saying it also had a nice outdoor patio, but that we would have to forgo the HH specials. Well the dining patio turned out to be very noisy, with a lot of traffic noise from the bridge and a poor view of the river through all the trees. In addition, we were forced to pay full price for all our food, which in this restaurant is no small thing. Food was delicious, but small servings for the prices they charge; when they recommend sharing a $140 sea bass among four people, you would think the sides would serve more than two. All in all a lot of money for food that was not particularly special and bar servers not interested in pleasing customers. Will try somewhere else next time.
Wonderful experience for our last night in Portland! Great service from Jacob and excellent food. Four of us shared mussels, black cod, fish and chips and roasted beets...everything was delicious! Really enjoyed our meal and price was reasonable. Highly recommend!
We opted to eat outside so it was nosier. Halibut and oldster tortellini were outstanding. Very extensive wine list although no Moscato by the glass. Dress code was supposed to be upscale however there were a lot of patrons dressed in t shirts and shorts.
Excellent service delicious meal and drinks. Menu was a little limited
The service was fine. I had the scallops, they were good, not gritty. My husband had the halibut, it was overcooked. Our two companions had the salmon and lobster ravioli. There were no actual lobster pieces, it was a lobster mash in the ravioli. Considering underwhelming preparation and presentation, the menu is probably $4-$5 overpriced.
King Tide has great food in a beautiful setting, but their clam chowder is amazing! Lots of goodies in it (bacon, purple potato, onions, etc.), along with fat juicy clams...and the presentation is first-class.
When I made a reservation they asked me what is the occasion. I told them for my wife birthday. But at the end of the meal I had to tell the waiter. It was celebrated my wife birthday tonight. Even though the waiter did nothing for us. That was the downside from the service. Therefore I would not recommend people are going there to celebrate their birthday.
Great bday dinner and service. Back soon! Thank you
Excellent ...staff went the extra mile. Great food. Very helpful when it came to parking both our cars an when we want to go for a walk along water front ...we asked if they would put our leftovers in the fridge while we were walking ... waiter said sure. Excellent we will be back for sure.
It was a good quaint place to meet with a customer over a great meal.
Amazing! Try the clam chowder. Chilqueles rojo was delicious. Fresh pressed juices a must too.
The food was amazing! Drinks we’re amazing as well. Excellent service! Highly recommend!
Outstanding! beautiful and delicious food. Attentive, thoughtful service.
Clam chowder is a must, with smoked purple potatoes, and finished table side. The roasted beets- honestly, a perspective changing dish. Life altering sounds extreme, but it was that amazing. And please finish your meal with the "Not your avocado toast". You will not be sorry. Tasty food, great service, artful presentation...I simply can't wait to eat at King Tide again.
I am pleased to say, after two visits I really liked King Tide F clean, flavorful, excellent bread and not too large of a slice. I've had this twice now and the second time was better so whatever you did to improve it was spot on. We both had fish over cauliflower rice which was great, enjoyed the salsa verde and the fish was cooked perfectly for each of us however, we both noted the whole almonds mixed into the cauliflower rice were A) a bit odd and B) definitely too many of them. It was almost odd that every bite had a gigantic whole almond in it. Perhaps sliced or slivered would provide that crunch but not be so awkward? Anyhow, flavor was spot on. Loved dining al fresco and will definitely return!
Everything was tasty and out server was friendly and attentive
Our friends loved eggy aspect of their meal, but especially the fine service and the tomato/cheese plate, which was like Italy itself. Would come again...absolutely!
Halibut cooked perfectly and the dessert play on avocado toast was excellent!
Way overpriced for the food. Deck was nice, but everything was over priced..,..frys were greasy, lobster roll was petite with no side, only picked carrots. Won’t be back.
Sat outside by the water. Not fancy seating. Beet salad was fantastic! Lobster raviollis were yummi but the sauce was outstanding. Mushroom appetizer was fantastic. Fish and chips were tasty. Highly recommend!
The location is great, the valet parking free for two hours is super, depending upon your seating the view from the outside balcony is great but the menu is very limited for a seafood restaurant exclusive of the raw bar. We were interested in fish and were told that the whole fish, the seasonal catch (I've forgotten the type) was too large for two people so we both selected halibut from the choices that included black cod and king salmon. We shared a beet salad which was adequate for two and good. We each chose the halibut and chose two different of the three possible sauces - salsa verde and veracruz salsa. The halibut was the thickest we've had about two inches and cut in a slightly larger square. It was served on a square of cauliflower -almond rice with the sauce surrounding it. Nicely presented. Good portion of fish. We liked both of the sauces, found cauliflower-almond rice unusual and dry but okay with some of the sauce. The halibut looked wonderful but was overcooked. Not badly enough to return but enough to discourage us from returning.
Did not have the special for the evening, had to get our own silverware from the adjoining table, the oyster dish was tainted. Nothing was offered for the problems.
Loved the outdoor patio and the friendly service. Dinners were amazing - 5 of us and everyone was happy.

Menu items too adventurous for me. Need more traditional dishes along with them. Service was patchy. Patio was best in Portland but could be upgraded to match uniqueness of setting

Great selection of fresh oysters and other appetizers. We particularly liked the crab toast and prawn cocktail. Nice outdoor dining area for summertime. If making last minute plans, no need to make a reservation as the bar next door has a large outdoor seating area and serves the same menu as the dining room.

This restaurant was simply incredible. It was easy to taste how much thought, care and creativity goes into every aspect of the food. Everything was fresh and delicious. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, without coming across as intimidating at all, considering the caliber of restaurant. Fine dining but in a casual atmosphere. We sat on the patio, which overlooks a nice park and the the water. Overall, couldn't have asked for a better experience!!

Service was excellent. They were very patient with our party- we were late and two people ended up not eating.
The food was great. However the ceviche would be great with actual chips rather than the little strips. The produce was fresh and all of the fish was fresh and bright. Loved the deviled eggs and oysters.
