King & Rye is the reflection of Executive Chef Peter McCall’s four-generation culinary heritage and the bounty of the mid-Atlantic and Southern regions. We feature seasonal, intentional ingredients sourced through real relationships with farmers, makers and butchers. With humble, refined menus rooted in tradition and authentic flavors that go beyond the expected to offer a deeper exploration of Southern cuisine, we're a place where you can expect slow food, proper whiskeys and genuine hospitality.

Our menus are personal -- expect to find dishes featuring produce hand-selected from the Old Town Farmer's Market, and even Chef's great-grandmother's cornbread recipe. We also feature a hand-selected, carefully curated whiskey and bourbon list with notable selections intended to expand horizons. Chosen by General Manager and Executive Bourbon Steward Allison Strunk, our list includes a rotating selection of creative finds.

First, I’m not sure why they accepted a 1:30 reservation when the kitchen closes at 2pm. We arrived at 1:35 (no one has at the hostess desk) was set at a table outside (only reservation available on opentable) at 1:40. It was a beautiful day- no complaints. The server came over at 1:45 and told us the kitchen closes at 2. We felt rushed to order. I asked about the infamous cinnamon rolls-they had sold out. I next set to order the burger. Asked for it medium and was told they only cook it well done ‘but it is juicy’. Decided to pass-I like my burger medium and with the kitchen closing in less than 10 minutes I wouldn’t be able to send it back if I didn’t like it. So, I ordered the shrimp and grits. It was ok. The grits were creamy, the shrimps and bacon pieces were good but I was not a fan of the sauce it was tangy. The side of potatoes were the best!!! They was crispy and dunk-able in ketchup. The deviled eggs - were ok. A little salty for my taste. I tried the apple cider cocktail - different but not bad. Service was good we didn’t feel rushed. True to their word, they closed at 2pm. By 245 it was lights out inside the restaurant.

Despite being a long term resident, have not visited since renaming from Jackson 20, and not typically a hotel restaurant patron, but chef and menu beckoned. Glad to have tourists back spending in city, but hard finishes make space noisy even with tables still spaced for COVID. Country ham biscuit is good and substantial; heirloom tomato toast outstanding; trout with succotash excellent, although succotash unlike any in growing up in Carolinas. Enjoyed the banana pudding although its a definite carb add. Wine list is minimal unfortunately, but nice beer list. Look forward to returning as restrictions minimized/eliminated with enhanced/expanded menu.

King and Rye was really lovely for brunch. The food was delicious, the staff were attentive, and the atmosphere was really comfortable. The location, of course, is really a gem as it sits in such a pretty part of Old Town. Will definitely be back!

Fantastic food and cocktails. I’m usually hesitant about places that have only one vegetarian entree (summer vegetable paella), but it was so wonderful that I will happily return and eat it again soon. We filled up on that, a couple appetizers, and a dessert. Our server was friendly, attentive, and gave excellent recommendations.

Tbh, I didn’t have high hopes for this place, because it’s the reincarnation of Jackson 22, which fell short of amazing. I went for brunch, ordered the cinnamon roll, pancakes, bacon, and the white sangria.

Cinnamon roll: Overcooked and not enough frosting. The frosting was tasty, though.
Pancakes: Delicious all by themselves, and I wished that the syrup was served on the side. It was too much syrup on the plate. They were served with about 6 little stewed apple chunks, the size of dog kibble, which was disappointing. There was a dollup of cream on top, which was tasty. Overall, just swamped in too much liquid.
Bacon: Very thick butcher cut, 2 slices approx 4in long, and overcooked. Bacon that thick shouldn’t be crunchy, IMO. Overpriced.
Sangria: Light and refreshing, though I would have liked a little more basil flavor.
I won’t return.

Definitely recommend the cinnamon roll. We got two to share for the table. Chicken and biscuits with cream gravy was good too. Our server brought some of the house hot sauce and it was the perfect match!

The food was delicious! The waiting staff was wonderful. Our only issue was the hostess. She came off very rude, and impatient when we checked in for our reservation. But our waitress was just so sweet, and very patient especially since we had our baby girl with us. Would definitely recommend this place for a delicious brunch.

I made the reservation for 4 initially, outdoor seating, weeks in advance. Then I tried to change my reservation to 6 but couldn’t, it was fully booked because it was for Father’s Day. So I called the week of to see if they could change it to 6 and they were very accommodating. The server was very attentive and the food was excellent. We would love to come back and try their dinner menu.

We were seated in a beautiful inner courtyard with great light, umbrellas and comfortable chairs. My friend and I shared an appetizer, each ordered a drink, and something from the brunch menu. I requested scrambled eggs with any white cheese. The kitchen did not have any - cheddar only. I preferred whole wheat toast and received a multigrain toast instead, one slice uncut and unbuttered. The bacon was thick, fatty and poorly cooked. Our Cinnabon appetizer was good, a reasonable treat. My sangria was good. Two of the drinks advertised on their online menu (watermelon crush and Irish coffee) were nit available.

This was my second time giving The Alexandrian’s restaurant a try. This time the service improved from terrible to decent. The hostess was pleasant, accommodating and made a great first impression. Our server did not introduce himself and was the only person assigned to the lounge. He could have used help. The first plates we received for our shared appetizer were dirty - specks of hardened food still on them. Due to the just okay service, lack of resources in the kitchen, and unappetizing food, I do not recommend this restaurant. There are far better options within a few blocks. It’s too bad because the courtyard is a very pleasant backdrop, but it cannot make up for the kitchen and quality of service.

We have been meaning to have dinner there for quite a while since we heard good reviews. There’s a lot of very healthy competition in the area, and that makes it even more important to give a thorough review. The food was very good but not memorable. The service was friendly and wfficient but with all the noise and his wearing a mask, was often difficult to hear him. The atmosphere is pleasant but really needs to have some soundproofing since it was very noisy at dinner even thouggt we were seated on the side. We have eaten at a vast majority of the restaurants in Okd Town and while this wasn’t a disappointing experience, there are better options. One good thjng isnthat there is an outdoor cocktail area that looks lovely in the back area so that is a special feature in which we did not partake.

This place is definitely going to stay on my brunch radar. Met my son here for brunch on a Sunday. The service was good and the food was excellent. Not a lot of choices but the choices they do have offer something for everyone from vegan to meat lovers. Great coffee too. My only complaint is that whoever makes the peach bellinis at the bar, needs a lesson in bellini making.
