To be honest, the view came first. There aren't many places that command the vantage point we enjoy here at King Tide Fish & Shell, so we like to make sure it lives up to Portland.

We do that with a blend of the traditional and the non, the comfortable and the slightly twisted, the satisfying food and the swinging drink.

King Tide Fish & Shell embraces the Shared Plate philosophy that encourages more people to enjoy more flavors in more ways than any single plate can accommodate. And because we're Portland, we make it as local as possible. When we see water we think fish, so you'll find plenty of it on our menu. Basically, we just like to keep it fresh.

Excellent seafood dinner, beautifully presented, fresh, and cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend their ceviche, clam chowder with clams in their shells, halibut, salmon, and chocolate cake for two.

We came here for a late dinner before viewing the fireworks. Food was fine, but not exceptional, and the somewhat limited menu seemed even more limited to me because I’m celiac and can’t have any gluten. I finally settled on their deconstructed clam chowder, but failed to see the point. I had to shuck the clams, and the other ingredients, served to the side, didn’t have time to soften or integrate with the chowder. The salad was fine, though, and I know my daughter and husband enjoyed their hamburger and fish and chips.

My wife and I have been coming here for 30 years and this by far the best incarnation of this restaurant. We stayed for four nights and ate repeatedly in this restaurant. The food is superb! The staff excellent! Oysters Rockefeller and Ahi poke are fabulous appetizers. The fish (halibut)was perfectly cooked and the three sauce choices (we had all three on the side) were an excellent addition. Vegetables were cooked with care and attention. The hamburger is far beyond normal expectations - delightfully drippy and delicious. They have house made croissants that are so good we had them every morning. The prices are reasonable and the view of the river from the outside deck is unmatched. We will return here often.

We went here for my fiance's birthday and Jonas was our server. He had a wide knowledge in regard to the menu and was attentive and friendly. I ordered the salmon and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Crispy skin and delicious veggies. We were gifted a free birthday dessert and split the chocolate cake with coconut sorbet. We were so pleased with our experience here and will definitely be coming back!

The restaurant was a little difficult for us to find since we're not from Portland and familiar with the surroundings. We were immediately sat at a table shortly after arriving for pur reservation. The appetizer selection is both unique and delicious! Dinner also did not disappoint. Service was excellent from beginning to end. If we're ever in the area again we'll surely stop by King Tide for a meal.

We sat on the patio which was next to the water & a beautiful early evening. I ordered the King Salmon, my son the Halibut, they both were cooked to perfection & delicious! Our guest ordered Ribeye which she had to send back because it was raw but she enjoyed the 3 varieties of Oysters for her appetizer. We have the a pass on service as new owners took over just 2 months ago & they were still working out the bugs. The Manager was very attentive & worked hard to make our experience a pleasurable one. I would go back!

In the past we had tolerated average food for the nice view. Now the food is so delicious that we don't need to make that trade off. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and competent. We all ordered different variations on rock fish and were all very satisfied. The waterfront location is so lovely. I'll be back!

My wife and I have long been fans of Three Degrees and the entire staff. The reformatted restaurant, now King Tide, continues to provide excellent food and service, but at an even higher level. Lauro and his team are presenting wonderful, creative meals, combined with friendly service. We eat out in PDX 100+ evenings each year and find King Tide among the best of our current favorites. Congratulations and thanks.

Food was good, but felt very overpriced. Service was erratic, over attentive too soon, then nowhere to be found, really wasn't in tune with the guests. One entree also took substantially longer than others, compensated for with a dessert. Overall experience was mediocre, for the cost I would go elsewhere.

Great Food. Horrible Service. I hesitated to write a review, yet in the hopes management will read this, I will. The food was well designed, holding unique flavors, and enjoyable combinations of local ingredients. I would go back for the food. I may not go back given how poor the service was. The staff was incredibly friendly. They clearly have not been trained on how to work in the front of the house. It took 15 min to get water, another 10 to take our drink order, and our wine with dinner never arrived. At least three different people would come by the table to talk with us, yet it was pretty clear they weren't clear who was to take orders. A lot of walking by the table to not stopping to complete a simple task like taking an order or bringing drinks. I'd say it is likely poor front of the house management or a serious lack of training. Too bad. Great spot...we ate outside looking out over the river which was lively.

Tried this restaurant for the first time on my birthday. There was no wait and the staff were wonderful. Combine the incredible view with their amazing fresh and local ingredients, and you have a winner! I will definitely be going back and recommending to my friends.

Enjoyed dining outside. Environment was comfortable. The server was excellent. Food was good. Everything was fresh, including the fish. Presentation was excellent. Overall, the food was good, but I’ve had better. Oddly, I’ve never found a restaurant in Portland, OR where I felt the seafood was superb. King Tide Fish & Shell is probably better than most and I will likely eat there again.

Delicious grilled fish, which can be served as your option of a plate, salad, taco. Attentive and friendly service. Easy meter, parking garage or valet parking. Eat inside or out. Great spot on the River.

Nice restaurant and bar right on the waterfront. Sadly, the best part of the meal was the service and the view. Our craft cocktails were very muddled -- my primarily gin drink was brown in color. The food highlight were the oysters which were cold, well-shucked and very fresh tasting. The grilled octopus tartine had very chewy octopus served on top of bland bean puree. To the restaurant's credit, the chef came and talked to us and the item was removed from our bill . The servers and chef were really pleasant. I wish the food was as good as the space deserves.

