Food was overpriced, scrambled eggs tasted like powdered eggs not real eggs (despite breakfast being $20). Disappointed in brunch drink selections after the whiskey aspect of the restaurant being heavily advertised. Drink I did order they were out if even though it was only 11AM. Food was okay but certainly nothing I’d come back for. Usually I am not this critical, but it was Mother’s Day and I was so looking forward to this brunch and I left feeling very disappointed in my choice to come here. The hotel itself seemed nice but sadly this restaurant was not a winner to me.

The shrimp and grits, risotto, and short ribs were quite good. The service was excellent. Unfortunately, all four biscuits in the “side” that we ordered for the table were burned and dry and the amount of apple butter and butter were inadequate. I am sure they would have provided more had we asked, however, I prefer to experience the food as planned and presented by the chef. This item was disappointing overall, and in particular in a restaurant with a southern bend. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The bar area had a sports bar vibe, with a very loud crowd watching a hockey game. We would try them again, however, avoid the biscuits, and check the hours for the specific day you are dining here. We had a 7 pm reservation, and shortly after 8 pm our wait person gave us a last call because they were “closing soon.” We live in the neighborhood, so we probably would have chosen a different day to try them had we known this.

Excellent brunch. We read all the reviews of best brunch in Old Town Alexandria and this one was always at the top or near top. Because it was near where we were staying, we opted to go here. The reviews are on point. Highly recommend!

King & Rye continues to be one of the best restaurants in Old Town. They literally have the best burger in town…hands down! Three out of our five people ordered the burger…add in some fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs with dilly beans…finish it off with a serious whiskey cocktail. Cheers!!

The food is amazing and good portions. The drinks were really good in a great atmosphere. The reason for the 4 is the multiple issues in getting our order right and the length of time for drinks considering the small crowd.

I was given dirty silverware, and when my server spilled my water, I had to clean it up with my own non-absorbent napkin, and I was not given a new napkin, so it just sat there on the table in the water puddle the entire meal. There was dirty food literally still attached to the underside of my spoon when they gave it to me. I was so embarrassed, I don't think I can bring guests here again. The cinnamon roll was ok and red velvet pancakes yummy, but I had to request syrup for my pancakes and the side potatoes were way too many that no one could finish it. So wasteful.

Walking in we were greeted but it was some what noisy so we had to talk loud. We went straight to a table and our server was nice and knowledgeable of everything on the menu and the history of the restaurant. It did not take long to get everything we ordered. I order the fish dinner with blue cheese mashed potatoes, fried okra and asparagus stalks. The fish has good flavor but the flavor was only in the middle of the fish and not in every bite. The asparagus was a little too hard for my liking; felt like I was chewing on frozen tootsie rolls. The okra and mashed potatoes were PERFECT 🤩. Got the cornbread as an appetizer and I loved it too. Don’t remember exactly what my wife had but I know she had kale that came with it and I liked the kale but she didn’t. Overall I think the meal could’ve been a little bit better but the local ale our server suggested and the drink my wife had were very good and complemented our meals well. I felt their could’ve been some soft music playing in the background instead of all the excessive noise. I felt the lighting was a little too low. Would’ve been nice to have it just a tad brighter in the restaurant but that’s just my personal preference. Overall I would suggest the restaurant because they have great customer service and I feel their drink selection is pretty good. And one positive I can definitely say is that you can tell that their food is as fresh as fresh can get. Like the fish may’ve not had strong flavor throughout every bite but it was definitely fresh. Every plate that went but us to other customers whatever they had it had a great fresh aroma just as our dishes as well.

Dinner for 4 on a quiet Thursday night in April. We were staying at the hotel (The Alexandrian) so thought we'd try on the on-sight offering. The dining room is well appointed, looks great from the street. The food (southern) was tasty enough and well prepared/timed and the service was on par for a formal sit-down meal. I was underwhelmed by the food and drinks overall, but I'd still say it was a nice meal at a reasonable price.

Came on the morning of Easter Sunday and was pleasantly surprised with our visit. Food was amazing and we have excellent service! We ordered the Deviled Eggs and the Cast Iron Cinnamon Roll to start. The deviled eggs were tasty and the Cinnamon Roll, TO DIE FOR! Baked to perfection! For our mains, we had the Crab Cake Benedict and the Creamed Chicken and Biscuits. I’m pretty picky when it comes to crab cakes but these were definitely on point. As for the Chicken Chicken it was good as well but not the most amazing dish that morning. Overall, 9/10! Looking forward to our next visit!

We arrived at 1:24 for our 1:25 reservation. We were told that they had attempted to contact us via text to confirm we were coming. I did not realize that, we were traveling in the car stick in traffic looking for parking. The vibe we got was they weren’t sure whether they could still serve us. We were left at the front while the manager was being consulted. We felt like we were imposing by being late and then being told we were unresponsive (by mere minutes because of traffic) so decided to eat elsewhere. It was uncomfortable.

Ordered the VA breakfast. Seemed right but the eggs were just okay and the bacon was too much. I’m sure it’s delicious if you like thick cut, greasy, and all fat. More like a pork chop. Red potatoes were perfect! The ambiance was bleh. Screaming/laughing kid that no one seemed to appreciate other than the parents. I’d like to try this place in a non brunch environment.

The website definitely oversells this place. It was decent. A bit cold from the doors to the terrace being opened consistently which didn’t allow me to ever warm up inside. The food was okay, I had the shrimp and grits and my partner had the short ribs. It was an experience to experience, but not a place I would visit twice.

The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing. The tables are spread nicely so you don’t hear conversations from other tables. And, the food was amazing! Went with friends on Thursday for restaurant week. You get to choose either an app or dessert and a main. For apps we got the deviled eggs(4) and cornbread. The were good sized portions. For our mains we shared the cheeseburger, strip loin, and short ribs. All were delicious, but the short ribs were our favorite. We ended the meal sharing the chocolate peanut butter bacon bar. It was perfect to share between the 3 of us. Our server was great. He checked on us periodically, but wasn’t overwhelming. Highly recommend King & Rye! We will DEFINITELY be returning!

Worst eggs Benedict I’ve ever had. Absolutely no taste. I should have been warned because it took literally 90 seconds for the food to come to my table after I ordered it. Meanwhile the cinnamon bun was quite pedestrian. Fruit cup was good however coffee was good and they gave my wife a free piece of cheesecake for her birthday. Still….

I decided to try this place for restaurant week. It was nice, however the pricing didn’t make any sense. The restaurant week price for a starter and main (deviled eggs and burger) was $35, however, if I just purchased these two items off the normal menu, it would have been cheaper ($25). It seems a little odd that they charge people more money during restaurant week for the same items.

Everything was good, -very nice service , very good coffee (soy milk latte) just that the bacon did not taste very good. I have had the bacon there before so I know it is uniquely thick, almost like pork belly. However last few times I’ve ordered it - it was still very tasty and a bit crunchy. This time the bacon had no flavor and was mushy. My daughter, who loves bacon and will usually eat any variety of it- wouldn’t eat this one. Just an fyi! Otherwise very nice brunch.
