King Street Dispensary
During a painstaking restoration of our historic property, a cache of relic South Carolina Dispensary liquor bottles were unearthed. Now salvaged and proudly displayed, these bottles have inspired a living history surrounded by one of the most extensive selections of LOCAL and CRAFT beer and spirits in Charleston.
To pair with our extensive beverage offerings, we proudly serve a full GASTROPUB style menu. Signature items include delicious Scotch Egg, handmade Bavarian Pretzel & Beer Cheese Fondue, old fashioned double-stacked, bacon-crusted Dispensary Burger, and the best Chicken & Waffles in the South, certain to soak up ANY appetite!
Join the LOCALS for great food, amazing Sunday brunch, nightly live music, and the best patio on King Street!
Don’t go here to eat, drink yes, eat no. The loudness classified earlier was not “energetic” unless you call a bunch of guys screaming at the top of their lungs “WOOOOO” every 10 seconds or so. This is a bar, not a place to dine. The food is more along the lines of bar food. Don’t get me wrong , plenty of people talking at the top of their lungs may be for some , but just not for me.
We like the Dispensary but if you don't want to be surrounded by college age patrons standing next to the bar which is next to your table and don't want to deal with all their noise, go on a weekday.
Used open table to reserve table for 5...walked right in and the table was ready...drinks fast...food great...noise level high (table of 70 year old and older)...we enjoyed the “young music”.
Apps were great and came out quick! Reuben was AMAZING. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our server wasn’t the most personable but did well. We went kind of late for dinner on a Saturday so the bar scene was showing up so it was loud but we had a great time!
Our server was great and our table was ready for us, but they were out of the appetizer AND meal I wanted. Food portions (for what I ordered) were very small, but it was good. Don’t go here if you don’t want to have to yell for your friends to hear you, but DO go here if you love live music.
We came for brunch, but the food was nothing special. The service was not very good. At one point all 3 bar staff were texting on their phones. We had to flag someone down to get a refill on coffees
So good, and this was our second visit within 4 days. Our server was Mackenna, and she was so attentive. We enjoyed the bourbon mules, Bavarian Pretzel, Dispensary burger and fries. Hope to visit Charleston and Dispensary real soon!
The shrimp tacos were phenomenal. However, to advertise as a gastropub and bourbon bar and only have minimal beers on tap and not even mention bourbon on your menu is a joke. Let’s call a spade a spade, this is an average pub
Consistently Good. We stopped in for drinks and a snack. Our server was Katherine, and she was very attentive. We enjoyed the bourbon mules and Short Rib Poutine. We enjoyed our visit so much, we dinner there a few days later. Looking forward to my next trip to Charlestown and King Street Dispensary.
As older residents (over 55) we still enjoyed being in an active, somewhat loud, environment for dinner. The food is value priced and quite delicious! Service was especially attentive and friendly. We will go again before we attend a play at the Woolfe Street Playhouse (1 block away).
Phenomenal. Went here for brunch and got the bananas foster pancakes and breakfast pot pie. Both were great. Can’t wait to come back and try more!!
Fantastic place! Burger is one of the best in the city!
Service was great— our server was super chill and friendly. Food was great. It all came out promptly and was hot, fresh, and delish. Tried some local beer and enjoyed it. Laid back atmosphere and a nice outdoor patio. Would totally come back.
Great girls night out! Loved the bar.
Great service! Our waiter/bartender was awesome! We were definitely the oldest people in the bar that night, but felt extremely welcome.
We found this place online. While we love places that have a lot of action going on, this one was a little over the top. We sat out on the patio but people we standing about 5 deep at the bar and constantly surrounding our table. It appeared to be the case inside as well. The crowd is mainly 20-30 year olds. Conversation between each other was almost impossible due to the noise level. The drinks were okay as well as the food. But would say this place is more of a young bar scene.
We went to King Street Dispensary three times during our four day stay in Charleston. Twice in the evening. The live music was fantastic! Great, fun atmosphere. On our last day, we had brunch outside. It was sooooo good! I cannot believe there wasn't a line out the door. The breakfast pot pie was creative and delicious. Great after a night out :) The banana bread waffle was delicious and unique. Hamburgers were awesome also. Oh - and the poutine! Amazing! Great staff! We will definitely be coming back on our next visit.