We had Mother's Day brunch for 6 people. The place wasn't too busy yet but the food took a while to arrive. The food presentation wasn't the best. I had the breakfast burrito and it was dry and little sauce on top. I had to ask them for some salsa which came about 15mins later when I was halfway done. The best aspects of this restaurant was the interior atmosphere and the view of the river.

Unbelievably great experience! We enjoyed the updated decor, and the food was fantastic! We tried the whole Turbot, lobster roll, lobster agnolotti, hamachi crudo, broiled oysters!!! Chef Lauro and his team hit it out of the park! Cocktails were great too!

We sat on the deck overlooking the river. We began the meal with the fried calamari which were served on a bed of a delicious chipotle type sauce, The portion was more than ample, and we would definitely order it again. One of us had the caesar salad, which was beautifully presented, with black brioche croutons which really were a lovely accent on the green leaves of the salad. We each had fish (salmon and halibut) that were served with a red bulgar salad and grilled asparagus. No room for dessert, but we will definitely return again soon.

The locale and the service were great, but the food...just not so much. When a deconstructed clam chowder is the best part of dinner, it can be rough.

We were looking forward to trying the lobster rolls. In my own subjective opinion, a good lobster roll is served on a toasted, slightly crispy roll that delivers a nice crunch. On the night we went, the roll was a soft black brioche. I wasn’t fond of it. The texture resembled cake, or a soft donut. It just wasn’t my cup of tea and left me disappointed.

Took my girlfriend of 3 1/2 years out for her 22nd birthday to this place I've gone only once before and couldn't be more satisfied with the service, wow! The food was excellent, however I gave it only 3 stars because it lacks vegetarian entre options, so it was mac n cheese for me, which was splendid none the less. Great location as well, a must for interested peoples willing to pay that extra buck for outstanding service and a great view.

The restaurant was not very busy, yet our service was terrible. It took forever for the server to ask for orders (including drinks), took about 5 minutes to even get water, and the food took forever. By the time the food got to us it was only lukewarm. Maybe if it would have been brought out right away it would have been better.

Had a wonderful dinner with great view of the christmas ships on the Willamette. Both family with children and adult parties present. Staff was also very helpful when we called lost in Downtown Portland getting there! ( We were coming from Vancouver.) They held our window view table.

Our dinner reservations were for 7:00 for 7 people. We met in the bar first. Happy Hour was very crowded but we found seats, and ordered drink. Our last order of drinks we took to our table. The waiter from the bar brought in our bill. As we were seated in the dinning room we were brought water and bread pretty quick. But...it took a long time for our server to show up. We finally found the manager and just as she was coming over our server showed up. For some reason she thought we had been waited on since there was a bill on our table. Well who did she think waited on us, if she was the waitress for our table??? The food for the most part was good, the chicken was dry. We would go back for Happy Hour.

The service was excellent as was the location. But let's face it; we went to dinner hoping for a great meal. And it was very mediocre (although the bread was warm and fresh). I can't remember the last time I felt compelled to use a salt shaker on the table. But I had to at 3 degrees -- the dinner was that bland. There were three of us. One had the chicken, one the lamb and one the smokey chicken salad. All three had the same experience.

We were going to a Sunday Matinee at the Keller. This is a perfect location to eat prior to the play. Outstanding reasonably-priced breakfast menu selections including breakfast drinks. We had a hard time deciding what to order. We have season tickets to the plays, so we will be back to try other items on the menu.
Enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and the view of the river.

I had the waiter's recommendation of the shirmp pasta. It was very bland, but everything else worked out well for me. Friendly staff and a large table. You also have a great view. I would go again, and definatley order something else.

I took my elderly friend to brunch to celebrate her 72nd birthday. She was delighted - The wait staff couldn't have been nicer. They gave her a birthday card (which they all signed), a blueberry muffin with a candle, moonstruck chocolates, and free champagne.

The food was good, and the view spectacular.

Overall, a very pleasant experience. Will definitely go back.

Great food. Menu selection could be more varied. Location on the river is terrific, and the weather for our dinner hosting visitors from Japan allowed for a walk along the river before and after dinner. A wonderful experience for the visitors to sample local cuisine, a great location and scenic views. Very pleasant valet service, but the specific waiter on this visit was very snobish - even the visitors from Japan commented on his attitude.

The starters, a mixed greens salad and a carrot puree, were interesting and flavorful. The main dishes, braised short ribs and a steak, were another story. The ribs were bland and very fatty. The steak was overcooked by at least two stages, and the horseradish sauce in which it was smothered didn't have enough flavor to justify interfering with the flavor of the steak.
Service was prompt and attentive, but the place was fairly empty on a Monday evening.
Overall, a fairly underwhelming experience.

The restaurant location was great! The food was good as far as the taste and preparation but the prices were a little spendy. It took a long time between ordering or asking for something and when it arrived to the table. For a Saturday night at prime time, the whole restaurant only had about 4 tables including ours. Not sure why since it is a prime location....
They had a nice touch at the end and presented the two "birthday people" at our table with a unexpected little gift bag with some sparkling wine, chocolates and a card.
Overall, it was a good experience because the food was good and the company was great!