Can’t say enough about the friendly staff. Great brunch & fun live music! Made my daughters bday that much more special
We went for brunch on Sunday. It got real busy real quick. We were happily surprised our meals were very good. Service got slow for a bit due to the rush of people. It's not real fancy, but we will be back. Enjoyed the music too. Friendly place.
Weird vibe. Walk in to no hostess. Had a reservation but sat the bar instead. What appeared to be the bar manager took great care of us. Great convo, turned our Sunday football game channel and overall good guy. Short rib hash and the breakfast pot pie were very tasty. The Irish Breakfast shot was also yummy. As the visit went on, they catered to locals. Not a bad thing in general. Just an observation. Beer selection was also locally focused which we enjoyed a lot.
Great food, awesome staff, fun music vibe. Will definitely be back.
We went there for a specific menu item on their online website. It was not available as the menu had changed and the website had not been updated.
Also we were seated at a table right outside the restrooms. Not a great place for a table
We came for Sunday brunch and the food was fantastic. We had two families with 6 small kids and the outdoor table we sat at was perfect. Service was also fast and they brought the kids’ food at first which we appreciated. The live music inside sounded great too. They also have great apps.
Amazing food! Fantastic bartenders!
We had a great brunch at KSD! It was our first time visiting here and were in town for a bachelorette party. The group rated our meal at KSD the best meal on the trip. We highly recommend the froze, sticky bread, and the breakfast pot pie.
One of our favorite items was the live music that day by Matt King. He was wonderful and it set the mood for a great brunch! Still trying to find him on instagram to enjoy his soulful voice....
First time trying KSD. Went for Sunday brunch because the menu looked interesting and it had good reviews. 11:15 reservations. Didn’t even think about the fact that this is also a bar with multiple TV’s and it was World Cup finals. They were slammed. Manager was very apologetic and the food really was good; it was our fault for not thinking about what was going on in sports. We will definitely try it again, but I will check the TV listings first!
We enjoyed our meal there. We would definitely recommend it and go back.
Unfortunately my colleagues steak frites dish was sour smelling. Was sent back and fixed. Rest of meal was good!
The renovated building offers a clean attractive atmosphere. Comfortable booths and a really neat outdoor seating area!
Staff was friendly and attentive.
Beer and cocktails were excellent and brunch was fantastic!
I would definitely recommend stopping in for a late night beer or for a great brunch.
Great spot for some upscale pub food with a solid drink menu. Bartenders can craft you a great cocktail.
Great food in a relaxed ambiance
We went here our last night in Charleston with our 6 month old. We shared the wings, scotch egg, and the burger. My husband said it was his favorite meal. We both had an a cocktail and put bill was around $40.
There was only one waitress at 7:00 at night! We waited forever for drinks. My beer glass had a chip in it as well. Understaffed and poor bar and table service. If you want to grab a beer it's ok but I can't recommend to eat there. We ended up finding another restaurant to eat....
There was no hostess to greet us when we walked in and eventually one of the bartenders noticed us standing there looking stupid and asked us if we needed a table, he then motions to get the attention of the group of waitresses standing around at the end of the bar that we were there for our reservation. 1 of the waitresses grabs a menu then proceeds to walk behind us never says hello, never indicates that she is seating us,and we turn around and she then says "there's just 2 of you all right?" This appears to be an establishment that employs young adults AKA college students so keep your expectations regarding service and drinks low. The food was a little under seasoned but did arrive in an appropriate amount of time. The best thing I had that night was the pretzel and beer cheese.
Draws a young crowd. Small menu, but delicious food. Local alcohol choices were impressive.
Be concerned about the history of this place no more. They have done an outstanding job, great bar, great patio, food was awesome, great beer list and service was great as well. A definite if your searching to try a new spot.
Great food, but it’s mostly a bar. Ordered a bottle of wine and it took 20 minutes to get it. That’s too long.
Really enjoyed our experience. One of my friends was concerned when he looked at the menu online that there might not be enough options for his other friends, but we all agreed afterward that this was a perfect example of doing a few things well rather than many things mediocre. The staff was friendly and very accommodating of our group. The outdoor patio was lively. Would definitely recommend.
Food was excellent, great vibe! Live music too. Upper King’s best new LOCAL bar and grill hands down...
This place has a great vibe! Gorgeous patio! The bacon crusted burger and southern chicken and waffles were delicious! The house-made pretzels with beer cheese were excellent. The server told us there was a live music every night at 10 pm. We stayed for cocktails after dinner to check it out. Awesome band and beer selection! Favorite new addition to Upper King Street.
